I thought about posting in the tech place, but hear me out.
While setting up my roommate's and my wireless router today it asked what I wanted to name it. Now at first I thought whatever just leave it default Linksys. I than thought about how I think it's so stupid when I see like 3 Netgears and 2 Linksys wireless networks available and how no one ever names their wireless network with any personality. So I decided to name it Billand****ExcellentAdventures. So the whole point of this thread is just wondering what are some neat names you've seen or possibly come up with for yourself on a wireless network and were they secured or unsecured connections?

"This Is Not the Network You Are Looking For"
I only just thought of this, so now I need to establish a network just so I can use it.
Is the forum really censoring "Ted's"?
-
he is probably replacing his own name with ***
-
MINE IS FLANCREST ENTERPRISES
-
At my old dormitory, there was one that was called "Fuck You, Clearwire."
-
Right now I am picking up a network called "Bigfoot's Party Line." There is also "Right Here" and once upon a time my network was called "We Live Together" but that went to shit when the network crashed and we had to reset everything.
Eed's connection this summer was called "Pool House" as I imagine it still is.
-
One of my neighbours has TheObjectOrientedNetwork.
If I go to a window at the back of my house facing the hospital, I am sometimes offered 22 access points!
-
When I lived with Lunchy it was named Lunchynet.
Now it is Squiddynet.
-
I don't name my network, I do however name all my hard drives and memory sticks. I like to name them all according to a theme.
-
My iPod is named Starbuck and my hard disk is named Adama. >.>
-
Our house wireless is called "Dude Ranch", because that is also what we call the house. We are all dudes.
My hard drive is called "Ground Control", my portable HDD is called "Major Tom", my thumbdrive is "Protein Pill" (it is even pill shaped!), and my partition at work is "Tin Can".
-
Our network here is "blegs". est asked me what to call the network and I gave him a nonsense word so it stuck.
All my electronics that I name seem to coincidentally (at least at first) have three syllables. My old ipod was Ayame, new one is Oliver; my usb stick is Ulysses (Ulysses S Brant (USB)) and my laptop (now external HDD) was/is Avery. The laptop I am using now is Bob, but I didn't name him so it's not my fault he doesn't fit.
-
External hard drive: Mars
Laptop: Saturn
Desktop: Jupiter
iPod: Mercury
Memory Stick: Pluto
I was in a flat where the network was called 'turn my swag on'.
-
As I've said here numerous times in the past, I name all of my computers and assorted technology with nautical and/or piratical names, usually related to the function or apperance of the technology in question.
So my main laptop, a black Asus, is called Black Pete, Scourge of the Ocean Deep. My Asus Eee, being a small and subsidiary creature, I decided to name as if it was a ship's cat; unfortunately the machine's programming wouldn't allow me to give it a long and complicated name so I just called it Smokey, in homage to the fate of an earlier computer and because it's a stereotypical cat name. My mobile phone, being a device primarily concerned with talking, is called Boozy Jack - because he'd be the old drunken sailor in the corner of the pub who'd never stop telling you seafaring stories if you got him started. My new iPod, a 120 GB number with a silvery metallic finish, is called Cap'n Bill "Bags o' Silver" O'Flaherty.
Anyway, to get to the matter at hand, I decided to name my internet connections as if they were pirate ships. My original ADSL internet connection was called the Roaring Forty (I thought that would be a good name for a fast ship). The back-up dial-up connection was called the Scurvy Dog (you'd only use it as a last resort and you'd want to stop using it as soon as possible). When I set up a wireless connection I toyed with the idea of calling it the Comely Lass, but fearing that my housemates and neighbours wouldn't get the joke I settled for the safer and more prosaic Station Street (that being the name of the street in which I live).
-
Our wireless here is "I'M A SHARK!!!!"
Last place I lived it was Mariusz Pudzianowski
-
I name everything Furz (German for fart).
-
Some pretty neat names there.. Inlander I have a black Asus laptop as well... Never thought of naming computers all under a naming convention/theme type like that. Pretty awesome. I may have to come up with something!

Avery is arguably two syllables.
My computer's name is Computey.
-
My wireless network's name is "duglis" but this thread is making want to give it a goofier name. Although that name is already kinda goofy if you know the backstory (it's kind of an inside joke between myself and my fiancee.) I've never given names to my memory sticks or external harddrives other than naming my backup drives the date that I last made a backup, but my iphone is named "jphone"
I just checked my Airport and noticed one of the other networks I'm picking up is "Mr. Internet Goes to Washington"
-
My home wireless is still called 'pooh' because my sister set it up and at the time she was naming all her computer stuff after characters from Winnie the Pooh.
I name my computers after whatever I am listening to at the time. The machine I'm on now is secrethouse after a Buck 65 album, my laptop is portions after a Rilo Kiley song, my old laptop was substance after a New Order best of.
-
There's one in Jon's building named "Barack Lee". I always found that to be a nice pun.
-
My iPod is named Fisticuffs MacMurphreesboroughs, because it was the name of my first (and only) DDO character, which amused me to no end (he was a monk, duh). We are currently stealing internet at our apt, but we're going to probably be getting our own soon, so we'll have to come up with a fun name for it, too, I suppose... hmmm...
-
I haven't named my computer because I am worried I will end up hating that name.
-
My desktop is named Skanky Little Whore, my laptop is named Capitalist Pig Dog, and my wireless router is named The Suicide Plasmid (This was supposed to just be a joke when I set it up since my roommate and I are both microbiologists, but then I forgot about it and am now too lazy to change it).
-
My iPod is called Paspartout. My girlfriend's iPod is called Friday.
-
My PSP is called FUKKENPSP, my phone is badass, my old computer is EATS BRAINS, and my current computer is FURIOUSDICKINGS. I named an external hard drive of a teacher friend 8===D
-
My wireless network, in the midst of a plethora of person names, is called "The Shire".
-
Oh. Yeah. My iPod is named "Nemanja". After the vicious Serb.
-
My macbook's hard drive is Gimlorian and my USB drive's is CATS.
Is there a way to firewall a wifi router or at least a network so that it only allows you to access things that are metal? Because then I would name it GRIM AND FROSTBITTEN MJØLNIR. The password would have three ¨'s.
-
My computer's name is "Mighty Monster," because I got pretty much the biggest case I could find within my budget, since I don't like working in cramped spaces. My wireless internet back when I had roommates who wanted that sort of thing (I just go wired all the time) was "Alpha," because we lived in apartment A.
-
...she is a totally sweet-ass Alan Moore & J. H. Williams III character, and is obviously the female name equivalent of Prometheus...
FYP, Williams seriously put just about as much into that character/book as Moore did, if not more.
-
My network is just called "Mine. As in "Not Yours"." and has a WPA2 64 character passkey.
It is a little overkill perhaps.
-
My best friend's named his wireless "CAN I HAS INTERWEBS PLZ" And in my apartment building someone named their's "three cats"
-
My iPod is named Starbuck and my hard disk is named Adama. >.>
This.
I do not have a router here at school, but I name everything else. Can you guess the theme??
Laptop: Fenris
External: Yggdrassil
iPod: Asgard (home of the Gods, duh)
Tablet: Fjalar
-
My Ipod is called Babe. My computer Old Faithful.
-
My network name is boring (Sauron), but my other stuff is more fun:
My desktop at home is called "lion",
my desktop at school is called "tiger".
^just big aminals, gonna continue this trend when i buy new towers in the future
my EeePC is named "door".
^cause I was reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman at the time, and this was the first Linux computer that I owned as my own. (she is my Door into Linux? Altho I'd had a Linux tower shared with my Dad before I got door.)
my Windows laptop is named "nuno" (I don't use this one except for when I have to do CAD or Aspen or some other shit work where my school generally says we need a Windows comp to work with)
^from the Philippine mythology dwarf thing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuno), cause I don't like Windows
my first external harddrive was named ENDER, my second BEAN, my third PETRA
^the Ender's Game series, gonna continue with the rest of his jeesh, and then maybe his family.
my flash drives have the names: JOHNNY, SQUEE, and DEVI
^Johnny the Homicidal Maniac characters. Don't really know where to go from here, esp cause JOHNNY's dying and I need a replacement for him, but I don't think there are too many more JTHM characters who mattered enough for a name...
Oh, and ever since I got my first calculator I've been naming them HAL.
my TI-89 is HAL-V, my TI-83 is HAL-IV, and my non-graphing calc is HAL-III (HAL-II and the original HAL died in 8th and 5th grade respectively, they were also just scientific calculators. the original HAL was Reverse Polish Notation because my Dad swears by RPN and wanted me to have a likewise mindset)
my iPod is also HAL, no number for some reason.
-
Isaiah you are the biggest nerd.
-
heh, I guess. I got Gaiman, Ender's Game, JTHM, Linux, and 2001 surrounding me at mostly every second.
I like having a lot of computers that are all interconnected and junk, it makes me feel powerful.
Believe it or not, I would say that one of my roommates was actually a bigger nerd than me...
-
My computer is named Ozymandias
My old laptop is Oldzymandias
My iPod is Podzymandias
My external HDDs are Portzymandias 1 & 2
My thumbdrive is Dongzymandias
I SORT OF HAVE A THEME HERE.
-
My desktop is rory-pc, my old laptop is rory-arch (only because it uses arch linux) and my iPod is rory's ipod. Our wireless network is just called BTHOMEHUB-BB48. The neighbour's one is Belkin+ and there is a LinkysysHome across the street. Are we all incredibly unimaginative?
I think something's wrong here, I feel weird for not naming my gadgets.
-
At my last company, the theme I had was that there should be no discernible theme shared by the new name and all names already in use. By thirty machines it had got quite hard to maintain.
-
My first ipod was Thomas (like the tank engine), my current one is Henry.
My calculator is Chartreuse (fun to say), my thumb drive is Violet (one of my favorite girls' names, also it's purple), my cell is Cafe au lait (my five year old cousin named it the most sophisticated thing she could think of...)
-
I only just started naming things.
My red ipod is called Ruby.
My white thumb drive is called Snowy.
And for variation, my black laptop is called Little Black Sambo.
-
All the computers on my dad's network are named after dogs. Some of them are a bit obscure, like Sally (Spot the dog's mother, a bigger version of Spot the tiny laptop) and George (our first dog). My brother's desktop is, unimaginatively, Woof.
-
my iPod is called "blimey!"
i have no idea why
-
I have an old Cisco AP set up in my garage that goes nowhere. I should make it redirect to an old laptop running off a CompactFlash card, so I can automatically Rickroll people trying to leech bandwidth.
-

Oh God. At work most of the computers have people's names. Mine does not. It is called buenapark.
-
my old wireless was "bitchface", this computer i'm using now, which is now almost six years old, is penelope anemone (because those words are fun to say), my ipod is earl (technically only when the ipod is in his case (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/BrittanyMarie/iPod.jpg)), my last car was bonny, now i have bonny deux.
and it's not technology, but my leg tattoo is harold.
-
Most of my stuff is named along the lines of "DEATHBOT 3000" and so on. I just like to make things easier for the day when the machines inevitably turn against us.
(ps omg computer brain (http://seedmagazine.com/content/print/out_of_the_blue/))
edit:
Capybara pagebreak!
Now with extra anaconda.
-
and it's not technology, but my leg tattoo is harold.
Intentional Fallout 3 reference?
-
There's a Harold in Fallout 3? Man, he's also in the good Fallouts.
-
Yeah he's a tree thing.
-
A tree thing? He was a mutant in the first two.
-
He's a mutant tree that grew on a man's head.
-
No, no. Harold is the mutant on which a tree grew. Apparently the tree continued growing, thus overwhelming him. Fallout wiki (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Harold).
Oh, it should be noted that my iPod is called "Ricardo's iPod." Inventive? Imaginative? Creative? I thought so.
-
I've never played Fallout, so no. He just looks like a Harold.
-
No, no. Harold is the mutant on which a tree grew. Apparently the tree continued growing, thus overwhelming him. Fallout wiki (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Harold).
Sorry I didn't check my facts you nerd
-
There's a Fallout expansion pack set in Pittsburgh largely because of some of my college friends who work at Bethesda Softworks. hee
