I want a sort of reference thread where we talk about cool things in places we've been! Places to go, things to see, events that happen. Go!
Right now I am watching House Hunters at my parents', and they are in Sweden. Stockholm looks really kitschy. Is it? It looks like lots of... the sort of quaint not really gingerbread house-y but simpler architecture, especially against the painfully bright blue sky. Tell me about Stockholm please!

I'm um, in Toronto, not meeting any of you neat people because you don't know who I am, unfortunately. Maybe next time.
I've been to Italy though, for 3 weeks when I was 18, as part of a sort of heritage trip for the children of immigrants from Friuli. That was awesome. Also I got to meet all my relatives there for the first time really, and we went to Venice and a bunch of other cities, and the lovely beaches (one time one of my cousins and I went out and the beach and caught a whole bunch of some sort of shellfish). oh and also it was funny how they allow anyone at all there to drink at bars, it seemed like

Katie, Stockholm is a very beautiful city. Inland you've got all the beautiful old architecture you'd expect of a former European imperial power, by the water you've got masses of islands and bridges and the lovely velvet-blue of the Baltic. Beyond the city you've got literally thousands of tiny islands which form the Stockholm archipelago - if you get the chance, fly into another city nearby and catch the ferry into Stockholm. Being a city in Sweden, Stockholm's very clean and well-maintained and everyone's friendly and speaks fluent English. Well, obviously not everyone, but near enough as it makes no difference. There's some rather ugly modern architecture in the centre of the city (around the train station) and in the outer suburbs, but you can easily avoid those.

Like Inlander said, lots of awesome architecture. The one thing I didn't like was that it was so damn hot everywhere we went.

Hmmm, Stockholm...
The isles are indeed gorgeous, if/when you get there, make sure you rent a canoo for a day-ish, and just paddle about (though, not offshore, but inbetween the islands the water is calm enough :))
Apart from that, i dont really remember much, i was like, 14ish when i was last in sverge :)

Nice list, I've been doing a lot of traveling this year too. In fact, literally just a minute ago I booked ski lodgings in Park City, Utah for this New Years.
In the past year I've taken trips to Crested Butte, CO for skiing, Glacier National Park in Montana, and DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival. I think my favorite trip this year was London, but the most fascinating trip was Bilbao (and San Sebastian, another town near there) on the northern tip of Spain.

Places I've been to, in order of importance:
- Alger, WA: totally badass middle-of-nowhere, foresty, non-community made up of hippies and hillbillies; and even the occasional hippy-billy.
- ???, Idaho: IT'S PRETTY DRY
-Tempe, Arizona: Good skateparks, bad people. ALSO DRY.
-New York, NY: HOLY SHIT LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT BUILDING. Too many people. The Met is a cool thing.
I uh don't get out much.

Go to Stirling and wander around some before you have to leave the UK. It's pretty.

Three trips so far this year:
Wyoming, Nebraska, and Kansas - family reunions and a funeral.
New York City - did all of the tourist things, Empire State Building, downtown bus tour, West village, Chinatown
saw a bunch of plays, and ate extremely well at various little hole-in-the-wall restaurants (Indian, Afghan, Irish) as well as some regular establishments
- vacation with our children
Albuquerque: ate well, saw the petroglyphs, downtown, old town, and generally had a blast - meet up with wife's college roommate, had not seen her for years
All in all, a very fun time.

Amsterdam is a lot of fun even if you dont smoke pot or do any drugs for that matter. I suggest going at the end of April as it is the Queens Birthday and they have a huge party. England is fun as well but expensive if your American(exchange rates suck).

Hey, I've been to some places.
So far this year I've been to Chicago, Portland, Denver (so disappointing), and Ft. Collins (hi John). I'm not nearly as exciting a traveler as I used to be.
In my not so distant past I've been all over Japan of course, Okinawa a couple of times, The Philippines a couple of times - mostly to the outer islands but a few days in Manila, Seoul, Beijing, Bangkok, Chiang Mai.... I really need to do more international travel. I'm pretty much over America.
I want to go to Europe next. Asia is nice and all, and I definitely want to go back to at least Japan and show Jason all of the fun stuff that I'm still not over, but that doesn't get me closer to my goal of seeing everything ever.

I've lived in Burundi, Nicaragua and Guatemala, all though for those three I was probably too young to give any valid feedback about the situation.
I remember Guatemala and Nicaragua to be beautiful and warm though. Also, very thick leaved grass.
Places I do remember living in:
South Africa is a beautiful tourist destination. There is a shit load to do, but it takes hours drives in between places. The garden route is highly recommended. NY is awesome. Go during the summer though. Lots of free stuff that happens that is really cool. Edinburgh - come during the month of August for the Fringe Festival and decent weather. It's a beautiful city either way. Gent - come during the month of July for the Gentse Feesten, which is like the Fringe Festival only drunker and better and bigger, and with a lot less foreigners. Also, they cut out the pretense about it being a festival for the arts. It's a beautiful city either way.
This year I travelled to Costa Rica which is absolutely breathtaking. Highly recommended, especially the south east coast with the Caribbean. Beautiful. Also, lots of pot.

The two places I most want to visit are the Andes and the Himalayas, for the local cultures and also mountains.
My favourite places I've visited (and the only, really), are Chamonix for the absolutely amazing views (there's nothing like having lunch in the snow at 3000 metres, looking out over the valley). A bit touristy and crowded, but the scenery and skiing make up for it.
London! I'm in love with it, it's like another world. Not only is it impressively huge with old, giant stone buildings and more modern architecture, it's full of so many different people from all over the world. Also has the best pubs and Camden Market.
The highlands! Clearly I have a thing for mountain ranges, but I think my favourite has to be in the highlands. They have a strange ability to be barren, lonely, eerie, and epic, but to feel like home at the same time. I went in easter, when it was still snowing but still possible to climb the mountains and ski, and although it's popular with tourists and people doing outdoor sports, it's still very easy to enjoy whole valleys, lakes, coastlines, etc on your own.

Been to the blue, lived in the red (I've also spent time in Hawaii, but it's hard to screenshot that; in the UK, Switzerland, and Belgium I've only been through airports).
In the coming year, I'd like to go to Oxford to visit my friend who's studying there, Florida to meet my boyfriend's grandparents, and Texas because I'm submitting a proposal to a conference there and would love to be accepted.

Guys, I don't really do Facebook Apps. Which one is this?
I think I have been to... uh... 8 countries? I think I counted all the islands in the Caribbean. (It will be 10 in May.) My favourite so far is Scotland, although the French Riviera and the Loire River Valley are nice. Dan is right about the strangeness of the haunting landscape: I have never felt so at home anywhere else. Inverness is probably one of the loveliest places I have ever been, and there is even a Loch Ness Monster museum! (The Urquhart Castle ruins are really worth wandering around in, too.)

From what I've heard of many friends and family members who have travel around Europe, Stockholm is one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe...From what I've seen so far so far I would agree with them.Mostly because the city is quite peaceful and clean. and most of the people speak good english so it's really confortable [I can speak Swedish though... but it was useful when some friends visited me]. I've been there 4 times and it's always very nice.

Here are some of the places my 19-year-old self has been so recently I could say things about them.
- Spain: south (round fuengirola), Barcelona
- Denmark, Sweden, blah blah blah boring - been a long time since I was in Stockholm but it's pretty
- England: London, Oxford, Bishop Auckland, Durham, some other places too but I don't remember
- Ireland: Dublin
- Scotland: Edinburgh, St. Andrews
- Wales: Cardiff
- France: Paris
- Egypt: Sharm el Sheikh
Also, I live in Oslo, the capital of Norway. So - questions about Oslo, shoot 'em here.
Anyone who is is familiar with the south of Spain should also give me some suggestions to fun things to do there, because I am SO BORED with that place argh and going back this christmas.
Also, probably going to Turkey this summer with some friends. And will probably travel someplace (in europe) before then, otherwise I will go insane. Suggestions?

The (let's count them... at least fifteen) times I've been to spain, there's been a lot of talk about going to alhambra, but we haven't actually done it yet. That could be an idea. :) I've mainly spent my time around malaga, so that's... pretty much in the middle of the south. :P Campo Mijas is the only place there I've really liked so far - beautiful white town with fun crooked streets and a great restaurant called El Padrastro with awesome food and a spectacular view. Oh, and also I like visiting my grandparents, which is why I go there in the first place. xD It's just that the actual south of spain is sucky and dry.
