Title: A question...
Post by: TheFuriousWombat on 27 Nov 2009, 15:56
Many apologies if this is deemed un-thread worthy but I have a bit of a dilemma that I need some help with. The situation is this: I've been seeing this girl for a little while now. We met in August, were clearly into one another immediately, had a "thing" which became an "exclusive thing" which became an official "tell your friends and don't un-tag facebook pictures taken of the two of you together so as to prevent questions from sibling and such" relationship over a month ago at this point. Anyway things are going great and I like her a lot but the question, to make a long story short, is: how to I sign Christmas/Birthday (her's is a month after Christmas) cards given this situation? What I mean is I can't sign it "love" since we haven't been together that long and I obviously can't sign it "from" or anything like that since it'd just be weird considering we're dating. "Yours" struck me as OK possibly but also possibly too stuffy. There's clearly a fine line here but I have no clue where it falls. Suggestions? Thoughts? Cautionary tales? (Oh and I don't mean for this to turn into the terrifying mess that was the Relationship thread so please kill this one in its tracks if it begins to veer in that direction!).

just sign it with your name, no need to write anything else first

If it's a card, why not just write your name, with no little word before it?

EDIT:  Goddamn, Joe edited his to say the same right before I posted

Yeah.  Just signing it with your name is classy and simple.  Anything more than that can come across as creepy if done too soon.

Sorry to co-opt your thread, but I have a similar question. Do people at university, in general, tend to give each other christmas cards in the way that school did? Our term ends on December 4th so it seems stupidly early to be giving cards but I don't want to suddenly realise that everyone has sent me a card and I haven't even bothered. Obviously I don't mean everyone in the uni, but people I know fairly well but not well enough for presents.

Back in college Christmas hadn't been invented yet.

do you live in a dorm or residence hall?   when i did, there were some girls who made cards for everyone on the floor (coed res hall ftw).  i think some others just did it for the people they spent time with.   almost everyone gave the ra one.

it's really up to you whether you want to give them.  but don't be upset if you don't get many in return.   everyone has a different level of 'card giving' i think.

Just your name, but surround it with tiny hearts and then make one of them a penis.

fuck man, just write "love from Desmond Crisis" putting whatever your name is instead of Desmond Crisis.
Just signing your name is hella much of stand offish mang.
She probably won't even bring it up as a thang but if she does it's the perfcect segue to bare anal ruff ryding.

If you're hugging and kissing a person then you sign a card for them with hugs and kisses. Observe:

Quote
Blah blah blah Christmas blah blah

Name
xoxo

You could agree to meet and bring several cards with varying degrees of sentiment.  Wait for her to give her gift/card, and then give the appropriate card based on what her gift/card says.

Or just go with something simple and unique.  To this day, every card my dad gives my mom is signed simply "Me."  Nothing sappy, or difficult.  Just "Me."  It implies a certain intimacy because it assumes that there is only one "Me," but it's also casual.

That is why you also write the sentiment on the front of the envelope!
But if she sees in your bag that you have ten cards with varying degrees of love on the front then she might get a bit sus.

Also, make sure not to rifle through the cards to find the right one in front of her. Even though in theory you could be rummaging in your bag and she wouldn't see, you will drop your bag and spill it because fate is a right bastard.

Or better yet, do that and tell us how it went.

Then underneath yourname put xoxo->.

The x's are kisses, the o's are hugs, and the arrow is a pelvic thrust.

weird, Kieff, I do this too. I also sign it,"Stay Beautiful" when the person is lovely and pretty.

also, it's always,"Andy!" with an exclaimation mark.

PS- you're a big dirty hippie.

Is xoxo girly? I kinda like xoxo but I feel like it might be girly.

I can't sign it "love"... and I obviously can't sign it "from"

While in the dining room a minute ago I glanced at the Halloween card I got my fiancee and the message I wrote was:

Happy Halloween
with lots of love
From, Joe

If you're not sure about either word, just throw 'em both in there.
