I'm rather curious if we could start using this instead of Meebo, considering how many people are having issues with it.

I mean, I don't want to get it wrong and send it to the wrong person. That second period just looks weird.

Can someone tell me how this differs from gmail?  I don't need any invites (my office-mate has offered and I told him I would accept if I ever figured out what the crap was going on).

Well, it's kind've like they mashed up gmail, instant messaging and google docs all together with lots of neat features, like drag and drop pics into the "waves", and have extended the functionality with embedding stuff, as well. It's kinda hard to explain actually, but I can see it coming in pretty handy for my job amongst other things.

But gmail already has instant messaging with gchat.  I can certainly understand the combination of gmail (including gchat) and google docs being useful for sharing documents while instant chatting, but that doesn't really sound all that useful in non-work-related life, and since where I work has their own e-mail service...

Yeah, but it's like the email and instant chat are merged. So instead of typing a message then pressing send, by default it will appear for them in real time, as you're typing. But it has an email kinda structure and has rich text formatting. Also embedded videos and junk. And reply to parts of a message rather than reply to the whole message. It's hard to explain. And you can edit other people's messages, like a wiki/google doc.

To be honest, as cool as it is conceptually I don't know a single person who is using it for any reason other than software development.  This will probably change though.

Google's ultimate goal is basically to obsolete email and replace Gmail and gtalk with Google Wave keep in mind, so it's not surprising that it has a lot in common with gmail/gtalk.

There's also the fact that it's still an early build and therefore doesn't have any real settings to customize waves for more specific uses, so I imagine some of the funtionality will expand greatly in the coming months.

No, without the second period, it was just there for grammar.

This is sort of "old", I suppose, but still applies for most people, except there is less of a demand for invites now.

When the porn industry adopts it, then you'll know it's here to stay.

Google Wave is smart enough to add contacts from your gmail account that have googlewave as well to your contact list, so just make sure your friends get it!

Alright, so apparently I have another 17 invites.

This is more than the total amount of people I know. Who wants one?
