What is this animal.
-
An insect
-
I must be half right because that looks like a parasite coming out of it's back.
-
Yeah I'd guess it's some sort of, looks like beatle or cockroach, that got fucked up by a cordyceps fungus.
-
Looks like a male out of this family (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belostomatidae)
-
You just beat me. I think it's probably Abetus Heberti
-
Having read some of that Wiki article I'm not sure a) that I will sleep tonight and b) that I'm ever going near water again.
-
Wait isn't that a picture of tommy's dick?
-
Pretty sure those are eggs not parasites.
-
So glad people aren't ovipositing on my back. Walking around with a back full of babies would be pretty awkward.
-
Agreed. Everyone knows the proper place for a human infant is on the end of a lead.

Agreed. Everyone knows the proper place for a human infant is on the end of a bayonet.
Fixed that for you
-
Also thanks guys
Now I feel kinda dumb 'cause this could've gone into the "Sea Creatures" thread if I'd have known it was water-related.
-
aaaugh fucking hell i thought this was going to be a picture of a bird or something what the fuck man?!
-

-
They are.

Hey Ozy thanks for that link. It lead me to the article on the Schmidt Sting Pain Index (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schmidt_Sting_Pain_Index). I really like the detail of his descriptions.
-
and you guys say Australian animals are creepy
Bawx if there is a terrifying word in the English language there is probably an animal in Australia to embody it
-
Males attract the females doing a series of periodic movements near water surface generating ripples in the water known as display pumping.
The only thing that this last phrase calls to my mind is a bunch of "bro guys" thrusting in a swimming pool to attract the ladies.
-
someone make that gif happen
-
That image is disgusting and creepy as hell, but I would still pick it up and throw it away if a girl asked me to because I am a man.
-
I'm only vaguely ashamed to admit that if I saw that, I'd scream like a complete wuss and run in the opposite direction.
That thing creeps the shit outta me.
-
Its not what it looks like, its what it can do. I ain't going near one of those because I don't want my insides liquified by its saliva.
Looking at that Schmidt Sting Pain Index ...I can't believe those are the real descriptions.
-
BURN IT! SEND IT TO HELLLLL!
-
God you people are all such fucking wusses.
-
Damnit, Harry, I'm from Canada, our animals are NOT supposed to look like that! If they do, they have a clear future in becoming some sort of amphibian-cicle! Shit is WEIRD.
-
Wildlife in Canada falls into two categories: things that you kill, eat, and wear the skins and furs of for warmth, or things that kill and eat you.
Everything is upfront about it, though. None of this 'I keep my kids in a kiddie pool on my back' or 'I will sting you and leave you to rot in the sun until the vultures and dingoes get you'. It is just a polar bear saying 'dude sorry I'm hungry and it's cold no hard feelings' or a pack of wolves like 'hey dude what you doing out this time of night fool we gonna eat you'.
-
also when the animal killing you is fuzzy and adorable and their little babies are even more fuzzy and adorable it eases the pain of being ripped apart and disemboweled just a little bit

oh man you little guys are so precious
(http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/4848/wolfcub1.jpg)
how can you say no to that face

AHHHH WHAT THE FUCK GET AWAY
-
That is god's child and you should respect it!

Is it emu (http://i48.tinypic.com/2u7swhd.jpg)?
Or koala (http://i45.tinypic.com/2mhzlsi.jpg)?
Oh, I know! It's numbat (http://i48.tinypic.com/27wycjt.jpg)!
-
Hahahaahaha. Just kidding.
It's Ghost Bat (http://i46.tinypic.com/jq2wk7.jpg).
-
i don't know man i bet that numbat has some tricks up its sleeve too, no animal THAT cute and harmless looking could possibly survive in horrible monster land australia
-
Jimmy I think you have got "English" and "not English" confused.
-
Ghost Bat is english
-
None of those animals embody terrifying English words Jimmy you are doing it wrong

It's nearly extinct!
-
(because of habitat destruction and introduced species)

The numbat is cute but it is clearly up to criminal mischief. Just look at that criminal's eye-mask it's wearing.
-
As numbats are subjugated by humanity, their habitat destroyed and their people weakened they are left with but one choice; they must rebel against the social norms of the anthro-dictatorship. It's not their fault they're hardened criminals, it is ours.

A honey badger would tear off your nadgers.

That's profiling, that! Who made YOU a mod?
-
Your avatar is wearing sunglasses, Patrick. This indicates you have something to hide. Why did you disappear from the forum for a while? What were you planning?
-
It's already too late!
-
I was planning to move back here to California so I could be closer to Australian waters and more effectively send you psychologically damaging messages in bottles, Harry. They are already on their way. You're fucked d0gg
