So I've been feeling a little bawww lately. So I thought this might be a nice feel good thread for those of us in the northern hemisphere that are coming out of the winter blahs stage.
So the basic idea is that you simply post a picture (or more than one, within reason), that was taken on/of your favorite/perfect memory. If you don't have one for the exact day you can use a similar photo and/or just pick one that you do have a photo for.

do you guys remember my blog post about how perfect the weather was, and the memories it brought back? This photo here was of one of those perfect times, standing on an empty train station, soaking up the sun while waiting for a train to take me to Sydney to meet up with cool people.

Kris and Jens just posted two photos that equally apply to me, but I also have:

This is the building I live in (behind that enormous tree on the right-hand side which I don't think is there any more). On Saturday I was walking back across the gardens from a really great day of making calls to alumnae and just bursting with pride that I am part of this college. I'm so happy here.

The reason for being happy is actually the girl who took the picture, whom I maybe posted about in the blog thread last year? Maybe the relationship advice thread to. Needless to say, there was no relationship and I never got much closer than this, except for one night in Heidelberg, when we were cuddling on a couch at a bar, but then I made out with her ex boyfriend later that night, panicked and ran away, which compelled a friend of mine to tell her everything about me being secretly in love with her, and that was that (of course that is me over-simplifying things right there, there was much more going on on her side, what with several guys that she was dating on and off and she never really saw me as more than a gay friend or something). I still moved to Heidelberg anyway, as some of you might remember, even if only for a month. But I was happy when that picture was taken, and I guess that's the point?
Damn, blog post ahoy...
-
Not to say that I've been a sad sack for forever, but honestly, I don't think I've reached one of these moments yet. But I can feel it coming soon.
excitement.

I know precisely what the two best/happiest days of my life were but I have photos of neither of them. Except in my head, which is where all the best photos are kept.
Incidentally I remember when I was a kid and the Japanese tourist dollar was really booming in Australia and it was standard practice to make fun (behind their backs) of the Japanese tourists' perceive tendency to take photos of absolutely everything they saw on their holidays. And now we all do exactly the same thing! Ahh, the circle of life.

So I used to know this woman by the name of Rae. Those of you who've been around for a bit might recall about 11 months ago when I discovered that she was basically a pathological liar and a grifter.
But about 8 months prior to that Rae called me over to her friend's house and arrived to find her in the nude, being painted by her friend. It was alarming, then awe-inspiring. I took pictures with my phone camera.

That was the first night I met the artist, who is now one of my closest friends. Rae had suggested this as a project for her (and I think she did a great job) but as it turned out Rae would use the photos to try and break the artist up with her girlfriend. I don't know where she is now. I expect in a decade or two she'll make a truly exceptional cult leader.
The artist was terribly hurt when the outward appearance of Rae fell apart last April. I would've been too, but by that time Rae had already broken my heart and I had cut her out of my life. I wouldn't admit it at the time but I was deeply in love with her. I would've done nearly anything for her, all of us (us being our circle of friends) would have. She was alive in a very uncommon way, and the best I can describe it is that I "fell into her orbit".
I don't know why I didn't get rid of these. I was thinking about them today - I'm 90% sure I saw her while I was driving through town.
-
Yeah, you always remember your first blowjob on a roof in Brooklyn.
-
Ignoring my Pizza Hut / Taco Bell pic, here are a few examples.
My uncle's 50th birthday. Nearly the entire family (14 of 18) rented a house on Newport Beach, California literally on the beach. It was the best vacation I've ever had. In this picture I'm pouring Veuve Cliquot NV Champagne prior to the actual party (which resulted in EVERYONE getting drunk off their asses).
I ran the Chicago marathon in 2008. I had never been in as good a physical shape as I was then, and I've gone to shit since. I have a goal to run two more marathons before December 17th, 2012, and I plan on properly training for both. (I didn't for the one in 2008, for various reasons, and finished with a shitty time.) Nevertheless, I was extremely happy that I finished.
I visited China - Beijing & Xi'an - in May & June of 2009. Absolutely fantastic trip. I fell in love with the country. This is me in Tienanmen Square.
--edit--
holy fuck these are huge; sorry. Will edit them tomorrow.

Yeah, you always remember your first blowjob on a roof in Brooklyn.
I just assumed it was in a park cause, like, 93% of the outdoor photos you post seem to have been taken in a park.

Which college is this? I don't remember seeing it but it looks beautiful.
Are you allowed on the grass?

We are! It's Newnham, definitely one of the most surprisingly beautiful colleges. It looks pretty mundane from the street but from the gardens it's all Queen Anne redbrick splendour.

Goddamn hardest Sudoku ever.
But really, I am usually pretty happy. I just don't ever take pictures of things. And a picture of me reading books with a smile/concentrated grimace on my face isn't too great anyhow.

That fucking Sudoku game. How long were we on that? An hour? More?

It must have been two. Or three.

Sadly, that's not me. Limp Wrist at the 1in12 club last year. They played I Love Hardcore Boys/I Love Boys Hardcore and basically made my year, plus everyone had crawled out of the woodwork for this one. Dear god I love Martin Sorrondeguy. Just look at him!

I'd rather not actually.
-
Don't be such a pansy. At least he's wearing underwear!

Gay hardcore is one of those things that is excellent (and respectable) in concept but terrible in execution.

Unless you only like chugga chugga tuff guy beatdowns that really makes no sense.
Don't be such a pansy. At least he's wearing underwear!
He should be glad I chose a picture from early in the night, that t-shirt didn't stay on for long. I swear, that's the only time I've been reduced to a manic fan-boy. Afterwards I was just jumping up and down, hugging my girlfriend and squealing in excitement.

Oh man that is so wonderful

So, I'm pretty sure this girl hates me now, and that's totally my fault, and I'm a total dumbass, and there aren't enough words to aptly describe how much I regret doing what I did and how sorry I am, but this is probably the moment in my my life where I've been most happy. The night my friends and I took her out for her birthday.
Sigh.

That, Gene, was a 2004 Red Sox world championship ring.
I ain't a champion knitter.

Bahahaha, I saw knit socks and read "the closest I ever got to one of my childhood dreams" and assumed that the closest you got to a baseball championship ring was a knitting championship ring.
How did you get your hands on that?

The set from our musical this year. One of the most enjoyable experiences in my life. This is probably my happiest, most recent memory.

About 100 students all broke into the stadium the one day this year that it snowed and we had the biggest snowball fight. The cops came and broke it up and there were no repercussions for anyone.

The last theatre competition I went to. So much fun/good.
-
Holy shit, what type of budget does your drama department have?
-
We don't have a budget. Meaning, we don't get anything at all from the school. The entire play cost a total of $1600 and we made $3200 from that show by itself.
-
I know the cop who called it in and he said he kind of regretted doing it because he saw we were just having fun and all that but we were on the school's property illegally and if anyone got hurt, the school would be responsible.
-
What show is that set from? (i.e., what show were you in with that set?)
-
Wow, I wish we'd had sets like like that when I did theater in school...
-
It was Urinetown: The Musical.
-
Holy shit, what type of budget does your drama department have?
My highschool spent something like $18 000 on Jesus Christ Superstar.
-
yeah, we could never do anything that expensive. the school district hates us.
fact: our football team gets $55,000 per semester. what the fuck.
-
We never got any money from the school or school district for our drama department either. We'd do on average 10 full length productions a year, but our biggest budgetary problem was that our main theater only fit about 50. So, 8 sold out nights at 5 bucks a ticket would lead us to 2,000 bucks maximum per show, but about half of the people going got in for free. Didn't leave much to go towards sets or costumes.
-
Our costumes for this show were all done by our talented seamstresses/seamsters. They were almost free of charge except for some of the fabric and stuff. They were also great.

We went for a sort of steampunk style.
AND THAT is the end of me derailing this thread.
-
oh the action
-
Corrected.
-
Dawg that is less steampunk and more dieselpunk (dieselpunk has more post-apocalyptic or military or general cyberpunk influences).
-
Actually I'd say it's more avgaspunk.
-
I'd say it isn't any of those things at all.
-
You're right, it's adenosinetriphospunk.
-
Or should that be adenosinetriphosphunk?
-
Also known as punkocreatine.
-
No, that's what Danzig and Rollins take.
-
Inspired by steampunk. Not steampunk.
-
Yeah Katie, there are a lot of characters in the play who are police of some flavor, so that's probably more where the military aesthetic comes in.
Jacob, that is awesome that you guys did Urinetown! My university did it a couple years ago, it's pretty excellently weird and good for a highschool because it has so much role variation- lots of room for interested extras, but also lots of good singing roles.
-
I hope no one's mad that I'm bringing this thread up, but I'm feeling really excellent right now, and I don't imagine many of you are very anti-happiness.
I just got home from a really, really phenomenal concert.

I hope some of you are feeling good, too.

Why do all my happy memories which I actually have photos of involve the internet in some capacity? Oh well.

I'm on the left, eight years old. This was my friend Robby's 7th birthday party. The only person I still talk to semi-regularly is my sister, on the far right. I moved to Georgia a few weeks after this, and at this point I had no idea I was never going to see the middle two in person ever again.

After my first cooking competition, I am on the right with the stella. This was when I was working for an awesome chef and was around the time I knew I was going to make food for people. We had 30 minutes to prep, cook, plate, and serve our course, and I was working with a pretty green cook so it was a very intense experience that I had a lot of fun doing. We all partied that night, no cliques or circles or "we're more friends" etc etc and it was a very memorable experience.

I don't understand this thread. How is it distinct from the photo thread?
