Title: Good midi software? (keyboard sounds!)
Post by: Slick on 23 Mar 2010, 15:48
So I have just bought myself a dinky little second-hand M-Audio KeyRig49, which is a pretty straight-forward forty-nine key MIDI controller with volume slider and those silly wheels which make things sound fun. What I am looking for is cool software for the Mac that will give me good sounds to play with, so I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions?
The M-Audio software that comes with appears to be Windows only, so I haven't played with that. So far I have been playing with Garage Band, which has OK sounds, but really, nothing cool.
Please let me know ideas if you have such!

Contrary to the posts above me, I think you should try Reason.

(it's almost exclusively what I use)

Well, clearly Reason is something I'll have to pirate. They want lots of dollars for the real deal, don't they?

reason is best pure midi software for the price IMO *maybe thing like NUENDO is better, but idk), but keep in mind it is not full fledged DAW u will need 2 use ReWire (come with reason) and another program like Reaper, Ableton, FL studio, pro tool, etc to record audio :)

I pirated Reason for awhile but I liked it enough (and wanted legit xpacs enough) that I went on Ebay and bid on a copy for around $80, I think. Very worth it.
