Title: Craigslist conflict
Post by: messeduplilkid on 08 Apr 2010, 19:46
Just trying to get some advice here.

I sold a computer on craigslist. I advertised that the headphone Jack didn't work properly. A fellow came to me and we talked about it, and he decided to buy it. I did very little to actually sell it to him, no used car dealer tricks or anything. He even mentioned that he looked on some tech forums and could probably fix it.

Few days later he messages me and says that he wants his money back or 150 dollars to help pay for the repairs.

QC, what should I do?

If you don't have advice, this thread doubles as a place for problems buying and selling!

dogsauce like this sounds dead obvious straight forward here.
If it was advertised with a busted jack, and that was discussed, he doesn't have a limb to stand on.
If there is something else wrong with it and that's his issue, well, that's something else and maybe you should help sort it out.
Otherwise it's a done deal, you don't need to ask strangers to know that.

But Slick, I am a scared-y pants.

And I am fairly nice, I don't like breaking bad news to people.

If you disclosed all the problems at the get go, you have no obligation to this person. Some people are just dicks when it comes to flea marketing/second-hand shopping. Probably he does not want you to take it back and give him his money back, people like this bank on the seller wanting to be rid of it. What he wants is free money out of you.
Just tell him he knew what was wrong with it when he bought it and that's that.

Slick's got the right idea. You don't owe this dude anything if the problem's with the jack. If the problem's with something you failed to disclose to him when you sold it, that's another thing altogether.

Dude's just mad because he thought he'd be able to fix the thing but it turned out he couldn't. You advertised it as defective, he knew it was defective and bought it anyway. Don't be a dick about it, of course, but you don't owe him anything.

No I have it in the post in caps there is only one defect and it was the headphone-Jack.

I will send him a message letting him know that the sale was final, that I advertised the defect.

Thanks guys! I am far less scared now to let him know.

He wants me to contribute to the repair. Now he is adhering to my generous side saying that he should have been mire careful. And since I am nice sand he is trust worthy, that I might be willing to send monies.

I shall leave his last e-mail un-replied and leave it at that.

Also, this thread is now about urinating in things: officially!

Well, any person that feels that it is ok to ask for 150 $ for repairing the microphone/headphones (or which one it was) jack (pissed on or not) should not be taken seriously.

Piss on some Monopoly money, then send him that.
Or you can just not answer his e-mail, you know, if you want to be lame and all.

Sneak into his bedroom one night and carefully slide the jack up his urethra while he's sleeping.

I don't think he'd remain asleep for too long.

I strongly recommend pissing in his hot water tank.

You should send him an email threatening to sue him for defamation of character. You clearly indicated that the jack was broken and now he is trying to make out that you are some kind of shady businessman dealing in defective merchandise. Sue him into the ground.

Then later give him $150 to fix the jack.

Piss on his expectations.

Every post I make is an obtuse attempt at hitting on someone on this forum. Who wants to guess which posts apply to which forumites?

If you advertised it with the defect, making it clear that it wasn't working and he'd need to fix it, then he doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Tell him to take a long walk out a short Airlock - Naked.

Dovey's like a Corter wallet.

Six to twelve month wait- then you have to oil him and leave him in the sun for a few days. But totally worth the price!
