Title: #1758: Glitchy art? Is it just me? Or...
Post by: DA_IMP on 22 Sep 2010, 00:04
First of all, sorry if this has been posted already. I checked around but didn't see any topic for this.

I'm usually content with reading (and sometimes even enjoying! :-P ) QC. Most often keep my opinions to myself. But this one, it seems to have some significant glitches. Namely:

1) The new font seems to leave a lot of blank space around it, within each speech bubble. But it seemed to get even worse on this one. Especially on the very first bubble (Cosette's), where the font's alignment is not centered at all.
2) Third panel leaves a black blank space to the right.
3) Panel four. The borders on the drawings of both Hannelore and Cosette are kinda screwed up.

Just some observations. They don't affect my enjoyment of the strip, but I just wanted to mention it..See if it's just me, since I found no mention of it.

I noticed both of these. Hopefully Jeph notices them.

Also in the 3rd panel there is a thumbnail of the 4th panel in between Dora and the male customer.

I noticed this also.
Also noticed the line-art on Hanners and Cosette in the fourth panel seems really jagged compared to the other panels and pages.

Elionbel: That's what I mentioned too. Except you described it way better.
Oh, and "recipt" instead of "receipt."

Having read J.J.'s usual posts below his strips, with the self-flagellation, I hope this doesn't impact on him significantly. If you're reading this, Jeph-Dude... I read a good deal of webcomics, but yours I like the most. I've been on it since 2004, gave me plenty of enjoyment and appreciation of several kinds in all manner of situations. You rock. There.

I don't know what to say about the other mishaps, but I think the fourth panel line art is suppose to represent that they are shaking as they hide.

The fourth panel thumbnailed in the 3rd actually made me laugh when I saw it. That or there is a Picture Of the Future hanging in Coffee of Doom that has always just been out of frame.

Also, panel 3 is misaligned and a lot of punctuation is missing.

Man, it seems Cosette fucked up everything in this comic.

as i understand it, jeph has most of his scenery pre-drawn to save time and only draws new 'sets' when he is doing a new location or an old location from a new angle, or has reason to change something. if i had to guess, i'd say that panel three is off center because he panned the 'camera' too far to the right and went beyond the edges of what he had drawn.

the only thing i can think to explain the mini-4 in the middle of 3 is that he made some kind of a mistake when he put the individual panels together.

the jaggy lines in 4 look like they were expanded from a lower resolution image. not sure why that would be the case though.

I figured the jagged lines were them shaking uncontrollably

Honestly, with as many fuck-ups as there are in this comic I can only assume that Jeph is messing with the people who dared to not like the new font style. Really petty, IMO.

Nothin' to see here folks, show's over, move along, move along...

Some glitches made it into today's strip. jeph will probably fix them sometime today, and that will be that.

It's not the end of the world.

It is actually modern art.

She is such a major screw-up that she even affects the creation of the comic.

It's very meta.

Yeah, I blame it totally on Cosette...

Given her track record, I was afraid Jeph's topmost comment meant that CoD was about to burn down.   :-o

I'm not sure if this is worth mentioning, but I noticed that in the fixed version, Hanners lost the shading in her hair.

This is what happens when he tries to have the strip up right at midnight, I guess. Really, I don't mind waiting till morning to read the new strip. Take your time, man.

Based on my past viewings of his Livestream, the mini panel four inside panel three is for eyedropping. He does every panel in a separate file, so he pastes one finished panel inside another to easily grab the colors. I have no idea what the white outline overlay in panel four is, though. Looks kind of like the border Photoshop puts on vector shapes, but that doesn't make any sense. He never uses vector shapes, and that wouldn't show up in a finished, flattened image.

Jeph was drunk after he came back from the concert.

Some friends and I in grad school would go to the local drinkin' establishment and grade finals over a few pitchers.

Nothin' like working with a buzz on.  The last few stacks always went quicker...
