VANESSA
Yeah. I do.

WADE
What, then? Rough childhood?

VANESSA
Rougher than you.

Dad left before I was born.

WADE
Dad left before I was conceived.

Ever had a cigarette put out on

WADE
(suddenly serious)
Sorry.

VANESSA
Thanks.

WADE
No, I meant, sorry. Didn't know
there was any other place to put out a cigarette.

I so hope the end product is as stylised as this script feels it should be.

I saw a blip for this on comingsoon.net the other day.  I love that it's going to be made, though who knows if this will be the script or not.  I remember several 'leaked' scripts for the last two Matrix movies and none of them were what the movie finally used.

The latter. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was good but the pacing was very easygoing.

Well I recently bought and read Volumes 1-3 of Classic Deadpool and I have some of the newer ones from Secret Invasion in and frankly this just takes things right out of the comic and makes them even more fantastic. If this is the script they use and they have the same quality casting, directing and CGI as Iron Man then we'll be in for an awesome fucking movie.

They'll fuck it up. I can't see how Ryan Reynolds is right for this role either.

Yeah but this guy

ended up as the most disturbing incarnation of the Joker ever so hey I'd give him a shot. I mean he really, truly loves the character. It's not just a money gig for him.

That said, yeah. They'll fuck it up anyway.

I just got curious and started reading

Quote
Deadpool and the rider each scoop up a pistol.

The RIDER opens a car door, grabs a LITTLE BOY, and holds his
pistol to the boy's head.

DEADPOOL REACTS by •••

•••opening ANOTHER car door, grabbing a LITTLE GIRL, and
holding HIS pistol to HER head.

This is delightful.

Alright, I read the whole thing.

***SPOILERS BROHEM***

Good

Deadpool is spot on the sardonic, insane, violent asshole he should be. Enjoyable.

The minor characters are a little irrelevant and memorably insane. Also enjoyable.

Throwing in Colossus as the straight man is fantastic since Cable would require three movies worth of exposition to even begin to explain.

When the topical humor and references hit, it's really good. Especially the seething hatred for X-Men Origins: Wolverine that drips from this script.

Neutral

The obvious hard R. Ultra violent, sex, language. It doesn't pull punches and a small part of me wonders if that's the best course of action. I think it would be fantastic if it were censored down to PG-13 in the most hamfisted, obvious way possible, like...basic cable censorship level. ("This is what happens when you find a stranger in the alps!" "Yippee-ki-yay Mister Falcon!") I'm not opposed to it in its current form either though.

Bad

When the topical humor and references miss, it's Family Guy or, worse, a Wayans Bros. movie. The constant Amy Winehouse callback joke is I think the most obvious example of this. Abusing a celebrity for shits and giggles isn't good comedy. If it were clever, I could be down with it, but it really just stinks of something you'd see in Shitty Movie 3.

Breaking the 4th wall. I feel like the script misses the essence of DP's relationship with the 4th wall. The script has him aware of the audience, which isn't particularly clever and is a pretty ancient trope. I mean, pausing time to talk to the audience is some Zach Morris shit. Deadpool is more aware of the comic book than the audience and that needs to be the direction they take. Awareness of the movie. Talking to the director mid-shot. Mockiing bad acting. Playing with the subtitles.

**END SPOILERS BRAH***

Ultimately, though, it was an eminently enjoyable script anyhow. I'd love to watch this movie.

There is no way they are going to let some of that stuff go through. They will make him more audience-friendly for better ticket sales.

I remember reading that it's pretty standard practice these days, at least for gore-soaked films, to film scenes which are completely extraneous to the plot and so far beyond the pale that they will automatically be cut, on the grounds that the film classification people will cut them and then pass everything else that the film-makers actually wanted to put in, being satisfied that they have pruned the worst of it. I wouldn't be surprised if a similiar process doesn't occur with scripts.

Also since when does the forum auto-correct mediafire? I always thought we just typed that in ourselves...

I suggested that word filter like a year ago for the *wink wink* thread since we were one of the first places to show up in certain google searches for certain bands cd's.

Dunno if it actually helped or not, but hey...at least it looks cool and confuses people sometimes.

p.s.  t-rex is back! hell yeah

p.p.s. oh yeah, I read about 30 pages of that Deadpool script and it was flippin awesome. I really hope someone not shitty will make it without changing too much.

"this shit is bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S" is pretty much exactly what I was thinking as I was reading it....then he started singing it!

I was thinking more of the taking a little girl as a hostage part, which seems pretty typical deadpool to someone that hasn't read much with him in it (if only the library got comic books, I really can't afford to follow them).

I've been hearing great things about the script, but the link is down . Would someone please re-upload it?

I've spent a good hour and a half scouring the internet, but the few sites that posted the dl all direct to the same downed link.

Oh god this is so good.

If Ryan Reynolds is doing this, I can see him doing a good job. He's good at being a smart ass and actually I think he was the only decent thing about Wolverine. (That movie was so bad in a fun way, but come on, he made a good Wade.)

I know, he was such an excellent Wade! .......until they ruined it and sewed his mouth shut (?!?!?!) and gave him every power ever.

And yet....despite how horrible that movie is, I still own it on Blu Ray. I think it might have been a gift, but still....it's a fun diversion from time to time.

Just finished reading this. It reads like a 12-year-old boy's daydream. Which is all that Deadpool should be. I'm not familiar with the overall Deadpool canon, but I was a little bugged by how they expect us to be surprised by the Doc guy at the end, and how obviously they leave him hanging for sequelification.
Title: Re: Deadpool
Post by: Jimmy the Squid on 22 Oct 2010, 02:30
That was basically always going to happen, and it is pretty damn close to the canon actually. I don't really mind when films queue up a sequel as long as it's awesome. With the right conditions this could be the best comic book movie ever.

Wikipedia says that Ryan Reynolds is signed up to play Deadpool, like he did in the X-men origins wolverine film, but the Deadpool in that film didn't seem  anything like the character in the comics/cartoons, no charisma, so I dunno

Also Wikipedia says Robert Rodriguez is directing, which is excellent :)
