Dear the QCs,
I ask every couple of years with mixed results but I would like to discuss synthpunk/cybergrind/bitpunk/post-hardcore whatever other stupid genre names this non-genre has.
Basically I'm talking about bands like Genghis Tron, Cutting Pink with Knives, Rolo Tomassi and Trencher who fuse electronica/IDM elements with hardcore and metal. This is basically my favourite genre ever but there's so little of it about and it's really hard to track down new music. Things like Last.fm recommend bands with very little in common like the Locust who have the occasional keyboard but don't really combine any true electronic elements.
So, lets talk about your favourite electromashup shiiiiiit.
-
Have you heard of Shining? They use synth and saxophones.
Also Fullmoon Bongzai, which basically sounds like Black Metal mixed with dance music.
-
I have both on my PC thanks to the STEAL-O-TRON thread.
-
Well shit I got nothing then
-
Aiiiight, to simplify the process, here's what I've got so far!
An Albatross
The Berzerker
Cutting Pink With Knives
The Faint
Fullmoon Bongzai
Genghis Tron
Infidel?/Castro!
Melt Banana
Mindless Self Indulgence
Polysics
Rolo Tomassi
Trencher
A Trillion Barnacle Lapse
XO Skeletons
The 13th Unicorn
I can post and will post links later for any interested parties.
-
Oh wait if you like Melt Banana you should try Boredoms
-
How about Metal with ambient elements?
Also, I remember something about Dødheimsgaard having some electronic elements.
-
Shining are definitely fucking awesome. I've always thought of them as more blackjazzy though.
-
Neo Inferno 262 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFHb7yaYaPA)
Supergroup made up of dudes from the French black metal scene. They use way too many samples, but are otherwise good
-
You would probably like Curse of the Golden Vampire:
Curse of the Golden Vampire - Vermin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIyIqqp6OK4)
This is mostly Cyber/Industrial Black Metal stuff, less frantic and in-your-face maybe, but still might be of interest to you:
Aborym - Humechanics Virus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYBCGUUKV_k&feature=related)
Acid Enema - The Next Plane of Existence (Speedcore Version) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ORzl0cROi4&feature=related)
...And Oceans - Debris (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPPU8KgTmUg)
The Count Nosferatu Kommando - Political Police (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOd1o4uAxR0)
G.U.T. - Transilvanian Hunger (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENacQJituFU&feature=related)
Mezzerschmitt - Unter Der Fahne (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IdnbPf9pTc)
Sturmgeist - Party Über Alles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GV-TSG94rqM)
Thee Maldoror Kollective - Xaos DNA Released (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw-5LBD3-SY)
V:28 - As the Sky Opens (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGCVW7GiqxY&feature=related)
Also, Fear Factory are pretty gash, but I've always thought this ridiculous Gabber remix of Hunter Killer was pretty great:
Fear Factory - T-1000 (H-K) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXjiY1B9H-Y)
-
It sounds like you might like Antitainment. I guess they are sort of glitchy post-hardcore, maybe....I have no fucking idea actually.
here's a song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-LZIQQpGvc)
-
Thanks all! Digging that antitainment track.
I managed to get a copy of Board Up The House by Genghis Tron on vinyl the other day so I'm pretty excited to listen to that properly. Currently also downloading the BUTH remix albums.
It disappoints me that there's so little of this sort of music about, I enjoy it so much. I guess sonically it caters to my love of hardcore/metal and industrial/electronica simultaneously.
-
Not metal, but Atari Teenage Riot do a great combination of hardcore punk and hardcore techno.
-
I have a few digital hardcore albums sitting around, ATR, Ec8or and Alec Empire. The lack of melody is one of the striking differences between digital hardcore and whatever this sort of stuff is called. DHR bands use electronics to make noise whereas most of the aforementioned use electronics to create new riffs and add to the melody.
-
I've been wondering recently if there are any bands doing like old-school thrash metal, but with just synths/Nintendo sounds and drum machines.
-
I have an album made by something awful called SA NES cover which is a series of covers done on the gameboy of famous songs. One of them is Slayer - Angel of Death.
EDIT: Here's a possible link to it; http://downloads.somethingawful.com/mp3/misc/NEScover.rar
-
so, that Antitainment band....I downloaded one of their cds from Wink Wink thread the other day and thought it was the most obnoxious, terrible thing I had heard in a while.
but now it's sort of growing on me. I wish it was instrumental though, then it would be perfect. The singer kind of annoys me still.
-
Diapsiquir (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YbadbFIhQI)? Not full out electronic, but they use a lot of samples, and some voice manipulation. And are good
-
EDIT: Here's a possible link to it; http://downloads.somethingawful.com/mp3/misc/NEScover.rar
That link didn't work, but there's a bunch on Youtube. Most of it isn't as good as I hoped it would be. This one is fun, though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kR13F8-hAWA
-
I see nothing punk or metal about The Faint. Love Genghis Tron, though.
-
The Faint are more or less pop punk played with synthesizers which I think counts.

Found something you might be interested in.

-
I'm gonna try to upload The Mean Reds' two cd's to the MF thread soon, slow internet willing
they are an awesome band that I think you would probably like
-
Awesome dudes, this is all good shit!
That left-rights video was probably one of the most fucked up I've ever seen. Awesome.
Enjoying Gonin Ish, this is rad as. I imagine Japan is rife with this sort of music but I don't really know where to search or even how!
-
Would Anaal Nathrakh count?
-
Anaal counts no matter what genre we're talking about.
-
Holy shit (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Z1Ysf-S9QPk)
-
I guess this is a good time to resurrect this topic! I've been listening to Gonin Ish and Drumcorps pretty heavily since last time.
Any other recommendations?
-
see an otologist
-
Rolo Tomassi are the shit. A great band, saw them supporting Biffy Clyro and was pretty much blown away at how good they were. Lead singer is also great. And hot.
-
Anaal counts no matter what genre we're talking about.
... really? Like, double bill with britney Spears?
-
Hell yeah.
-
Would Gigan count?
They sound weird in any case.
-
Fratured's latest Beneath the Ashes would satisfy, I think. I's a mix of industrial, metal, EBM and dubstep.
