Nevermind on the EP d'ohhhhhhh
Khar, Le Morte D'Arthur I had not heard before, but I like it, will listen to again. Also, you don't speak highly of Ill met..., but I still spin some tracks off the demo when I am in the mood for some bleak folk.
I must say, there is some good music in this thread.

Sean, that is pretty excellent. But couldn't you export it out of the program as an mp3, rather than recording it?
Is that popular? My inkling was that they lost their finger on the pulse of the fickle beard-rock zeitgeist when Wolves in the Throne Room managed to somehow gather critical acclaim without inspiring practically anyone to listen to any other USBM.

I love how hipster metalheads have managed to assemble practically a whole stable of blackened crust bands that no one else listens to. Then again, I only mostly hang around the anarchist black crust scene so maybe I am missing out.
Meed-ee-yur-fie-arr a brother out?
Profound Lore, dude. Profound Lore.Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Profound Lore ends up pretty big this decade. They have been getting a lot of rising bands, along with a few with decently big names among metal circles. I've gotten three albums from them since the end of November, and there are a bunch of artists I'm interested in on it that I haven't gotten a chance to listen to much of.
Well, thanks to GarageBand, I've now joined the millions of sucky bedroom musicians who have successfully recorded themselves. I'm not going to punish your ears with my music (yet), because it's so bad even I can't listen to it. Maybe someday, but probably not for a very long time if ever.
I just felt the need to announce that I've officially joined the ranks of recorded musicians, and apparently they'll let anyone in.

About fucking time you got recording again, ya dick.
Look up the Glyn Johns method of recording drums. All you need is a single overhead and a dedicated kick drum mic. Two overheads and a dedicated kick is even better.
But that chord thing I was texting you about last night, that'll be the newest Havlicek Stole The Ball! track by the end of the week.
you modulate into Gmaj.
You could go back to G. After that, try playing F, and after that I have no other suggestions that wouldn't be obvious.
ps can we get lyrics
I wanna see your name in the headlines
with a lede that says, "He said, 'She said she wouldn't be mine.'"
And up above the eight-point uppercase byline
there's a picture of me, and I'm being led outside
You've been awfully quiet since he came around
but I'm keeping tabs on you, got my ear to the ground,
and what I hear is you're the talk of the town
but I knew that already. I'm keeping my ears to the ground.
His lips are lavish with yr praise, he seems
totally sincere and you are kind of amazed he
hasn't gone ghost like Swayze;
in fact, his permanence is driving me kinda crazy.
Was Regina too cold for you to handle last night?
Did you find someone who would give you a light
and a hand, and some words, and a ride, and a kiss?
You know, it's moments like this that I'm gonna miss.
And every step past an alleyway's a step that I fear,
'Cause every sound is your name, and it's the last name I wanna hear –
But at the same time, I could go on hearing it all night.
There's something kinda crazy about it;
Yeah, I think I'm in love. No, I wouldn't even doubt it –
wanna go up to the rooftops and shout it.
And if I can't live with it, he can live without it.
It's Sunday night, there's nothing to do. I better
pour myself a stiff drink and get some pictures of you.
And what you're feeling is the turn of the screw;
I'm not sure if I'm tight enough but, hey, I think it'll do.
Was Regina too cold for you to handle last night?
I read about the evils of drinking, so I quit
reading
And when I saw your name made the phone start ringing
I picked it up, said "I'm gonna miss you" without even thinking
Of anything except his cum on your sheets
And when you asked what was wrong I had to lie through my teeth,
you said I sounded so fatalistic well
I'll show you fatalistic

http://www.cvltnation.com/ix-hexis-review/
I got asked to leave, because I didn't value the touring aspect enough, so it was done politely enough, but the end result is still the same :p
I was going on about how we should really put writing new material as a priority, instead of doing more and more tours on the old material from the EP. Going an entire year plus a few months with only one new song ready seems a bit silly to me. They have a Russia tour lined up in April, and a MONTH AND ONE WEEK LONG TOUR WITH NO DAYS OFF AT ALL in the summer, plus a whole bucketload of weekenders in between. Plus probably some other stuff in between. All that will be on the back of the same 5-6 songs we've had for almost a year now. But apparently that's just how it's supposed to be, and now they've booted the main songwriter (riffs, that is... I take no responsibilty for the lyrics) so yeah, good luck with that.
Of course, there was the fact that I've hated the singer's guts from day one, and that in turn made me unnecessarily grumpy and cantankerous while out on tour. Of course, it's not fair that the others, who are great guys, and people at the venues have to put up with the "mr. Hyde" version of me just because one guy gets on my nerves.
________
It did come very much out of the blue for me, seeing as I'm conceited enough to think I was indispensable. I mean, I wrote all the riffs! A large part of the reason we were so well received, and the reviews were so good, was because of what I contributed via writing the music. It sounds egomaniacal (because, well, it is) but that's how I felt. But in the end everyone's replaceable once the songs are written.
________
(On being asked "What now!?"
Yeah, I'm gonna start a new band ASAP, since I love playing in a band. However, this one will be a bit more on my terms. I am tinkering with the idea of starting from scratch, assuming the role of "Band Captain" and pushing it forward from there. However, I'll do it without the callousness of my old vocalist and his relentless ambition.
Each two bands I've been in recently have taught me lessons:
Hexis has taught me, that if you run your band like your own little kingdom, and basically just disregard the sentiments of the band members, you will run the thing into the ground. I am 110% sure that Hexis will fall apart pretty soon, simply because I don't think anyone keep up with the pace set by the vocalist forever.
The death metal band me and Madsakre had, had a lot of potential and some truly great material, but we were just too fucking lazy and unfocused, so it just fizzled out and never got anywhere. At all. So the lesson learned there, was that you've got to work at it or else it just falls apart.
Also, me and Mads didn't really agree on which direction to take, since I wanted to do all this experimental, arty-farty bullshit and he just wanted to do some rockin', straight up swe-death with a healthy dash of D-beat.
However, seeing as I've had more than my fair share of being pretentious and weird-for-the-sake-of-weird, and I've gotten so much more into oldschool death metal, crust punk and that sort of thing, I'm sure we'll see a lot more eye-to-eye if we bring that thing back from the tombs. So that's one option to go for, which I'd be very happy with.
Another idea I'm toying with, is something I've wanted for a while: A bass-less, one-guitar Grindcore/Powerviolence/Thrashcore sort of thing. Kind of like Pig Destroyer trying to play Nasum and Discordance Axis type stuff but still throwing in the odd Nuclear Assault riff. This has the distinct advantage of only having to find a good drummer who can hammer out a mean blastbeat, and some solid, caveman d-beat. Vocals I can do myself, or maybe find a good vocalist.
In both instances, the tired old cliche of "Back to the roots" screams out. That said, I can't run from the fact that it's probably best to just play what comes naturally to me. In Hexis' little universe, I was always a bit of a stranger because I knew fuck all about that scene. I think I did a decent job, and I'm proud of the songs I wrote, but it still never really was really "me". It was more "me trying to do something that'll finally satisfy that control-freak of a vocalist with an unhealthy Celeste obsession".
Said straight off: Now I just wanna fuckin' tear shit up and stick to what works. I'll never be the guy who's gonna re-invent the wheel, so it will be refreshing to not have to try now.
We have a drummer
Thanks man. If you get the chance you should post a draft recording of it. If it can make you cry, god knows it must resonate with others too.Well it is hell of bad recording. Wife records the bass+drum machine on her $20 mp3 player. She emails that to me and I play it back over the pc while singing over it on my phone. All this digital tech and I think a pair of tascam portastudios would sound better. :D But you cannot beat the immediacy of working over 500 miles apart like that. Anyway, not ready for prime time. 3rd album stuff. Not even in the demo stages. Isn't that what you hope, that something you are saying is universal enough to touch other people? Or maybe I'm just a big baby?
But I don't try to plan it that way, beyond being listenable. And well that IS a challenge.
I just noticed that the title of this thread is messed up. I had always read it in my head as "...where we share and..."
This is the only resource you'll likely ever need: http://www.musictheory.net/Good on ya Patrick. I think we'll be right behind you, planning on getting everything duped and ready for our CD release mid July, now.
GUYS as of today my band Troubador has finished tracking instrument parts for our debut album, 'Beat Les Troubador'! We're well on our way to releasing on time (July 1) and I don't think I've ever been more excited for anything in my whole life.
Hell yea, dude, you gonna post dat online? We decided early on that we're gonna put everything up for free (read: pick your price, min. of 0) online, since if it doesn't cost us to put it up, it shouldn't cost you anything either. But physical copies would require dolladollabillz.Yeah, truth be told I doubt we'll make much selling music. Seems a hard life. But we've spend a LOT of money, not including medical bills to get this far. We recorded the 1st one ourselves but went to a pro for this one. I don't know. Everything else in my life has been a complete fuck up. This should follow the trend. :P Honestly I just want to sell some songs to asshole pop stars with money. Or smart film makers. Either/both. At 46 I think that's the best I can hope for. *(To date I've given away a lot of music, either d/loads or CDs, it is really about touching someone with what you try to do.)
Kickstarter FUCKING NOW Patrick, I want yr shit on vinyl.

Because the NF are fans/people too. But in all fairness, after someone grabbed the name ANAL CUNTS there are many good choices left.

Actually, come to think of it, the song you posted before ours ("Hey" - The Pixies) is another of the few covers we do at shows. Uncanny, man.

Need to find a vocalist or something, because I'm incredibly shy about singing, even when recording stuff with nobody around.
maybe you should transpose it down 1-2 semitones to help with the singing :>
haha, YES definitely! a friend just texted me to let me know he has some new recording gear, he wants me to re-record it with him. definitely gonna be going down a couple of frets for it. kinda goes without saying that the version i posted up there was not thought through in the slightest haha!
Oh man, I get so mad hearing stories like that. If there's one thing I will never agree to do, it's pay-to-play. It's not my responsibility to be The Reason there's people in your club. If they really knew what they were doing, they'd have regular customers and they'd ask you for a demo.THIS * infinity.

I have definitely said that aloud many a time.
Dude. Guys. Play the fucking Gilman. It is such a good time! For seriously.
I got propositioned by an underage Gilman groupie and I was like "Oh you're 18 in a week? How cute, here's a sticker" and walked off :D

I'm whoring my stuff out a bit here in my opinion, but that's fine cause that's what this thread is for, right?
So I sort of came up with this today and here's my first attempt at getting it recorded, probably the only one until I get moved into my next place, so I'm a bit impatient. I'm not sure what genre this is, but it's delayed pretty heavily and contains some light distortion.
Comes ungllued at about 2 minutes, so you might as well stop listening there.

Fuck yeah.
That's all I have to say. That's is awesome.
That will be funny as fuck for like six more months and then lose all meaning.
I came up with that one night, along with Yoloween. I am not a proud creature.
I somehow posted my divorce song in the relationship thread rather than in here.

I've been talking with Autumn Sky about setting up a show, but recently she's been hard to get hold of. Shame about that. I will keep trying, though, and you'll be the first person I hit up
If you want, Jimmy, I could point Ray to this track. (I say that like I'm all cool and know him, but it's just that we post in some of the same topics on a writer's forum, and he knows me enough from interactions that I could get his attention.)
Thanks. Ya, that kind of would be awkward. I don't think I quite get
it. "Doom Metal?" "Black Metal?" I'm not even sure what that's
supposed to mean. Sort of a Metallica thing going there, with some
rifts that remind me of Sabbath. Mostly, though, reminds me of

Hi! I'm still new, I guess. Mostly been posting my drawy stuff over on some of the other forums. Figured I'd throw in my hat in this thread as well.Woo, this is my exact sort of thing! And wow, you guys are kinda semi-famous (underground-big, as you say) - I've only just joined this forum and I'd already actually heard of you guys! Thanks to HappyViking's reviews, who is a bit of a legend. ;)
I play in a danish Viking/Battle/Folk metal act called Vanir. We've released two albums so far, and I guess we're what you'd call underground-big in our own country. We recently had a pretty major line-up change, so that was fun. End result is that the music on the upcoming album will be a tad more on the melodic death side (with a bagpipe, still)

Who, me? :psyduck:
I'm pretty much a one take and done kinda guy unless there's an insane bad mistake.
Christ guys, I'm trying to record for the first time in years. I have songs, but because they're completely instrumental at the minute, I'm being far too pretentious and perfectionist about everything. Do any of you do this when you're trying to get some stuff down? Surely I just need to relax and let my fingers do the talking...
But dude, that's because I like my shit messy and never make anything perfect. It's a stylistic choice as much as it's about competence. This is the main problem I'm having, I also want mine to be messy and dirty and grungey, I'll have another go today and see if I can chill out a bit more
depends on whether or not you're doing overdubs. if no, fuck it, just get your ideas down in a form where you can access them later without relying on your own memory. if yes, well, that's a little different of a story, but there are such things as demos.I have been trying to do the overdubs, and that's part of what's causing me problems, but even with the rhythm part I'm being overly prissy and perfect about it. I think I need to realise that these things are for me, they're not going to be heard by anyone else any time soon, so I should just chill out.
Albums take like a million takes of every track to get done. That's why it's always such a big deal when a band says 'we did it live in one take!' Which is most likely bullshit most of the time anyway. Not being able to get it done in one is nothing to do with musical competence. I can do perfect single takes of my songs all the time... until the red light's on, and then I screw up left right and centre because of the pressure, just like I sing better when I'm drunk in a club than I do onstage because I'm in DGAF mode and so I just let my throat open and the words fly.So stop being so hard on myself? It was so much more fun with bandmates I have to say.
My personal record for "most takes required to complete a song" is 106 or 107 (took me at least 6 hours and I swore a lot), and it was for the bass line to this song (http://sunraykin.bandcamp.com/track/rust-2). The most irksome thing I've ever experienced was getting the finalized masters for it and discovering that the part right at the end of the 2nd verse got cut by accident. How in the actual fuck does a mistake like that happen in the digital age? And to be totally fair and honest, this song is not perfect.I just bought that album dude, that song was awesome!
Still, I'm incredibly proud of this recording, and all my contributions to this song specifically. It brings me back to the whole 3 days we spent on this song alone. My bandmate had kinda dropped out of the song a little bit emotionally by time we'd recorded it (he got over his feelings for the situation that inspired it) and it had become a lot more relevant for my life due to things that transpired during the recording process. Kabir wrote the song and did lead vocals and the acoustic guitar track, and I either tracked or wrote every single other individual instrument/vocal part of the song.
It's been almost 2 years, and in that amount of time, I regret less the minor imperfections, and more the fact I can't ever make it out to Berkeley like I used to in order to go jam and record with somebody with whom I have done work I'm still just as proud of as the day we called that album done.
I just bought that album dude, that song was awesome!

shit, thanks! I can't say the whole thing is quite as good as that one (I feel like we got rushed in a number of ways in the final steps), but there's some that I'm damn proud of. "Slacker's Jaw" is probably my favorite. we used just our voices, guitars+amps, stomps and claps, and a weed grinder, and it sounds more like the real deal than some of the stuff we kinda half-assed with more conventional rock instrumentation. second favorite is the one linked before, and then "Bittern Suite" and "A.H" tie for 3rd.

Having listened to it a few times, I can agree with what you said, Rust really does stand out to me as a great track, not that any of the album feels like filler or is bad in anyway, it's actually brilliantly coherent and consistent. It really reminds me of Oh, inverted World by The Shins, in that I love listening to the whole album, but my ears always prick up when Pressed In A Book starts playing, it just has a certain something that catches me out and I love it.
Altogether, you should be proud of the album for sure. And now I need to start listening to Troubadour a bit more.
So I've been doing a fair few covers recently for my radio show, one of which is from Patrick's band Troubador - I covered their song Sunday Morning

-Hey there, have you heard of me? I'm so cool!"
It's basically like highscool over and over.
But anyway I'l post what I do, and maybe, maybe, there someone who will enjoy it and make me think again making music for someone else is not pointless. This someone doesn't have to post back.
(I'm not saying that people here are not honestly wanting to share and listen to other thing - I'm just bitter-tempered because I lived the myspace aera...)
Well ranting won't make a link more worthy, so here it is:

Thanks man, we enjoyed making it. On the upside, I plan on fronting the next band I'm in. I'm starting to come into my own as a writer a little more now, and I've been using my jam night as a testbed for my new stuff.
Damn it, troubador was a great band.
So upon further discussion and reflection I have realized it wasn't Matt that was the weak link, it was Paul. Great man, but he wasn't excited to be in a band, and Matt naturally fed off it. And ultimately it got to me too.
We started working with a truly brilliant new drummer named Will, and although it's 2/3 of Troubador, we won't be playing those songs anymore. New material now, there'll be a new name too.
I'm excited to say I'm back in business, and there'll be songs of my own in this new project.
Not to advocate wiping out the memory of Troubador completely, but is it worth pointing out that your sig still says that it includes you?

Just put this out. I'm proud of most of it. Possibly my most cohesive album yet, in that every song has electric guitars, bass, and drums.
For irritating legal and trademark reasons, I won't be able to use my birth name to release my solo album when it comes out.

I really like this. Did you do the producing yourself?
I'm gonna buy it at the end of the month and play it down the local pub if I get the chance.
My band did a thing.
This is the thing we did. (https://isgahaatt.bandcamp.com/releases)
