Like, 13000 posts is a lot of fucking posts, man.
-
Also it's impressive/crazy that Ray and I are still on the first page of people who post the most considering he quit forever ago and like, I've been banned for like a year or something.
-
Anyway what I'm saying is one of you guys who is an admin should probably give me a custom title, because that sounds awesome.
Also, maybe post less? Like there aren't any threads how are there 13 thousand posts to make.
-
I was gonna criticise you for making an immensely shitty thread and then criticising the quality of other threads but I like the idea of that "Board Theory" thing and hope it does interesting things so basically you're breaking even here.
-
Also some of us have a lot of posts cos we only have one account
-
It's lame that I got pretty excited when I realised I'd made it into the top 10 postcounts isn't it
-
I mean really that thread wouldn't have been made if I hadn't made this one first, just cuz the fact that this community used to be such an understandable and straightforward place to me is what really caused me to remark on the post-counts.
It's like, as I move into this new decade I am remembering that I have been posting on this message board for close to 7 years now, which is like, a small amount less than a third of my life, and yet for some reason the fact that Harry has 11000+ posts is just totally unbelievable to me.
Like I know he's been here, and posting, but I guess I thought all the post counts must have been wiped at some point for some reason because it is really hard for me to comprehend that people have made that many posts on this message board.
-
Also some of us have a lot of posts cos we only have one account
Yeah no I mean I definitely understand that my checkered history here changes the game in my case but even if you added up all my gimmicks and all my accounts and whatever I don't think I'd be at 13000. I might be close to 10 so there's some perspective there but still it's just a lot.
Also I am not criticizing threads in this thread although I have in the past it seems kind of pointless to me to just complain about shit without trying at all to make things better and I know that there's no way anyone is gonna take that seriously this time around, I'm like the boy who cried "you guys are faggots" but what I was really trying to say was there just AREN'T threads. Like the front page is pretty standard.
And probably in 100 plus pages of relationship thread you can add up thousands of posts, but, it also seems boggling to me that anyone reads that thread outside of checking to see if people have responded to their posts about their feelings, so...
Yeah I mean I dunno, man.
-
What trips me out is that none of the super high postcount people have ridiculous post per day counts. It's usually between 5 and 6/day, which is entirely reasonable, and that these huge postcounts are merely a result of simply having been here a long-ass time, like somewhere between a quarter and a third of yr life. That's ridiculous! What makes a person keep coming back to these places damn near daily for four, five, six years?
I'd be super surprised if some jokers hadn't written theses on this sort of thing (like, definitely more than one thesis. For sure). Someone dig those up for me.
-
See now we're back to board theory!
Also Tommy has 14000 posts, he just hides it well.
-
Yeah screw tommy, what a cop-out.
Anyway, I think you're underestimating two things here:
1- The amount of sway/respect you still get around here, particularly among boarders who matter (no offense if you're a boarder that doesn't matter )
2- The amount that people actually read threads, as opposed to skimming for something worth talking about. I don't necessarily mean people are only looking for stuff directly about themselves, more just something they actually can reply to. I usually skip a post if a cursory speed-read doesn't impress me.
-
I hope someone else posts in here soon, this is getting awkward
-
I'd be super surprised if some jokers hadn't written theses on this sort of thing (like, definitely more than one thesis. For sure). Someone dig those up for me.
Back when I was going to do my Honours I was planning on writing this thesis.
-
13k is pretty low, especially when you look at the posts/day. which is good news, i suppose, it shows most people on here are actually being productive in other ways and not spending all their time on here. another board i post on people will "celebrate" every 10k posts and the top poster has something like 47k on his current account.
-
We recently had a thread where we talked about how long we've been logged in, in terms of hours, and it kind of blew my mind when I actually looked and saw and contemplated the fact I've been on this website for a cumulative total of 49 days. Granted, some of that could be shaved for me leaving my browser open and leaving the room and stuff, but still. Dang.
-
I'd be super surprised if some jokers hadn't written theses on this sort of thing (like, definitely more than one thesis. For sure). Someone dig those up for me.
My wife's main concern at work these days is the use of electronic communications in higher education, and she has written papers on its use in assessment and teaching, and its effect on outcomes; but a board like this, being (in her view) essentially aimless or trivial navel-gazing, would be beneath her interest.
-
I am actually honestly surprised that mine is only 81 days because I feel as if I am on here like 80% of the time I am awake, and I've been here for years and years.
-
My motto is quality over quantity, of which, I have neither.
-
Don't be so hard on yourself, you've got pretty good quantity!
-
I have so many posts because I can so rarely resist the opportunity for a cheap and obvious joke.
-
Or multiple posting!
-

I could easily write my dissertation on something like this in the field I'm going into. I actually had a paper proposal on social construction of group identity on web forums accepted to a conference last year; I didn't end up doing the conference, but still.
-
Or multiple posting!
you must lose yourself in the posting persona. give in. the only person standing in the way of your postcount is you
-
bitches on my dick cause i look like vincent cassel
-
the above is a demonstration on how to get thirteen thousand posts with little or no effort
e: ok cheap jokes aside, the difference between this and other forums is that i actually post in multiple places on this forum. i've got posts in almost all of the subfora i think (i'm not sure that i've ever posted in the forum that was art & drawing), and i check music, entertainment and the i guess tech/video game forums as often as i do this off-topic section. discuss i check less often but i still poke my head in regularly. and i think the reason i do that on this forum and don't really do that in other places is that the community here is different and i'm more interested in talking with them about a diverse array of topics in those other subfora, so i have a lot of potential conversations going on at once. it's likely the same for a lot of folks, i would think.
-
I outsource all my posting to a slave labor company in china these days
PLEASE SEND HELP. TO 3 XINHUA ST BEIJING. WE HAVE NO FOOD OR WATER. MY CHILDREN ARE DEATHLY ILL. OUR LIFE DEPENDS ON YOU

Posting in the opposite of a legendary thread.

What trips me out is that none of the super high postcount people have ridiculous post per day counts. It's usually between 5 and 6/day
In my case I used to have a really high post-per-day count, but the average has been coming down because I've posted so much less for the last couple years.
-
Slowing down in yr old age?
-
I was a little surprised to see that I've been on for about 128 days. I've finally reached the upper echelons of posting, and I'm only at 4 or so posts a day, compared to the old days when I welcomed every one (then again there haven't been as much of those and it's mostly hidden thanks to being lumped in with QC Discussion)

Something something fiancee and not being married, I'm just not feeling it.
-
Yeah, I have seen some forums with 100k+ posters in only a few years because they don't have an irc channel or anything like that, they just post shit back and forth all day
-
Oh boy, it's a good thing we don't just post dumb shit back-and-forth to each other around here, right est?
-
RIGHT EST?
-
Well there you go then everyone, I guess estaben's point is proved.
-
Damn straight?
I don't know how people do it, actually. Sit there and refresh a thread over and over until someone else posts? I dunno.
-
fixing the f5 button is not easy work, i tell you
-
Yeah, I have seen some forums with 100k+ posters in only a few years because they don't have an irc channel or anything like that, they just post shit back and forth all day
Yo wait but what about my custom title.
-
this is my 6th year on this forum and i know my (relatively) low post count is mainly due to the couple of times that i left for a really long time but regardless, i think i've maintained a pretty steady presence before and since. you 10k+ people are just obscene.
-
I honestly don't know why my post count is this high.
-
I've only been logged in for 17 days in five and a bit years so I feel vindicated that I'm not a complete sellout. I've also left a couple of times so who knows. In saying that, I often feel there's not that much to say or that much worth saying on a lot of threads. The majority of threads in most subs aren't really things I'm into so I more or less only stay for the people.
-
Depends on how often you Post.
Hey, I've been here since '06 and only just recently cracked the 2000 Post barrier.
-
I've just been over to another forum I occaisionally frequent and the top poster there has almost 47000 posts in a little under four years. Frightening really, although punnage and spree posting is a part of the culture there.
In comparison, this place is nice and slow and I really like that, give you more time to take things in and enjoy more of what people have to say. Mind you, I do enjoy a drunken, wikipedia fuelled fish pun fight from time to time.
-
Hey I've been here 7 and a bit years and I'm only on about 1600 posts. I think that's good...
-
I am constantly amazed at how low my postcount is - I feel like I spend a considerable dollop of my time on these forums, considerable enough certainly to warrant more posts than the digit displayed to the left of this post. I do tend to keep my more trivial trivia to the Meebo though - so I would certainly agree that the presence of a chat forum keeps the post-per-day in check.
I do worry, in my more egocentric and pessimistic moments, that the real reason that I don't appear on anyone's list of "strong boarders" is that I am incapable of making a lasting impression and that my presence here is barely notable. Thankfully I don't remedy this with self-serving threads about myself - the darker moods of self-interest often pass quickly with me remembering about the spectacular times I had with forum members in for'n parts and the memorable hijinks that ensued (though that is probably a remark best saved for expansion in the 'Board Theory' thread).
-
Whoever thinks Rodrick isn't a high-level boarder should check themselves
-
3000 posts in about 5 1/2 years ... I feel kinda on par, I guess, knowing that there are a lot of threads and areas of the forums that I'm just not really active in at all.
-
Whoever thinks Rodrick isn't a high-level boarder should check themselves

it would interesting to see exactly how many of my posts consist of nothing but the word "word"
probably too many
-
goddamnit why am i always the one to break the page with some dumb shit
-
in response to ZJGent - as someone who's been lurking and occasionally posting here for like four years (oh god), i think the only reason anyone wouldn't consider you one of the upper echelon (so to speak) probably just hasn't been around here that long! you certainly don't post as much as some of the people who are super well known, but i've always found your posts to be entertaining and memorable.
anyways yeah i think i made an account in like late 2006 or something, can't be bothered to look. i don't post very much.

goddamnit why am i always the one to break the page with some dumb shit

Man, going into this thread I was sure it was going to be the most self absorbed bullshit thread ever. However, it isn't.
I forget often about this forum but I always come back. I guess I've been on here for like 5.5 years now which is sorta surprising. I'm with ZJGent on this - it's not your postcount that matters. I've had some great times with forumers but I mainly know them through the irc chan. It's funny how you can be so heavily influenced by a place and a community just by being aware of it and tapping into what it offers every so often over a long enough period in your life.
I've only been logged in for supposedly 4 days and 17 minutes and I have something around 500 posts I think, but it sure feels like a hell of a lot more than that - in short, numbers can't describe feelings, people, and a community.
You're all awesome.
-
I think at one point I was averaging thirteen posts each day.
-
And that was before I did this multiple posting bullshit.
-
I like to think we go back and forth with each other in the Pointless thread.
-
it would interesting to see exactly how many of my posts consist of nothing but the word "word"
probably too many

It's moments like these that make me realize my postcount is what you guys pull in a week.

Like, 13000 posts is a lot of fucking posts, man.

damn ur right, that's a hell of a lot of posts! hell, its alot more than my fuckin ass would type! most of it is probably just a bunch of shit though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I've been here for four years and have a relatively low post count. Its the same on the other forums I'm a member of. I just don't tend to post a whole lot. I also tend to stop checking different message boards for a few weeks at a time when work really picks up.

It's moments like these that make me realize my postcount is what you guys pull in a week you need Minties.

Mammarian Maestro?
Hooter Honcho?
... Bristol Baron?

honestly a lot of people only get better at posting through practice so frankly i encourage posting as often as possible. just post all the time. i mean think about what you're doing when you post – even the posts i make that are just the word "boobmaster" in this thread i'm thinking of contexts and preceding posts and the kind of timing you'll get as you scroll down the page, you know? every post is considered – but also just go ahead and do it.
-
I used to avoid this thread because seriously it doesn't say anything but it has suddenly become funny because breasts are funny.

breasts are funny.

That guy's gonna come back to this thread and not know what the fuck's happening

Pre-empted yr post
-
When I saw all the boobmaster related posts I assumed those were people suggesting custom titles for me.
-
dovey you are like among my number one dudes, i want you to know that
-
What I am saying is if my custom title was "Boobmaster" I would be really happy about it.
-
I would also be totally okay with my custom title just being "Custom Titties"
-
I can't believe that some people remember my name. My post count was so retarded at one point because I had a job where once I got my work done I was on here all day and I did have something named after me. Then I lost my job, other real life stuff happened and then more reali life stuff happened. And I abruptly remembered I had this account still and just came on here tonight. It's reassuring after so much that's changed I see some familiar names still on here. I was listening to Wilco today and I thought of that one guy who use to have several accounts. Tylerdurden and the five or more different names based off of Wilco songs and American Pyscho characters or other books by that guy. And Calenlass! And really all of you. Every time I listen to real metal it reminds me of Khev. Heh. I think I need more booze, I don't work tomorrow.
-
That guy you're talking about made the last couple posts.
-
The internet hobo? Shitdicks i can't remember his name now.
-
Totally gonna call Khar 'Khev' from now on.
-
Or Kiev! I also vaguely recall a Kiefer for so and so for who's name is obscured in booze
-
Man guys, I just hit 53 days on this here forum and like that seems like a whole lot to me.
Ray, I bet you only remember me because of how many times I hit you up on AIM at 4am when I was at uni in WV. psh
-
Pft, or how about all the times I'd hit you up on AIM when I was at work and you'd hop on between classes?
-
I am pretty sure there were a few months there where we basically never stopped talking
-

Oh so now you're criticising people for not removing vowels, huh?
It's the inconsistency. Remove all vowels or leave them all in, but don't half-ass and just mess up "your".

yr face is inconsistent
-
To be fair, a consistent face would be pretty dull. How would you tell when a person was sad? When they were happy? When they really needed to poo?

Oh so now you're criticising people for not removing vowels, huh?

Do we need a stylistic choice to replace yr?

Yawr.

How about we make a stylistic choice called spelling things properly?

Hey Dovey if you want to post more but don't think five in a row is fine then this is neat little breaker for you so you can keep going if you want.

I'm just trying to have a constructive conversation guys

God it feels like a fucking millennium since the last time I saw that picture

If you guys keep that up I'm ging to decimate your vowls. I mean actually decimte, ancient Rome style: I'm ging to go through your posts and rmove every tenth vowel. Se how you like that.
Like that?
-
You wouldnt dare.
-
but this post has only nine vowls
:psyduck:
Now it does
-
A decimated vowel, of course
-
It's not decimated, you removed the ninth vowel, instead of the tenth. The tenth was the o in your 'now'.
-
What on earth is a vowl?
A vigilante owl.
Who else do you think is going to keep all those mouse gangs and mouse hoodlums in check? The cops?
-
Vowels are sounds; we have five letters (aeiou) that always represent vowel sounds, and one (y) that sometimes does and sometimes doesn't. I have consistently counted y as a vowel when representing a vowel, and not when representing a consonant.
-
I still think yr is totally lame hipster bullshit, but I've given up really caring about it now, because it is totally lame hipster bullshit.
right, just so everyone is like totally clear: "yr" has its origins in beat culture, making it one of the few things which is actually straight-up, unequivocally hipster in origin.

Hey so I am kind of pleased that I am only just knocked off the first page of postcounts. This feels like quite an achievement considering I have been absent for what like five years now?
And now here I am again and Ray is all posting after years away and then I saw another thread where you guys were worried about me after the Japan earthquake, which was very sweet of you and hey, it's nice to see so many of you still posting is all.
-
Multiple posting.
-
:psyduck: And now you have this fucking thing! It's great!
-
Gryff! a lot of people have dropped off from here and moved to Pocket Jury. You should come to pocketjury, it's tops. We have the psyduck there too!
-
Pocketjury? What's that? Also, I'm apparently near the top of page five after less than a year of occasional posting, if that means anything.
-
Pocket Jury is a mobile media review website featuring an international collaboration of bloggers. (http://pocketjury.net/about)
-
Cool. And now I know what it is if I want to find out more, so thanks.
-
Gryff come be pee-jerks with us!

This thread made me realise just how lurky lurky I am.
I've been reading this forum for four and a half years and this'll be my nintieth post. I spend a lot of time on here, too.
-
what the fuck people still post here
-
There's more than one conversation on the Internet, you know.
-
Yes, but variety is scary. We like to pretend those other conversations will just go away if we ignore them.
