Officially calling it quits after first saying that it would be their last tour ever, then saying that maybe no they'd still do stuff, lcd soundsystem have said that their show on april 2nd will be their last show ever.
I've managed to see them twice in the last year, and both times were pretty fantastic, this makes me pretty sad.
-
seriously considering flying to nyc to see that shit.
-
3 hours man. 3 hours. That's their entire discography.
-
At the time of Sound of Silver they were meant to play a festival in Mexico City but there were some scheduling issues and it never happened. Then the year I moved to Japan they played Mexico City and didn't play Japan except for a festival.
-
I remember reading some interview with James Murphy back in '04 or so talking about how he had worked with Trent Reznor and how he didn't understand how Reznor could make music when it was so obvious he was not enjoying himself at all.
Sounds like Murphy's hit that point himself. I suppose being cast as some sort of disco Bob Dylan does that to you.
-
Boooooo. All I have is this poster from when my sister saw them. Why can't I see them too

Same thing happened to me. I was pretty sure I would be able to put my self in the general area of LCD Soundsystem when I was travelling in the U.S this summer past. They just played my old hometown a few days ago.

Murphy strikes me as the sort of guy that wouldn't continue making music if making music didn't make him happy.
-
I am pretty sure he fully intends to keep making (or at least producing) music. The statements they made when This Is Happening was announced/released just indicated he wanted to end the thing while it was still decent instead of taking the chance it would jump the shark.
-
The P4k article seemed to indicate that the band was taking too much of his time. Considering he cashed in after 3 albums + an EP over ~6 years I doubt it was the recording commitment that was the problem.
-
Well, he's not 25.
But he's openly stated that he's going to continue making music, it just probably won't be under the LCD moniker.
-
itt, tommy breaks down the Modern Dilemma.
-
So is this a good time to start listening to this band?
-
I would wait until James Murphy dies.
-
more shows being added (http://lcdsoundsystem.com/main/archives/649)
-
Yeah I read about that just now. I guess that's really good of them?
I can see why you would want to call it quits.
-
Yeah, more shows at Terminal 5.
-
Venue changes for LCD Soundsystem do not matter. I would see them in a broom closet.
-
Terminal 5 is fine. Not ideal maybe but I've been to plenty of good shows there. I'd rather be in an all standing room venue than watching LCD Soundsystem from Orchestra Section QQ several hundred yards from the stage anyway. Or any band for that matter.
-
I'm excited about the shows at Terminal 5. All the gigs I've seen there have been excellent, and I didn't want to break my rule of "the garden sucks i refuse to ever go see another show there" so this works out!
-
I was introduced to LCD Soundsystem when they opened for Les Savy Fav and the Arcade Fire on Randall's Island in 2007. That show counts among the most memorable of my life.
I have never felt more euphoric about being so exhausted that I could hardly stand.

This. Good lord, this. Fuck the Garden. I once had FLOOR SEATS for Lupe Fiasco/Kanye West at the Garden and I sat approximately 300 feet away from them.
If I have the chance to go to any of these shows I'll be favoring Terminal 5 over MSG.

saw the cobert report tonight, to be fair james murphy was on it and he looked old as shit. mad white hair and everything.
though even though i dont listen to lcd soundsystem that much im pretty bummed about this, it feels like the end of an era. straight respect for those dudes.
-
stop posting drunk on a monday night sean
stop having more fun than me
!!!
-

the point wasn't the venue changes the point is that if james murphy is closing up shop on lcd soundsystem, it would be nice if he would leave new york
-
DFA is probably going to be his main thing now - I think that when artists decide to get busy on their own labels it generally seems to end their band or one of their projects (see Jack White ending White Stripes)
so they've got a monthly mix thing going on (this one's from Tyler Pope), free download: http://pitchfork.com/news/41582-dfa-launches-monthly-mix-series/
Its a shame, but I can see that being part of a hard working band can just drain people. I mean, who's to say Zeppelin or Hendrix would've kept going on for ever and a day? Not a great comparison but bands can't last forever.
-
To be fair, they were just on tour for an entire year and played just about every country that would have them.
canada is a big country man this ain't exactly fair
-
"i'm tommy, i live in england"
i've taken shits wider than england
-
johnny there's not really any excuse for you to have missed murphy & co nevermind you live in regina
-
nobody cool ever comes here and they've started skipping saskatoon too
-
That's probably because they can't say "Saskatoon" without giggling.
-
I can't say it without extending the Os.
Sas-ka-TOOOOOOOOOOOOON
-
regina: boned forever
-
Whenever I see the name Regina I just think of the Possum Dixon song of the same name.
-
nobody cool ever comes here and they've started skipping saskatoon too
feel yr pain, bro
-
The complete last show.

-
should i watch it or should i just cry out of sadness and longing and jealousy or combine the two
-
Join me in doing both.
I've got the tab open waiting for me to start it but I just don't feel emotionally strong enough right now. I mean no matter when I choose to watch I imagine I'll blubber like a child (especially when "All My Friends" is involved) but hopefully I'll get to a point where I can at least keep it reasonably together
-
I am tired as hell but I am sooo tempted to just start watching this now out of fear that it'll be taken down for some bullshit reason or another before I get around to it
-
I hope they put out a live album
-
I sleep under an LCD Soundsystem poster from the Fillmore every night.
but i wasn't even there

james murphy has aged a decade in three albums
-
James Murphy has aged a decade in a decade?
I teared the fuck up when he was doing his final farewell right before New York I Love You.
God damnit.
-
Holy canoli, aren't you guys done yet? Can't wait for tomorrow morning's "Eating my cereal and still thinkin of u, james murphy" tweets
-
Nope. Not done.
-

QFT.
-
I watched the whole thing live, was squeeing and singing along the entire damn time. Good freaking god. What a show.
-
Yep, I cried. I guess this is what happens when you get older, you get to watch all of your favourite bands stop.
-
Don't remind me, Dovey. I was shattered when Mclusky called it quits, and I was only 17 at the time.
-
Well, it's better than watching them fade slowly into obscurity over the course of years and years.
-
hey, at least they went out on a high...I wasn't able to be at the concert, but I watched it on pitchfork.tv (have mercy on me!) and it was pretty dammed fantastic. arcade fire were a nice touch too :-)
-
Well, it's better than watching them fade slowly into obscurity over the course of years and years.
But then they can make a big comeback(a la Gil Scott-Heron)
-
Gil! Scott! Heron!

luckily for whiney most rappers either die or embarrass themselves before retiring
-
slash i guess it's hard to mourn something when you hate it by the time someone across the country likes it
-
luckily for whiney most rappers either die or embarrass themselves before retiring
Maybe if they rapped about the existential ennui of hauntological Brooklynites they'd meet more fanfare??
Also how many rappers have the option of walking away from music because it's become more about money than art? Other than Subtle.
-
Incidentally, I really liked LCD Soundsystem but it kinda chafes me that a symbolic death can elicit so much garment-rending, meanwhile (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,26204.msg1022675.html#msg1022675), you know?
-

a lot? In all truth I don't understand this. Lots of rappers make tons and tons of money by churning out bad albums and stupidly overpriced shows. Or am I misreading that?
