I haven't actually listened to it yet, since I'm at work, but hopefully I can give it a listen once I get home.
Tommy, is that your general opinion of his music in general, or this particular album?
-
Estate Sale Sign is quite new ground IMO, I don't think I've ever heard anything as loose and rambunctious and... rocky?... out of the Mtn Gts before. They've been loud before, but it's usually of the "meticulously controlled tension explodes into an entirely different kind of less controlled tension" (see: "In the Craters on the Moon" "Psalms 40:2") but this just shoots out of the gate and doesn't let up and it's not a tortured headfuck at all.
-
Um dude "Lovecraft In Brooklyn"?
-
Shot through with tension and uncertainty and horror and fear. Next!
I was waiting for someone to mention something really obvious and prove me a fool, but that ain't it.
-
This entire album is a lot more so far, I feel like all of these songs will be a lot harder for him to perform solo successfully.
I'm going to listen to the rip just so I know which songs are which, and then I will be back.
-
There's nothing mysterious or enigmatic about his song-writing or performance and the music is so clean and bright. The whole sound is just lacking grit and ambiguity.
Tell us more about Jonathon Richman!
Anyway, it's kind of funny how you can gauge when an album has leaked by when it's up for free streaming. Internet age!

I was definitely digging the opening track quite a bit. I definitely feel the rest will follow with repeated listens.
-
"estate sale sign" is so violent femmes-y
-
the line about "hotel california" in "liza forever minelli", oh my god
-
I know right
-
All Eternals Deck finally leaked for real (non-transcoded), y'all.
-
you know i like how this record sounds fine enough but they should just go back to recording at electrical in perpetuity, life of the world to come had such phenomenal production. wurster's drums don't quite pop out enough on some of the tracks here, in comparison.

-
john darnielle is that guy who sounds like a black, female, 60's soul singer on that Aesop Rock track, right?
because i really like that track and the things he sings in it, but i've never heard these mountain goats
-
john darnielle is that guy who sounds like a black, female, 60's soul singer on that Aesop Rock track, right?
the track is "coffee" but he just sounds like a nasally white guy??
-

that was literally the first time i ever heard his voice so i had no idea who or what he was....can you guys really not hear what i heard?
-
I thought the lead singer of Silversun Pickups was some lesbian until a good while after their first album came out.
-
You and everyone I know.
-
i just casually kind of assumed murray lightburn was a white guy for a long time
-
Re: "Coffee", kinda hard to tell because to me it just sounds like John Darnielle.
Also yeah a while ago John tweeted something to the effect of "oops looks like today is going to be one of those days where I listen to nothing but Silkworm" and I may have pooped my pants.
-
I spent that entire song listening intently because I was worried I would somehow miss the JD's distinctive voice. How silly of me.
Also, I kind of see it? But only for a few seconds out of his entire performance.
-
Related but not related: I was listening to BBC 6 music last night and Atlas Sound was on and I had to do a double take because he sounded like a white, female, valley girl when he was just talking.
-
While touring the Mountain Goats have been breaking out a Silkworm cover, and just recently they brought Tim Midgett out to sing it.
