34, lung cancer. Shitty.
-
i'm glad i have no idea who this band is so i can still laugh at the irony of dying of lung cancer on 4/20 without making myself feel too bad
sucks though
-
TV on the Radio are a pretty huge band, dude
-
why can't we have a thread about someone dying without someone talking about how they don't know or care. i mean
why

besides being an amazing bassist, like, 34 was way too young. wayyyyyy too young.

We can they just have to be from a hardcore band or something
Anyhow I liked TVotR's bass parts quite a bit from Cookie Mountain on. So sudden, too. Reminds me of when Trish Keenan got sick and then just died. The band made it sound like Smith's prognosis was optimistic. Hope he was able to get his affairs in order and it wasn't unexpected. Shit sucks.

Nine Types Of Light is as good a swan song as any.
-
Yeah, it's a pretty fantastic album.
-
Wasn't a huge TVotR fan, but man, fuck cancer.
-
Fuck I didn't even know he was sick this came out of nowhere for me, especially after seeing him look so vibrant and alive in concert a little while ago
R.I.P. Gerard Smith. Gonna listen to TVotR tracks with sick basslines today
-
From what I know of press discussions of people in TVOTR, Gerard Smith kinda got the short end of the stick, perhaps largely because David Sitek and Tunde Adebimpe just happen to be more vocal or willing to speak to the press. But this dude constantly turned out great things as a part of a great band. This is really sad.

Listening to Nine types of Light for the first time, I hope this band continues...30s is shitty. Any age is shitty, but c'mon.
Fantastic musicians dropping off the face of the fucking planet and we cant even blame drugs like you could in the 70s.
