I was wandering in the archives and came across this little gem http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=799 (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=799)
Who else thinks the sharp side should be down instead of up for maximum damage?
-
It goes in just as well either way. After that, it depends which way you're dragging it...
Ew.
-
Not to mention that it would probably come down in a curve, with the edge out leading into the would.
Also, nothing indicates that it is a single edge blade, or how thick the blade itself is.

It's pretty clear in the drawing that raven is two-hand weilding a French cook's knife. A fairly heavy and sharp blade for choping and dicing.
The single line that parelles the edge from the handle to the tip shows the sharpened upper edge.
Raven definitly is set up for a plunging stabbing attack. Poor girl. She'll have to pull the knife out for the subsequent attacks.
With the blade down, she could lead off with a good slash and follow up with horizontal attacks.
Until Penelope shows her true Pizza Girl self!
-
Or Raven is being clueless.
-
Occam's razor strikes again.
Of course, William of Occam was holding it upside down...
-
Your Occam's theory doesn't
hold up cut it.

Pen-Pen's first line in the 4th panel.
-
Countered by Raven's reply. She might be intelligent, but she's also an absolute idiot.
-
And in #852 Marten and Tai are discussing Raven as an undiagnosed savant.
-
And intelligence, hidden or not, does not excuse people from doing stupid things. Raven-centric examples - Sticking a flowerpot on her head, putting her underwear on backwards, her bsod when Faye walked into the coffeeshop, despite her listing several of Faye's negative qualities on the highly visible blackboard, oh and we can't forget the astro-glide hairgel incident.

Did the astro-glide hairgel incident have anything to do with Raven trying to be Nicodemus or something?
-
No. (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=370)
-
How about when Raven and Pen-Pen arrived early and Raven HAD TO get in via the A/C ductwork?
She even got a slovenly fireman to rescue her.
-
As a Raven fan (no, not the Baltimore version) I don't hold it against her that she's not an expert at murderin'.
-
Raven fan, Ravens fan. There is a difference. It's subtle. But there none the less. :-D
-
How about when Raven and Pen-Pen arrived early and Raven HAD TO get in via the A/C ductwork?
Urrrr. As a person occasionally (and, one hopes, formerly) known for being booksmart but not always enough of the other kinds of smart, I've been in situations where I didn't want to call for help because I didn't want to, you know, look dumb. You can fill in the rest.

See my signature for my thoughts on other kinds of "-smarts". :-P
-
It pays to be able to break into your own home/car/place of employment. Many people hide an extra key.
I just use my B&E skills.
Damn, I led a misspent youth! I can't believe how much time I spent picking locks...

Normally thats true...Normally. But we are still talking about Raven, who tried to break into the coffee shop one morning...and got stuck. Which admittedly wouldn't have happened if Raven had been trusted with a key, while at the same time, kinda proved why she shouldn't have been trusted with a key...
-
Sayeth TheEvilDog: See my signature for my thoughts on other kinds of "-smarts". :-P
I've noted it. To this I say: I've known many people, my late father among them, whose wisdom came from life and not necessarily books. It is best we agree to disagree.
-
Wisdom and intelligence are two different things.
"Wisdom is not a product of schooling, but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it." - Einstein.
Or perhaps Sandra Carey was a little bit more to the point with “Never mistake knowledge for wisdom. One helps you make a living; the other helps you make a life.”
-
There are probably books that tell you how to hold a knife for use as a weapon, but Raven might not have known to read them.
-
Sometimes you just have to cold stab a bitch RIGHT-THE FUCK-NOW!!!
At such times, you do not have time to make sure you are holding the knife correctly!
-
At such times it is usually best that grabbing the knife in blind rage results in the blade pointing away from the target.
It's the thought that counts, right?
-
It is a little-known fact (little-known because it is not true) that Raven actually went to school in Australia, where everything is umop apisdn.
-
umop apisdn
Brilliant. I'm sure it's been around, but I'd never seen it before!
-
Ok, now you've done it. Thanks to you, I have now this weird idea of a Sven - Raven - relationship stuck in my head. Why oh why ???
-
Sometimes, I wish I understood what the train of thought was that led to posts like this one. You're clearly not talking to me, or any of the ohter more recent posters.
Then I realize, I'm probably better off not understanding!

Do you remember, a few weeks ago, Jeph left Checkov's Gun The Sword of Doom lying around in Marten's apartment and then threatened Clinton with it?
There was quite the discussion about proper sword technique in the WCDT.
When I encountered the strip I linked to in the archives, I was hoping to see a little more of such.
What happened was a whole lot more than I expected.
Especially the "umop apisdn". KUDOS all around!
-
Damn, I was so taken with the knofe issues and the wandering of the thread I completely forgot that the original comic was Raven "Highlaner-ing" for Sven.
My apologies, Snubnose, your post was right in line with the OP, even though it seemed to come out of the blue!
-
knofe?
-
Channelling for Paul Hogan, are we now?
-
That would be knoife.
I just can't spell/have fat fingers
-
Actually, if Raven's gonna strike like that, a Dak'tag would work better.
-
A Renaissance condotierro on his deathbed told his retainer "I have no money with which to reward you for your faithful service, but I have advice to last a lifetime. Your thumb on the blade and strike upwards."
Or like Grandma used to say "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach."
Raven is doing it wrong. The knife is just going to slide off the skull or ribs unless she hits so hard she goes through the skull (not likely) or accidentally gets the knife inside the clavicle and severs the great vessels of the neck Indonesian execution style. She may be good with men and physics, but she's not a knife fighter.
-
Keep in mind that Raven once got a flower pot stuck on her head.
-
Akronnick....Got there before ya :-P

Another example of Raven being differently clued:

Alibi, albatross...
Close enough.
Man, I've been teaching college for waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy too long...
-
Is that related to the herring? That's a pretty bird.

Am I the only one who sees whats wrong with that?
-
PRETTY BIRD.

Check the newspost under that one.
Jeph's own words:
"Incidentallly, Raven would probably do well to watch some Animal Planet or something. Girl's insightful but still dumber than two inbred hammers."
-
OK, realizing the great majority of us don't know each other except as pixels on a screen, but I feel oddly compelled to reassure everyone I do, in fact, know that a herring is a sort of fish. or maybe :psyduck: as applicable.
-
Uh, DSL, the bird/fish thing was not directed at you.
Re-check the strip. It was Raven that beleived that herring is a kind of bird.
-
Ummm...
DSL was referencing the strip hisself. And I was aiming my post at TheEvilDog, trying to assert DSL (and Raven's) assertion, and make a joke of it.
I missed, of course.
Now, let's stop beating a dead herring lion...
-
Imma just sit over here, thinkin' about dogs. They're fuzzy.
Especially my niece's dog, which is in my lap.
-
*joins in thinking about dogs*
-
My dog is not fuzzy - she's smooth and sleek. :-P
-
PEOPLE!!! STOP THINKING ABOUT ME!!!!1!!!111!!
I don't like the attention. :-D
-
Wait - are you fuzzy, or smooth and sleek?
Or is that a little too personal?
-
I'm fuzzy if I haven't shaved for a week.
I'm smooth if I have shaved, so my girlfriend is a happy woman today.
Sleek....well, if I put a little too much hair gel in, then yeah, a little sleek :-P
-
Well, don't take advice from Raven about hair product ...
-
And the squick moment of the week....wait I've already used that basic joke before this week.
-
I know, right? I can never think of Nutella in the same way again.
