So far, Microsoft is pimping out the Kinect in dumb ways, ripping off the Wii's stuff (Miis, Wii Sports).
Also Halo 4 was announced. Like that was not going to happen.
*shrugs*
-
Christ. I'm watching the E3 conference now and they have made melee incredibly brutal in ME3.
-
Oh lord, please don't make the next Fable a Kinect first person shooter
-
Ok, Overstrike looks like a hell of a lot of fun.
-
Oh my god, this Mr. Caffeine guy at the Ubisoft conference makes me want to punch EVERYONE
-
Wait, what 300 hrs of play in Skyrim?
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/06/nothing-but-seven-minutes-of-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-gameplay/
-
So 11/11 - Skyrim and 15/11 - AssRev. Why Novemeber, why? I want these games now.
-
Overstrike and Brothers in Arms: Furious Four both look awesome and funny, I can't wait to get my hands on those. Also drooling over the PSVita and the Sony 3D monitor.
Oh sheet and the price of the PSVita is about $100 LESS than rumoured, so it's on an even standpoint with the 3DS at launch. That was a surprise!
-
I really do not care about the tintin game ubisoft. Give me a longer movie trailer.
-
So 11/11 - Skyrim and 15/11 - AssRev. Why Novemeber, why? I want these games now.
Did you see the short demo footage they had? Guy was walking past a couple 4-tusked mammoths being herded by a giant, and decided on a whim to hit the mammoth. Mammoth got pissy, and so did the giant shepherd, and they started wailing on the player. Shortly after this happens, a dragon comes and flings that fucking giant into the sky.
The coolest thing to come from Microsoft wasn't even in the presser; they announced some kind of cloud storage for game saves and marketplace whatnot. Live TV could also be pretty cool, because it might mean I won't have to cough up 80 bucks a month for cable TV that I don't watch most of and could justify my refusal to do so thus far.

X-mas shopping starts in novemeber.

Pretty sure Skyrim will be the first ever game I'll pre-order.

I am still loking forward to the old republic. They havnt got around to talking about it yet but they did release another cinematic trailer.

Need for Speed: The Run looks fun as hell to me, but I love racing games.
-
Wii U has blown my mind! :psyduck:
-
The developers behind World of Tanks apparently drove an actual Hetzer to the thing (http://game.worldoftanks.com/news/general_news/world_tanks_invade_los_angeles). Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Like Kotaku said, there's no way the game can top the trailers.
-
hehe I dont care still looks fun in the game play trailers ive seen to. :-D
I was not really interested in Skyrim until now. Scott howard, one of the Devs present at E3 has swayed me. I am excited for this game.
finally an Elder scroll game I can play that has dual wielding weapons and spells. not to mention go dragon hunting.

The dudes from Magicka really are a cheeky bunch. (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/06/07/exclusive-magicka-tweaks-skyrims-nipple/)
Makes me wonder how long it'll take before someone gets butthurt over one of their pranks and starts suing.

Eh, Bethesda will probably laugh it off and say "Very clever. Well done, good sirs."
Now if it was Take 2 Interactive....then Magicka's folks would be slapped with a DMCA notice and be out of business.

Kinect Blackwater PMC (http://kotaku.com/5809579/infamous-real+life-mercenaries-to-star-in-blackwater-the-video-game) game, absolutely disgusting!
-
Don't see how it's any worse than the shitload of army/marine/SPEESH MAREEN games that have oozed out of the video game industry.
-
I'd much rather be paying licensing fees to Activision than to a mercenary group with a history of killing non-combatants and being used as oppressive arm of authoritarian regimes like the U.A.E and the U.S.A.
-
yeah that's fair
-
I demand a new four swords to come out on the Wii 2 (not calling it Wii U yet)
-
Anyone else getting horrid flashbacks to Kung-Pow: Enter the Fist?

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Here is a novel solution: Don't buy the game.

Pikman 3? Awesome
-
well one of the Devs for Star Wars: The Old Republic said the game is planned to be released sometime in 2011. Since they havnt done a beta yet I am guessing late fall or christmas. He also said that most of the game is done, the servers are up and running, and that they are pretty much working on the bugs and polish. My guess is they will announce when open beta starts when they get their spotlight this thursday at E3 or perhaps their slated release date. I think this is the only MMO i am excited for after quitting WoW.
-
Battlefield 3. *drools*
-

daaaaaaaaaang
-
That....is a fucking epic spider boss. O__O
-
there is so much ridiculous(ly awesome) stuff coming out of all this, i don't even know. brief summary of my thoughts on what i've seen so far (aka Not Much)
that CG Assassin's Creed: Revelations trailer was fucking magical
Far Cry 3 also looks magical, but will probably not be any fun (fingers crossed that i'm wrong!)
that new Wii thing doesn't make any sense to me
i don't care about battlefield
SKYYYYYRIIIIIMMMMMM
that's pretty much it. i haven't been paying super close attention because my work internet is fucked up right now and that's where i do most of my aimless browsing
-
That spider is insane. Doesn't help that I'm somewhat of an arachnophobe.
Fuck that thing gives me chills. :psyduck:
-
Dragon Crown looks cool, despite the odd choice of character design. Wish they would bring it to more then the PS Vita
-
Pretty sure this was announced before E3 but I am super excite about the new HD collection Konami is releasing of MGS2, MGS3, MGS:Peace Walker (ok so not so much about this) and also ZoE and ZoE2.
But yeah, SKYYYRIIIMMM.
-

QFT
I think Konami got most of its stuff out of the way before E3 even started, I think.
-
Man, I picked up the second Zone of the Enders when I was way young. That's a good game! HD's gonna be awesome.
-
!!!!!!
Hitman: Absolution (http://pc.gamezone.com//videos/item/hitman_absolution_e3_2011_trailer/)
After a very short discussion I'm thinking the woman in the trailer is Diana. I imagine 47 did not take the events of Blood Money too kindly.
-

Fuck! My PS3 YLoDed again and I was all set to just say "Fuck it" and not fix it and now ZOE2 is getting an HD re-release?
That was one of my favorite games on the PS2 (by the end of the game you had basically been trained by it to have damn near reptile reflexes on the controls and were all set to kick the final boss's ass).
-
Hitman: Absolution: Like Splinter Cell: Conviction, but Rape-y
-
Also they sacked the composer, head writer and VA from all previous Hitman games, so that's troubling.
-
Konami and Team Ico are going to make me buy a PS3 just for HD remakes.
-
Also they sacked the composer, head writer and VA from all previous Hitman games, so that's troubling.
Ouch. I'll admit that I'm not a fan of the Hitman series, but that's a doozy of a sacking for anyone.
-

please tell me that va stands for something other than 'voice actor' in this context, because if 47 doesn't sound like 47...
-
Honestly, the only one of those I really care about is the composer.
I know some folks were a concerned about what the gameplay demo showed, but I am honestly not that worried based on it being more action oriented. They probably just wanted to show off more of the engine and really, action is the best way to do so. I also like that they added in Instinct mode. It makes sense for 47 and it's much better than having to switch back and forth between the map.

Might get this, I've never played metal gear before.
-
Should I play this in the mostly in game chronogical order of Snake Eater, Peace Walker, Sons of Liberty?
-
Try getting your hands on the first game to play through first (on an emulator if not anything else). Solid 1 establishes most of core mechanics without being too hard on you for it.
You could probably play the series chronologically after that, yes, keeping the context of the first game in mind. I've never actually done that myself but knowing how the story plays out in its entirety, Snake Eater certainly is a perfect way to get a player invested in the series.
-
Also, Transfarring. Seems like a pretty neat idea.
-
Also will probably get the Zone of the Enders pack
Oh Konami this is just the darndest cashgrab and you know it
But it will work
-
nice to see that Substance and Subsistence aren't included, meaning that the few copies on ebay will retain their resale value
-
nice to see that Substance and Subsistence aren't included, meaning that the few copies on ebay will retain their resale value
What did those have, just extra VR maps and stuff? Anything in the actual campaign?
I think Substance let you play as Snake in the Big Shell, doing his side of the storyline instead of playing as Raiden, but other than that, no.
-
Yeah Substance and Subsistence were pretty boss (zero boss)
But yeah stay away from Sons of Liberty initially because it is half-retarded. So is the fourth game, though the hype obscured that fact when it came out and was da best game ever made!!!
They are tolerable once you play through the good ones, though.
-
Why is those things?

*eyes bug out comically*

Spoilers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iroFnnBvezg&feature=player_detailpage#t=255s)
-
Also: Gay vampires
-
Also: Clone Presidents
-
Clone Presidents in power armor
-
The mere existence of Haunted Hand Transplant suggests that any good narrative qualities the MGS Series had may have been happy accidents.
-
I think I got this Naked Snake/Big Boss was cloned to give Solid, Solidus and Liquid Snakes. Clone Snake President Solidus was the adoptive father of Raiden the androgynous cyber ninja.
-
We got n00bs in this thread, spoiler!
Anyway, that can't be right, How could Solidus have been both the President and Raiden's adoptive father? Did Jack have amnesia or something? That can't have been right. I want to say it was the Colonel that turns out to be a malevolent computer.
Man, MGS4 could have been so much better if it didn't have to wrap up all the clownshoes mental bullshit from Sons of Liberty along with all the marginally less mental plot twists and awkward retcons from the rest of the series. They did about as well as they could, but it still ended up as a boilerplate "fuck it we'll throw EVERYTHING at 'em" anime finale.
Still bitter about how they completely fucked off Ocelot, the only consistently great thing about the series up til the Sons of Liberty point of the continuity.
-
counterpoint: snake eater owns from start to finish
-
No argument there, Snake Eater is top-to-bottom excellent. I'd think it's a good place to start, too.
-
also i think sons of liberty is tolerable in terms of its gameplay alone but is something you'll have an almost impossible time with if you do snake eater first. do them in the order they're on the disc. (you'll also get some fun surprises in snake eater at the very least, whereas if you do them in chronological rather than released order it's kind of like if you watched the star wars movies for the first time in episodic sequence in terms of the sheer joy of recognition of characters/locations/etc.)
-
Yeah, I suppose doing it from 1-4 is the original experience so I guess when in doubt, just do it like that.
Also yeah whoever said that good MGS writing were accidents need to be shot
Because Snake Eater gripped a players balls from start to finish and gave it a nasty squeeze at the end just to kick Snake when he's already down
Also I've been trying to tell people this but Peace Walker is also pretty fucking awesome except no-one who owns a PSP still gives a shit
-
Haunted Hand Transplant
-
stupid but also kind of funny really
-

Nanomachines and Hypnotic suggestion, remember? It wasn't literally a haunted hand.
-
Nanoconscious Hand Transplant
stupid but also kind of funny really
I also just remembered how Merrill (was that her name) falls for the series-long poop joke after it's revealed that he really had nanodiarrhea the whole time.

What? I knew MGS was weird at times but...again...WHAT??
-
in MGS1 Merryl knocks out the guard who's supposed to be watching her. this is the same soldier that Snake encounters having...bathroom issues in both MGS1 (i think), and then later in MGS4.
of course this is only revealed later, when Johnny (the pants-shitting guard) confesses his love for Merryl (apparently he likes a girl who can kick his ass [and has!]).
at some point it also reveals WHY he kept shitting himself, and that was because he didn't have the same nanomachiens as everyone else regulating and protecting him. so his gut got jacked up when he traveled.
one of my favorite stupid plots from these games.
the scene in 4 where Merryl and Johnny are defending the door from the frogs, and they are simultaneously proposing to each other and talking about their wedding is really great. makes me smile every time.
-
Essentially for about 4/5 of the game the Johnny character is a masked buffoon who is inexplicably on Snake's team and is roundly useless in combat, as he runs off clutching his bare ass trying not to shit everywhere (per the gag that runs through the MGS series - in each, there is an inept enemy who shits himself, allowing Snake to escape. The character in MGS3 is apparently the father / grandfather of the MGS4 character. This is a real thing). As the endgame approaches he removes his mask to reveal a blonde Adonis image, and it is explained that he was incompetent because his lack of nanites prevented him from properly communicating with the squad, and incontinent because he didn't get the nanite injections everyone else on the team did, thus exposing him to GI trouble as he inhales the nanites that fly through in the air in the battlefield. Thus the flatulent comic relief is overexplained (in classic MGS form) into a handsome badass, and he and Meryl fall in love.
Then they get married (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYTymyUvawU)
This is what happens when you give one guy creative control over a series, with no editors.
*edit - bah, beaten to it
-
ah but your explanation is way better than mine anyway
-
that scene was kinda cute

I like to think they're making fun of every battlefield proposal/relationship ever (thinking of the first two Pirates of the Caribbean movies as a more recent example, though it applies to pretty much every action movie ever where one of the action heroes falls in love with someone).
-
well, considering the entire MGS series is basically Kojima's tribute to american action movies...and kurt russel...then, i don't know if he was making fun of anything with that necessarily
but he could have been! i'm not a mind reader
-
So wait, why give us Sons of Liberty? Why not just #4?
-
I don't know, MGS4 for xbox has 'been in development' a while. Maybe this multiplatform release is meant to bring in new players (like myself) so they can sell more of the current gen MGS games.

Yeah, I've haven't played the first two but this new one looks super slick. You get a dildo bat.

They may not be the games that win awards, but they are fun games.
