Title: I don't know if I'll get eviscerated or not, but METAL.
Post by: Fistophorus on 11 Jun 2011, 16:52
QC focuses a lot on indie music, I know, but a couple of like-able characters seem to enjoy their fair share of metal.  Anyone else on this forum like blasting out to Opeth, Kamelot, Bloodbath, Symphony X, Jorn Lande (indie rockers tend to like him, in my experience), or anything vaguely resembling them?

Hi, my name's Chris and I wanna feel included ^.^

I will say that Devin is an amazing musician.  Not gonna give him hold over all metal with guys like Mikael Akerfeldt and Arjen Anthony Lucassen still writing, but he's very good nonetheless.

Back in my day, Neil Schon was the best metal player around.

I'm still waiting for Lykathe's debut...it's been 11 freakin' years, guys! Get your shit together!

I also have a hard time listening to a lot of black metal now that Valfar's dead.

The France recently has developed an interesting scene that mix exceptionally abrasive black metal burzum style and shoegaze. Groups like Peste Noire, Alcest and Amesoeurs are fantastic. Type O Negative, Opeth, Isis, Vampire Rodents (this isn't really metal but is effing fascinating), I Am A Lake Of Burning Orchids (http://iamalakeofburningorchids.bandcamp.com/album/summer-in-my-veins) (almost unknown noise/black metal from england ), Burzum, Tool, Zu (italians, they worked with Albini and Patton), Sunn O))), Ufomammut (again, italians), maudlin Of The Well are some of the metal groups I like to listen. Check them out.

Lamb of God, Shadows Fall, Switchblade, DevilDriver, Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, Pantera, Mastodon. Hooray for (relatively) mainstream metal!

Used to be more into power metal (Blind Guardian, Secret Sphere, even some DragonForce), but these days I've moved on to Mastodon, Neurosis, Mar de Grises, Grayceon, Hammers of Misfortune, Wounded Kings, Earth, Slough Feg, Gojira, Kylesa...

Those who like theeir share of technical death metal should check these guys out: http://www.myspace.com/pyrrhonnyc

Neurosis, Mar de Grises,

Great bands mate! The first one is ESSENTIAL... and I'm always glad to see people knowing and liking Mar De Grises... It's so nice to see a band from my country getting as big as they are getting. Incredible and beautiful dreamy doom metal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC0cJ2zeYoU).

Slough Feg is pretty much the greatest thing ever. "Traveller" is an awesome album, and "Tiger! Tiger!" from the "Hardworlder" album is pretty much the perfect rock song.

One of my fondest memories, is actually going on a semi-long drive with my best friend, with both of us singing along to "Traveller" at the top of our lungs. The. Entire. Album.

I love Ape Uprising, it's just such a great song (and album).
Oh and Second Coming of their Animal Spirits album. The way the singing and the lead guitar interact is amazing.
