Bought the Valve Complete Pack for 50 dollars today. I am so happy.
-
My laptop is just alright so I probably won't purchase anything except maybe jade empire at some point.
-
Just gonna give the grand prize giveaway a shot, even if I have approximately zero chance of winning. Or, uh, I could send a bunch of postcards and win stuff that way?
-
got: Bit Trip Runner, the Borderlands pack, Recettear, The Longest Journey, Winter Voices: Avalanche, the Stronghold Collection, and the Cyan Complete Pack (Myst games and other stuff)
I'm going to be watching in case if New Vegas and Cargo: the Quest for Gravity go on sale.
I wish they would finally work out a way to get more of the old Interplay games on steam. I'd buy them all again.
-
Commander Keen pack! yay!
-
kotor I and braid are both on sale for $2.50 right now, and just cause 2 for $5
-
probably going to get Braid and Spacechem
-
hate steam sales... too much money spent on games i don't play for a real long time...
so batman arkham asylum is pretty fun. yes, i just got around to starting it. =P also solar 2 is very nice.
-
I only just read the title but it seems a little off
-
the future is now, man
-
wait what did I get wrong
e:woop think I got it

I spent $100 or very nearly $100 over the last holidays and still haven't played half of the games I got. I don't imagine I'll spend quite as much on this sale simply because there aren't that many games left I'm dying to play, but it's still just going to complicate things even worse. I already picked up KotOR, which I skipped last go-around.
-
Fallout New Vegas and all its dlc is on sale right now. as is Alpha Protocol, Trine, and all of the Mount and Blade games.

I did buy Solar 2 just now but would have gotten it way earlier if I knew it involved space raves. That's certainly worth mentioning to those who are on the fence about it.

Solar 2 is fucking awesome. I am making solar systems and evolving my planets and shit and blowing up other solar systems in intergalactic war and it's like Osmos or Flow but awesome.
-
I really like the massive scale of this game. Billions of years pass in minutes. Interstellar wars are waged because my solar system drifted too close to someone else's. A highly evolved spacefaring race is obliterated because their planet collapsed into a star. Even when an alien civilization is caught in the orbit of a foreign star with life already orbiting it, they have to make peace or they'll be waging wars for eternity.
And all we see happening is rocks bashing together. If there is ever arguing that an eventual ubiquitous deity has a reason to care about what happens to individual lifeforms on individual planets, this game is a pretty good illustration of, well, that there isn't one.
-
My response so far to the sales have been surprisingly subdued
It's a combination of having very little money in my debit card and not really being incredibly interested in buying any of the things offered (due to having a huge backlog of steam games to play through already)
-
Similarly, my problem with these sales is that most of the games I'm interested in I've already purchased
at twice the price six months ago
and haven't even played yet :psyduck:
-
is deus ex worth getting?
-
or the Stalker games, while I'm at it.
-
is deus ex worth getting?
This is the siliest question.
Yes
And also get the leak for DE3.
-
Should I bother with the sequel?
-
You can try it. It's not terrible really but it's a very different game from the first and 3rd. I personally wouldn't purchase it, but I suggest playing it at some point to see a good example of how to make a decent game and a shit terrible sequel.
-
Anybody who hasn't played Deus Ex yet needs to play Deus Ex right now. Actual best game ever, no bullshit hype.
-
STALKER is a definite Yes if you like the idea of an open-world FPS-RPG. You should look into getting some mods for it before you start, the STALKER Complete overhauls are very popular.
-
I know that the first STALKER (Shadow of Chernobyl) is a great game all the way through. The later ones looks pretty much the same, so I say go for it. The complete mods gives the game better textures and AI, so I recommend them a lot.
Also, bind the medpacks to middle mouse button, will make the game so much easier.
-
Okay yeah got DX and the whole STALKER series.
-
Damn good choice.
-
you'll never go back to the linear pew-pew cutscene pew-pew shooters now.
they just don't stand up.
-
speaking of, I picked up Painkiller.
-
Good! Don't bother with any of the expansions/sequels though. There's nothing in there that the original doesn't do better.
-
New sales! The Quake franchise is discounted to a point where you would expect it to be based on its age. I tried playing the shareware version of Quake 1 but hadn't had much success, so maybe I'll buy it here for a thaler. There's also Counterstrike: source; not sure if that game even gets bought nowadays.
-
Well I bought it with the Valve pack
-
Command and Conquer 3: Red Alert
yay or nay
-
Nay.
-
Well I bought it with the Valve pack
I thought I received CS:S along with the Orange Box but now it's not listed anymore. Strange. I do remember playing it at some point and getting headshot within the first five seconds of a game.
It still raises the question whether or not anyone buys Counterstrike for the sake of Counterstrike.
-
Just bought STALKER, shit is intense. Might have to buy the rest of the series.
-
did you install the Complete mod? because that shit is, like, essential.
also i just bought Deus Ex and Thief: Deadly Shadows. pretty psyched.
has anyone here played Deadly Shadows? I bought it on impulse because I thought it was Thief: The Dark Project, which was one of my favorite games as a kid, only to realize that it's not actually the same game.
fingers crossed on that one :-P
-
I played it for a bit, but without nostalgia for the old Thief games, it was a bit too old. Still a good game, though - the missions were interesting, and it's one of the few genuine stealth experiences I've had. The mechanics with some steampunk/magic elements added to the mix is great (like water arrows to put out torches). The only thing that bothered me was that you were supposed to traverse the city between each mission, which didn't really work too well, as it was kinda hard to get around and distracted you from the main stealth gameplay. I'd still recommend it to people who wants to try something different. Just don't try to get 100% the first time around.
-
Played the training mission on my lunch break; it's definitely pretty different from The Dark Project, but the core concepts are the same. The bow-aiming animation is weird; the old one was much better, I think. And strafing feels super clunky and awkward, though that could have been in the TDP too, it's been a long time since I've played it.
Looking forward to doing some more lurking, robbing, and blackjacking skulls later.
I also found my old TDP disc, which I thought I had lost, but I can't install it on my fancy new computer.
-
Is it too old for compatibility mode to work?
So I was playing Solar 2 some more and I'll tell you that dark matter mode is suicidal fun, with black holes fucking everyone's shit up. It shows that the universe is actually pretty hardcore. But I was thinking 'what a shame that the physics in this game aren't proportional to reality, that would make it more interesting' then lo and behold, Universe Sandbox goes on sale. I think I had my fill with Solar though.
-
Gonna buy all the C&C3 games for £3 each yeah!
click on link 14.99 each :psyduck:
Fuck off valve you cockteasing sonuvabitch.
-
woo nwn 2
-
yeah, i just bought NWN2 as well. Never played it, or the original, but hey..six bucks is six bucks.
also bought the Magicka complete pack last night so that i'd have something to redeem my third set of tickets for
this sale is evil
-
SEE I BOUGHT NWN2 LIKE LAST TIME WHEN IT WAS AN ACTUAL SALE AS WELL
although that sale was like a couple months ago and it was 12 bucks
fml
-
Fuck Terraria is half price and I can't even afford that.
-
whoa they changed it
it was $2.50 this morning
-
woo nwn 2
urrgh, I have no money for games atm but I want this bad
-
I can't even play it. I'm on vacation and my friend only owns macs. :<
-
The Steam servers are getting murdered.
-
L4D2 is currently downloading at 0 bytes per second.
-
well, it seems Magicka was a tremendous waste of money. i can't play the thing. not because it won't run, but because i can't cast any fucking spells.
i'm doing the tutorial and no matter how i configure the controls, i can't cast spells except on myself. oh yeah and you have to exit the game and go back to the main menu to change your fucking controls. yes, seriously. so i've started and quit the tutorial about ten times now just trying to get the controls to work...but they don't.

Middle mouse button is a self-cast, right-click is a regular spell cast, and shift clicking does an AoE move.
Hope that helps.

-
Magicka is fucking hard. Playing it with three others probably the best coop experience I've ever had, though. Getting your head around the controls takes a while (remembering the middle mouse button self cast is tricky in the middle of the fray), but once you have them down, it becomes a very skill-focused game. Just be aware that you will die a lot, mostly from friendly fire.
-
I tried the demo and decided I neither have sufficient patience nor sufficient friends to make it worth playing.
Also, I don't have a middle mouse button FFFFFUUUUU-
-
hey, i'd play with you!
if i could play the fucking thing to begin with, that is.
i've done a bit of googling, trying to see if anybody has had the same problem as me, but i have found zero instances of this problem anywhere else. i feel like the Columbus of video game bugs, all exploring uncharted territory and shit
whatever, i got plenty of other sweet games to entertain myself with for the time being
-
The Steam servers are getting murdered.
I feel like there are some server techs deep in the bowls of Steam headquarters, tears rolling from their eyes as they plan the murder of Gabe Newell by the light of their burning, twisted charges.
-
yeah, i just bought NWN2 as well. Never played it, or the original, but hey..six bucks is six bucks.
Hey maybe we could play the campaign together. That is if I could get my multiplayer to work.
-
So should I get Arkham Asylum GOTY for 75% off?
-
yes
-
hell yes
-
Side note, I bought Fallout and Fallout 2 during the sale and when I load up the first one it looks terribly glitchy during the cutscenes and the whole screen is black during the gameplay. Is there a fix?
-
There's both official and fan-made patches for gameplay bugs, but I have no ideas about glitches.
