This could be all wrong, and perhaps you guys already know about this and I am just wasting my typing skills here.
Momo means Peach in japanese, but not only that, Pink in japanese is Momoiro (literally Peach Colored)... yeah you got it, Momo has pink hair.
But the thing doesn't end here... I think there might be another reason why Momo is called Momo, and I started thinking about it now that a chassis line appears and is called idoru, or just idol. The new chassis still has pink hair (seems to confirm my idea that the Momoiro thing is correct) but the whole Idoru mention made me remember, there is an idol that has a very similar name, Momoko (literally Peach girl), that actually also goes by the shortname Momo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsugunaga_Momoko).
Could the character Momo be in fact homage from the author to the idol Momo.
-
.. but she doesn't have pink hair.
-
I like Momo, but I don't really understand most of your post.
Anyway, with her new chassis she's going to get into all kinds of trouble. I seem to remember her having a crush on Sven. Uh oh...
-
Speculation is fun!
There were some other guesses for where "Idoru" came from, but I don't remember them offhand.
-
Maybe she just likes pink hair.

Eh, she's cute, but could not find any pics of her with pink hair. So the pink hair must've been a style choice made by Mari (or maybe Momo).
And sort of off topic, but what does '-tan' (Momo's full name is apparently Momo-tan) mean when attached to a name in Japanese? Yes, yes, I could google it, but I'm too lazy to do so.
-
It's a diminutive, like "-chan".
-
Momo is a popular name for pets in Japan, and Momoko is a relatively popular girls name as well. Marigold is a pretty big otaku, so she would obviously name her "pet" (now, friend) something Japanese.
On the "-tan" question: "-tan" is just the childish/babyish/also-way-more-cutesey way of saying "-chan." :)

If "momo" means "peach," she is a pugnacious one.

Faye will get you for that.

You win, if not an Internet, at least two or three Autonomous Systems.

*sigh* There goes my appetite for the next...decade?

I would be very, very surprised if it doesn't come from the William Gibson novel of that name.

So on a different tangent......um, the last panel. (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1533)

Either that, it was designed by Apple; but then, it would have to be spelled "iDoru", wouldn't it?

I'm loving that she's getting a bigger part in the comic. Cant wait to see what she gets up to now she's more of a central character.
-
It may just be a temporary focus, but what I find interesting is that her smaller size and body type was used by Jeph as a tool to pull back in the one teen character he's introduced. Momo's not suddenly going to start going to school or anything, but I can see Samantha wanting to hang out with her more, even after she finds out Momo's an AnPC.
-
Momo's social protocol database could be a godsend for a teenager, as could an additional quasi-adult in her life.
-
Um...is it weird that I think it's funny that someone named Gnomo started a thread about Momo? Gnomo and Momo...lol.
Okay, yeah...should have gotten more sleep last night.
-
If you thanked him, would that be "Domo, Gnomo"?
-
Domo Arigato, Mr. Gnomo....Domo...........

It also allows for some potential interaction with Marten meeting Jim and seeing how they bounce off each other.
