I am bored. Please tell me a good band to listen to. To make it more fun, I'm not going to say what I like.
-
That's just asking us to stick a pin in a list for you - no fun at all, for either of us probably.
-
Not really, I'm just trying to find people's different opinions in music and hopefully discover a few good new bands to listen to. I apologise if it was poorly worded, I'm just saying that I would prefer to find something completely new and different, without it being based on my tastes.

Thanks for the suggestion. I liked the song Vincent Black Lightning, but the rest of it didn't really sound like my kind of thing. Thanks anyway!

The Knockdown,

Thanks, I'm getting some nice stuff here.

The Knockdown,
I don't really understand the comma thing. I think it means you like them?
They've been one of my favorite bands for a while now, unfortunately they went"on hiatus" a few years ago when the lead singer/lyricist Vic moved to Florida. The rest of the band found a new singer and became Timeshares (http://www.ifyoumakeit.com/search/timeshares/); they're ok, but not as good, imo. (that site has their new album for free download, as well as an old demo. Kiss of Death (http://www.kissofdeathrecords.com/) has a split of them for free download as well as the album to preorder. KoD also has Knockdown stuff)

The bold comma thing was popular for a time with a group who have moved away from this forum, but got overused. Here (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,14880.0.html) is an explanation of its origin (don't go beyond the second post...).

But Paul, you'll miss this sheer greatness:
Peyton Manning is a butthead and eats farts for breakfast.
Anyway yes, pre-this thread I always thought The Knockdown were a great band, and am glad someone else posted their stuff. Along that vein of teh punx, listen to The Riot Before.

Somehow the greatest and worst thread I think I have ever read. Sheesh.

Something even more completely different:
John Malkovich strangles my daughter-in-law (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3sFYNNJNs4), Kirsten Blaise, (at 4'55" ff) who later sings.
(There have been different singers in various other performances on YouTube.)

The piece has toured to many places; the run that Kirsten was involved with was in Cyprus.

Hmm, interesting stuff, aside from the Fallout Boy and Justin Bieber. Eugh.

The lyrics can remind you of the Decemberists, but much less annoying. Good instrumentals if you like semi-folksy / semi-bluesy acoustic stuff. Give it a listen.
-
Josh Woodward (http://www.joshwoodward.com/)
whether you like his stuff or not, it's free (legally!) so it can't hurt to try it.
-

My friend's band Pilgrims' Way are a great folky english band who just released a Christmas single (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shining-Gently-All-Around/dp/B00669CQSS/ref=sr_shvl_album_3) for their own amusement. They've been nominated for a Radio Two Folk Award (really big deal!) and the word on the folk circuit is that this'll be their year. I hope so! Give them a listen (you can listen to a track sample on Amazon, or if you can't access amazon because it's .co.uk try iTunes).
