The poll questions seem to essentially be the same. Maybe you could merge all the options from the other thread into this one then delete the other (I only suggest keeping this thread because it has a bunch of replies).

If that's not painful to do, that is.

This week's possibilities:

Marten leaves Faye behind.  When she sobers up she gets pissed off at him for not being a mind reader and realising she's having problems.  Their confrontation quickly evolves into a discussion that helps Faye clarify her thinking about Angus.

Marten goes out.  Faye hurts herself by slipping in the bathtub or something like that.  Although she doesn't blame Marten he spends the next two weeks comiic time feeling guilty, especially when he figures out she was weirded out about Angus, and that's why she was drunk.

Marten stays to look after Faye.  When he encounters Padma again she's angry he didn't show up, because she wanted to hook up with him.  She leaves for LA on a sour note.

Happy anniversary, jwhouk. Let us toast to the next twelve months your name doesn't make any sense to me. :-D
... *toasts*

Hm... I just got a thought:
Marten goes dancing with Padma, they get to talking. He tells her about Faye's condition... she forgets all about the nice dance~y-date and goes into Dorie-from-Finding-Nemo-mode. She drags him back to his appartment, they find Faye sound asleep on the couch (with Pintsize in pieces in the corner) and decide to go at it in the bedroom.

Wait.. I forgot something. Hm... yeah, Elliot. Where does he come in during all this?

(This was all hopelessly exaggerated.. I don't know why.)

She might not be alone, though.

Until the comic's posted and it proves me wrong I'm going with my "Marten leaves and then Faye does something stupid." One of those things could easily be inviting over someone and then doing something ELSE stupid. Entirely possible. (I honestly hope she just sleeps it off and is then all embarrassed in the morning. I want plot thread resolutions more than I want new drama at this point in the story.)

Okay okay, then I will personally "gore up" every one of this week's strips for you, so you don't have to endure all the cute and fluffy.

Not quite what I meant by not more drama.

I just would like to see some of the plot lines we've been following at least diverted onto the next track before new plot threads are woven. Of course, We can resolve things while instantly opening up new conflicts but that tends to cheapen the payoff and then each successive plot resolution lacks punch because we're just waiting for the next thing immediately. No catharsis, if you will.

And since the comic has now been posted it looks like I was wrong anyhow (possibly). Faye looks dead-set on going and Marten doesn't seem to be talking her out of it so I guess we're getting wacky hijinks drunken-Faye style. I would like to point out to the "Marten is a horrible friend!" people from last week that he did just ask why she was drinking and she brushed his question off. See? He's not a horrible human being after all!

Ze tension, zhe... zhe tightens.

Yes Marten is not a horrible friend.

He's just got a case of the slows. Understandable given the situation.

Hijinks are certainly afoot, and I'm less worried about Faye, because she's at least sober enough to not want to talk about why she's not sober. ( :|)

Just because she suffers from OCD doesn't mean she can't be a maniac on the floor. In fact, it may actually help.

Either way, she'll be dancing like she's never danced before...

Its the usual odd coupling of misunderstandings (intentions, percetions, preparations, reactions all flying past each other) that always ends in a fun night no one was adequately prepared for ... just roll with it. :-D

@akronnick:
Thats what I meant. She has shown remarkable OCD-induced learning abilities in the past. (Also, being a drummer helps with dancing. I know.)

edit:
I'm going to sit back and relax now. Tired of trying to guess what kind of freight train Karambolage is coming next. Just gonna let it happen and enjoy it seeing as we don't seem to be missing out on the dancing after all. =)

For comic #2041...

1. Panel-for-panel, Hanners looks great for this strip.  I must say that I was wondering at "why" she was wearing such an outfit until the punchline of #2041.

2. I hope Hanners does go dancing is this outfit  , rather than re-using the blue dress yet again.

3. I assumed that Padma's dancing invitation was for club-dancing, especially since she gave Marten leave to invite any/all of his friends to come with.

4. I personally would love to see a ballroom dancing bit :-) .  Not for the current story-arc, just in general at some point.

5. I wonder if Elliot will be there for dancing?

6. I also wonder if Dora will too?  The potetial drama of the next portion of this story-arc is a deep tub to hold lots with sloshing water with, especially since Faye is already "sloshed."

Aw, Hanners tries to help. I assumed club dancing too in which case, I'd tell Marten it doesn't matter how he looks. At least to most of the club, if he really wants to impress Padma he might be in trouble, assuming she cares about dancing as more than just a way to have fun.

Looks like Faye is still coming along. Last week people were talking about Sven showing up now when she's drunk and freaked out about her relationship and he misses her body. I want to Sven again but not like that. NOT LIKE THAT. That said while anatagonists-with-benefits he said he'd "never intentionally" hook up with a taken girl. (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1319)

Also, my college internet blocks archive searchs for comics with Sven as "Offensive and Tastleless content" but not Pintsize.

Hanners' off-the-shoulder outfit is, I think, a shout-out to that worn by Jennifer Beals in Flashdance. Dancing, even more perhaps than drumming, is "counting with your whole body", so it should appeal to Hanners. The cleanliness of the average club? Not so much.

I confess I had never heard of Merce Cunningham and had to look him up. But then, according to a quotation on Wikipedia, he thought that the I Ching was published in the 1950s... So I guess we're even.

Yeah. May well be that Hanners has spent 18 hours (or more) polishing her Flashdance. Too bad the drummer may not
get to show off those moves on stage, if Deathmole ever gets a gig!

It's a relief to see Faye with the rest of them. At this point she is more likely to just embarrass herself in an epic way, but that's ok. She (and her reputation) will survive. It doesn't feel likely that she would hurt herself (or her relationship) during their evening's entertainment.

That strikes me as something we'd see in a Wil and Penelope strip.  He seems like he might be the kind of person who'd have learned it, and she seems like the kind of person who'd love to do it, especially if it meant dressing up in some sort of fancy dress.

My advice to Marten at this point is drawn from personal experience: The more drunk the people around you are, the better the dancer you are. And in my case, even the sober ones had to admit I was dancin' like I'd never danced before.
"No, seriously," they'd say. "You've never done this before, have you?"

Hanners kinda reminds me of a friend who'd go from oneinterest/obsession to another. First, there were stacks of books about bicycles. Then one day, wham, thousand-dollar bike and industrial-grade spandex everywhere. Then, books about motorcycles. Next thing you know, a BMW road machine (well, EVERYONE has a Harley these days) -- gotta give him credit, though; his last couple job interviews took him from one end of the US to the other on that motorbike, plus a couple other trips just for fun, not to mention motorbiking through Croatia (though let's be reasonable; he flew over and rented another motorbike). Nothing but admiration for that guy. If Hanners had his focus, she'd have her own space station. WITH a CoD franchise on board. And then she'd move to the moon.

Someone's gonna end up with Faye's vomit on them before the night is over. Maybe Marten, but more likely Padma or Elliot (assuming he shows). Possibly even poor Hannelore-I can see it now, Faye BLORRRFFing all over her, and the poor girl going completely BSOD and requiring yet another hard reset. Along with a disinfectant scrub and a long scalding hot shower.

A note from someone who lived through the 1980's and survived: Hannelore looks less like Jennifer Beals and more like Olivia Newton-John from her Physical days.
Title: Re: WCDT 2041-2045; Oct. 24-28 2011

Agreed.  Beals didn't wear a headband, Olivia did in the "Physical" video.  Of course the blonde hair helps lead to the comparison.  It is possible Jeph simply meant her to look like a typical dancer in their practice clothes, since he was 3 when  Flashdance came out.

I'm starting to worry about Faye.  She is way too happy for someone that's drunk on Coping Mechanism.  To me it looks like she's in serious self-denial mode, and if that's the case she is not going to be pleasant to be around when she finally does crash.

In other news, yeah Hannelore!  You can always trust her presence to lighten any situation.

am I the only one who noticed that Jeph didn't fill in the space between Martin's fingers with red on the third panel? When I was watching on his live stream I was thinking "I bet he did that on purpose to see if any nitpicking jerks like me would mention it"
Anyway, for the actual content, I don't think Faye seems way too happy. Obviously she's in serious self-denial mode; that's why she got plastered. Sounds like she fully intends on going with Marten and Hanners. Maybe she'll catapult Jimbo across the room?

The cover is just that way. Hanners' fingers were covering the Green and Peach spots on the back cover before Marten took the book.

…And now I'm imagining Hanners in a welding mask and fitted coveralls….
She did that already in one strip when she tried to fix Marten's thumb that he hit with a hammer.
That was just a plastic face-shield for protection against splash etc. A welding mask is very different. I hope it is not necessary to warn anybody here not to confuse the two, but I've seen the results of arc-welding with inadequate eye protection in the ER at work, and it is SO not pretty.

I don't think it was intended to be sexy really. She was wearing shorts and sitting like that with an over sized top you couldn't see them. And then ships set sale.

Also, now we know that Faye IS coming with Marten to the dance. Could be interesting.

For comic #2042...

1. Yay for Hannelore going dancing in the "Flashdance" outfit.  I think we will see quite a few guys drawn to her whilst dancing, and that will make for good comedy &/or drama.  It will be interesting to see how the rest of the cast act to "protect" everyone's favorite nervous-breakdown-waiting-to-happen.

2. Poor Faye, our southern punching belle is finding out that size and mass do count against you in a fight, as much as being drunk.  The way Faye was side-sneaking around Elliot in panel #2 in order to flank-attack him was pretty funny once I read the punchline panel and retroactively figured it out :-) .

3. Good for Elliot feeling better despite love-confession rejection.  As I had said earlier, it may not have been the "best" thing to do, but it was the "correct" thing to do.  Elliot's look of relief was also well done.

4. Elliot should go to dancing too.  Past the initial awkwardness, he should spend as much time with the girl he cares about so much before she is gone.

5. Regardless of how things turn out with Padma, I think Marten has definitely made a friend in Elliot.  Which is also good, Marten could use more male friends at this time.  Plus it keeps ties with The Secret Bakery too, once Padma moves away.

6. I admit that I did not know that "Pond" was a band, either.  And also thought of Doctor Who (#11) companion Amy Pond ("Come along Pond(s)!").

7. "Flashdance" Hanners filler drawing (http://jephjacques.com/post/11901661269/filler-drawing-that-ended-up-not-being-filler) is both cute and sexy, in my opinion.  Perhaps not simultaneously together, but definitely both 8-) .

The thing Faye is gonna regret the most come next morning is that she tried to give Elliot an "Indian Burn" ... that is so primary school, she will have an embarassed fitz.
(Also, I apologize for using a semi-racist term ...)

Once I'm home I'll fix that whole "pantsless"-situation. ... I just can't let it stand like that, by thunder!

Yeah, I'm kinda creeped out by that filler pic, almost looks like it's trying to be cheesecake or something.

Not because it isn't sexy, but because it's Hanners. (And, it certainly does look like she's pantsless in the unused filler, and not wearing shorts, especially given 2041.)

(How long before we need that Weekly Comic Discussion strip, involving the bearhat guy, and saying not to be that guy?)

As for the comic, good to see that Elliot is handling it well now. (And, hopefully Jeph feels better soon, seeing his comments on Twitter.)

As for Flashdance Hanners, the poster is sexy, funny and cute. (EDIT: And Akima's Photoshoppery over in the fanart thread makes it even better). The art is nowhere near as creepy as some of the comments and speculation about it are.

Except that Elliot has not done anything at all threatening. I'm sorry, but I don't find drunken fits of stupidity very cute. Amusing, maybe. Very rarely adorable.

I actually hope that Marten does invite Elliot along. He seems to be doing better now, and it might be good for him to get a chance to talk to Padma again, face to face. I'm sure she doesn't want to leave on such a sour note (with him) any more than he does.

I really hope he doesn't.  It'd be nice for them to part on a good note, but for Marten to invite him along would be well overstepping his boundaries.  After all, she invited him to have a good time; inviting someone likely to cause drama would just be wrong.

Yeah, I expect that Padma invited Elliot too.  It seems like her nature as well: remember that one of her big concerns about Elliot's confession was how he called in the next day.  Obviously she doesn't want to leave with any weirdness between her friends, and inviting Elliot is probably her way of saying "forget about it and have fun."  Now to find out if it actually works: I can't help but notice that Jeph seems to be steering two relationship dramas onto a collision course, and I'm sure if that's the case then he has plenty of hilarity planned for the event.

I have only one criticism of Comic 2042 and I offer it somewhat hesitantly, because of Jeph's accounting of how it came to be, but here goes. A character secondary to that installment's events will pop on for one panel and vanish thereafter. Most of the time it's one of the AnPCs, who will deliver a line and vanish, even though the scene never shifts. This time it's Hanners. Her reax, even wordless, to whatever Faye's trying to do to Elliott would have added to this episode. Instead, it looks like she ran off; there are "camera" angles in 2042 which could have included her at least incidentally. As I said, I offer this criticism hesitantly because of Jeph's mentions on Twitter and Tumblr as to how 2042 almost didn't happen. I should also mention in fairness that I think Faye's antics in 2041, (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2041) immediately preceding, are a good example of how to do what I'm talking about ... And Jeph handled it particularly well in one strip, (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1831) post-"Dorapocalypse," in which the gang plus Veronica are walking along and encounter Sven. Hanners' background reax (and Tai's), though only incidental to the action, help make that strip.

EDIT: Then again, maybe we'll find out in 2043 that Hanners DID run off, still thinking Elliott is a knife killer or something. Or not. :?

I really hope he doesn't.  It'd be nice for them to part on a good note, but for Marten to invite him along would be well overstepping his boundaries.  After all, she invited him to have a good time; inviting someone likely to cause drama would just be wrong.
Eh, I don't think it'd cause much drama.

I do have a horrid suspicion of what might cause drama at the dance-place, but I'm keeping my mouth shut because I really hope it doesn't happen.
Let's get it out of the way: I suspect your horrid suspicion would involve Padma and Marten making teh kisses in front of Elliot.

EDIT: And I suspect Hanners is frozen in her tracks watching Faye try to "attack" Elliot.

Of course Harrison Ford didn't do all the action scenes in the Indiana Jones films.  Everyone knows Han Solo just did those movies for extra money during a recession in the smuggling trade.

For comic #2043...

1. Aw, guess Elliot was not there to meet up for dancing :-( .

2. Is that supposed to be our yet unnamed "neck-scar dude" from The Secret Bakery next to Padma in panel #2?

3. Padma in panel #3 looks great art-wise.  And Padma also looks good with her longer hair-down.  Though I still favor the hair-up look.

4. @pwhodges...  I am pretty sure Faye's glasses are broken, looking at how the glasses' halves are angling outward like that upon impact.  Poor Faye, looks like she needs a new pair of glasses now.  Also traded in her drunk bubbles for dazed stars.  The look on her punched face made me laugh, though.

5. Perhaps I am overthinking (or more likely brain-numb thinking) this, but I think it is a pretty clever way to induce a change in Faye's look too, since we have been seeing lots of character looks' changes in recent.  Perhaps Faye will get a non-square glasses this time around...?

6. Hanners at the ready with pepper-spray also made me laugh.  And apparrently Jeph's favorite panel draw too.

7. I will never tire of Dune references in this web-comic.  Long live the Fighters!

8. Funny sign in the background.

NO

- Loitering
- Skateboarding
- Puking
- Peeing
- Fucking <= (aw, no "fun" in a public alley after dancing? disappointing)

- thanks!

9. @TheoGB...  The Faye & Padma fight-gag started back at Number 1857: An Auspicious Meeting (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1857), continued in Number 1928: Is that Krav Maga? (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1928), and now here in #2043.  The fight-gag between them is to show Faye & Padma's friendly rivalry (with leanings more towards the "friend" part) with each other, giving our southern punching belle someone to relate to easily by nature.

Archive Jockey, away!  *flies off leaving a rainbow flight (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwL_b6tlT_8) exhaust trail*

Or not. :?
I guess today's last panel has healed your soul. :)

Hm... first episode of Rorouni Kenshin comes to mind. With Kaoru pulling something very similar.

My thoughts:
Judging by the angle of the individual glasses in panel 4, those spectacles are definitely unusable for the remainder of the evening.

Padma is not only rude for punching Faye, she's also rude for not even saying hello before doing it. (I mean, come on!)

Hanner's expression in the last panel made my day. Immensely well done.

Padma = Elisa Maza?

Starting an evening on such an embarassing note doesn't necessarily ruin it. We might still get to see some dancing. Don't give up hope!

Well, Padma is rocking that dress and with the hair done but OW. I remembered their first meeting and sparring as soon as I saw the comic but still, full force punch to the face seems silly even if you're expecting to be blocked. Faye's glasses look very much broken, if her nose isn't too. Seems she's popper the drunk bubbles too.

That does look like Scarneck guy, maybe we'll find out his name.

Faye took a high-velocity fist to the nose. Said nose will at least be bloodied by that impact, and most likely broken. That'll mean a trip to the emergency room, and Faye's in no condition to go by herself. So ends Marten's evening.

What did I tell you about not giving up hope? What part of keeping the faith doest thou not getteth? xD
(And I know, I know its unlikely ... still ... I went iceskating with a couple of friends once. My then girlfriend fell and cracked her chin on the ice. We had to call an ambulance. The two of us drove to the hospital, she got stitches. We went back to our friends after that and still had a fun night drinking and cracking wise about it. :-D)

When my Uncle Ed was a kid, one of his buddies dared him to put hi finger on a rock and let him hit it with a hammer.

Ed put his finger on the rock, and his buddy hit it with a hammer.

The guy asked him why he didn't move it and Ed said "I didn't think you were really going to hit it! Why did you hit it!?!?"

His buddy said "I thought you were gonna move!!!!!"

Ed lived the rest of life with nine fingers and one stump.

Ouch! Poor Faye... And queue Marten feeling guilty that he told her she couldn't use any violence tonight.

Still, this gives them some time together while they wait at the hospital. Hopefully Marten will be able to get out of Faye why she was drinking (so early) in the first place.
I wonder if Padma will come along as well, because she feels/is guilty for hitting her...

As for the shirt-color and lighting change in the last panel, I say it's because Padma's sudden movement triggered a motion sensor, lighting up the whole corner.  :-)

Only Faye was the drunken, Padma was the boxing.

good GRIEF can't Marten catch a break with a nice night dancing with a rather hot looking chick?  Sheesh...

It has been established that Padma suffers from incidences of heightened density. This has to be one of those where it just goes click:brain_offline.

I wonder why that is. She doesn't usually seem that socially awkward.

Padma hit her so hard her shirt changed color.

...You know, I didn't even notice this until you mentioned it and I fired up WhatColor.

Sure enough, Faye's shirt in panels 1 & 2 = #445863; In panel 4 = #007272.

Hmm. The change may be due to the fact they are now in a relatively well lit area in comparison to the street scene of the first panel.
The change in Faye's shirt color may be due to the fact that light is coming in from a different angle, when she is lying in the ground.
Some tl;dr; (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambertian_reflectance)

Edit: OTOH that would not explain the change in the color of the building walls from panel two to panel four.  :psyduck:

Wild Padma uses Mach Punch!! It's super effective!!

So... What type is Faye, then? She's certainly not Normal!  :-P Let's see... Steel, Rock, Ice or Dark? I vote for Ice/Dark dual combo!

No, she's got to be Dark/Steel. Or maybe Dark/Fighting: either way, it would be awesome to see. :-D

Hmmm... If the's Dark, or even just part Dark, she'll be immune to Hannelore (who is clearly Psychic (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2036))...  :-D

I'm surprised no one has mentioned another reason why Padma shouldn't be fighting in that dress:  She might flash someone.  In the third panel it almost looks like she lept in the air to deliver her punch, which could have given Marten a glimpse of her panties.

Interesting to see Padma's clothes have a theme.  Her dress has a similar pattern to the one she was wearing when she first met Momo and invited Marten on the hike(starting at 2009), although in a different colour.

Let's not forget her signature move, Future Sight (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1393).  Also, even though I'm pretty sure that Hanners isn't part Fighting (I'm guessing Psychic/Ice myself), we do have evidence that suggests she knows at least one decent Fighting type move in order to trump Faye just in case she ever snaps and goes on a killing spree (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1604).

As for the shirt-color and lighting change in the last panel, I say it's because Padma's sudden movement triggered a motion sensor, lighting up the whole corner.  :-)
Was my first guess... but there already seems to be one source of light with distribution similar to that of your average motion sensor triggered door light... even in the panels preceeding the last one.

And also Padma's punch would've had to have triggered an entire array of lights (in a very wide circle around the gang) to bring forth that amount of lucidity...

I'm surprised no one has mentioned another reason why Padma shouldn't be fighting in that dress:  She might flash someone.  In the third panel it almost looks like she lept in the air to deliver her punch, which could have given Marten a glimpse of her panties.
I doubt he would be looking that way in any efficient angle to see anything even remotely worth seeing ... at that exact right moment.
Reflex dictates us to look at things moving toward us, he'd more likely be watching Padma's fist.

Why is everyone so obsessed with the character's pants/panties lately? :-D

That was my first thought, too. Even drunk, I would have figured Faye to be one to at least block. Or attempt to, at any rate.

When I practiced kung fu back in the long, long-ago I was on the receiving end of one of these. Sparring and my partner punched towards my face. I thought he was feinting to get me to raise my hands so he could kick me in the gut so I didn't fall for it. No sir. Unfortunately he wasn't feinting and I had a nice big red welt on my forehead for about a week. On the plus side I learned that I can take a punch to the face and not even wobble. Hooray for Irish heritage!

Seriously though given the coffee-shop-fu match where these two first met each other I don't think Padma's "greeting" was super out of line and if Faye had been sober I don't think it would have been a thing.

Indeed.  Marten no longer has health insurance to buy a new pair this time.   :-(

Everyone in the comic should have health insurance. Faye works for a business with less than 50 employees, so she can get subsidized insurance if CoD doesn't offer anything. Whether optical care is covered under her plan has yet to be determined.

That is unless the MA healthcare reform didn't happen in the comic universe. If that's the case, Faye's stuck buying another pair of frames out of pocket or taking Padma to small claims and getting her to pay for them.

Anyway, glad to see that the incident didn't throw off their plans for dancing. And props to Faye to come forward about the stuff at the train station. All Marten has to do now is try to keep a straight face ('grabitas' indeed) and try to get her to relativate the whole thing. For comic #2044...

1. Aw, I hope this does not spoil any friendship between Faye & Padma.  I think the two have a pretty good dynamic going, not just for fighting ability.

2. It does indeed look like DJ Tai Fighter in the background of panel #2.  And probably will be worth a few strips along this story-arc if it is.

3. Hurrah for Hannelore patchworking Faye's glasses, but as most have correctly expected, our Southern Punching Belle will need a replacement pair.  As I said earlier, I think this would be a good oppurtunity for Jeph to experiment with a change to Faye's look (assuming he has not planned all this in order to).  I could see Faye with round or oval glasses, though I imagine her square glasses are simply easier to draw.

4. Guy in the background of panel #4 definitely has made some mistakes.  The kind of mistakes I am certain Jeph and many others like us never hope to make again :-( .

5. And just for completeness...  (stuffy-sounding) "grabitas" likely means "gravitas", which defines as: "Dignity, seriousness, or solemnity of manner."  Or in Faye's case, lack of it at the moment.

6. @jwhouk...  /gasp.  How dare you mimic my ease-of-quote posting style!  Have at you, sir!  /whitegloveslap  [just kidding, of course.  works well for these kind of threads, oui? :-D ]

7. @Soulsynger...  ( /fistbump for the ponytail thing too, by the way)

 - Frink: Yes, alright, yes, in episode AG04-"

Why did the bar behind Faye and Marten spontaneously change into a DJ setup table in panel 2? °-o
(and no, I don't care about the obvious explanations... the change of viewing angle between panels 1 and 2 is not great enough to provide insight into an entirely different area.)

There is dimensional mischief going on here and I won't stand for it! *grumble, cross arms*

I have my doubts on it being Tai.  I admit it does look an awful lot like her, but I would like to think she would've noticed Faye walking in with a bloody nose and Marten and Hanners in tow.  It's possible though, as she could be distracted.  I suppose we'll find out for sure tomorrow.

Actually the change in viewing angle is enough. All you have to assume is that Marten moved a bit backward, which is a very reasonable assumption, as he likes Padma and thus tends to follow her movements as long as he is focussed on her.

And if he would NOT have moved, Hanners would have to sit in the foreground.

Dont ask me to explain what happends in the background of the third and fourth picture, though. Only explanation I could offer for that is that the round table they are using is actually rotating, as is the ground their chairs is resting on ...

Sheesh, nitpickers.

The bar is on the north end of the room, with the door in the corner.  In the northwest, there is a dart board and blackboard.  West side of the room is the DJ setup (Saturday, Lady Gaga making an appearance? Friday, Deathmole?).

Panel 1: camera is at pointed NNW
Panel 2: camera is in Hanners' lap, pointed W. Padma heading to bar.
Panel 3 and 4: camera over Hanners' shoulder, pointed NW.  Hanners is simply out-of-shot in 4.
Panel 5: camera pointing NW.

...what am I DOING.

I ported the BCPL compiler to my Varian system because I was fed up with writing everything in assembly code and the incomplete Fortran compiler we had was utterly pathetic.  I also extended my version of BCPL with some Algol-68-like syntax (but not semantics).  Later I ported my extended BCPL to Norsk Data computers, where I used it to write routines for imaging floppies, and one for repairing damaged floppy directories.

I believe I've mentioned before that I wrote one commercial program directly in hex - i.e. I had to assemble it by hand.  I might not have mentioned that I had to use B-G instead of A-F, because the hardware loader that read hex from the Teletype was severely limited! - I still have to think carefully when using hex to this day.

Oh you little rascal...
How does that make me a rascal? it seemed perfectly logical to me, Tai leads a very different life than the rest of the gang. And she only started going to CoD when she met Marten, she has to get coffee elsewhere did she not? I would just assume that it was The Secret Bakery, both those places seem to be the most popular places to go in their city.
But then again I could be just being ridiculous, that is entirely possibly. I tend to do that.

No, it's a "running gag" here on the boards that we treat any sort of "pairings" with kid gloves, lest we anger the gods themselves. So tread lightly.

Actually, I can't help but notice that the "running gag" around here seems to be to skirt being moderated for posts about "shipping" or "crack pairings" or whatever by making a post about how other people are doing it (when they weren't), or are surely about to do it; instead of making the observation directly.

For example, the "you little rascal" post quoted above, or delighted exclamations of "let the ships sail", or similar.

It's completely transparent, in case you're wondering. And it's getting a little old.

And the less said about some of the posts on the filler comic earlier this week, the better. They made me start to wonder what I was doing around here.

- Padma! Don't you go poking dead things. Who knows where he's been?

Anyone else recall self-directed sarcasm being another of Faye's coping mechanism? Can't find the comic about it but she said something about humor helping her with her insecurities. My guess is, this thing is far from over even after Marten reassuring her.

No one would be over something like that after just the reassurance of a friend. Faye is in a vulnerable place right now.... Hanging out with her friends, dancing, etc, should be able to take her mind off it for tonight. After a good night sleep things in her head should have settled down some more so she can think it over without panicking.
At least, that's what I hope for her sake.

Also, love the legwarmers on Hanners.  :-)

Faye's comments reminded me of the comic where Marten ironically said that a person would have to be crazy to get involved with a roomate (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1637).  Same kind of self-referential humor.

Which only shows how well they go together.  Or perhaps how much of Jeph's sense of humor bleeds out through his primary characters...

And yes, I thought Tai was goggling about a request of Hanner's.

You're doing fine.  Most of human life involves people being friends and knowing each other, so of course these are not anything to be avoided or skirted round.

Shipping is a clearly distinct matter, described elsewhere, and only those who are so in thrall to their hormones that they get worked up seeing a knife and fork together in a table-setting might get confused.

Abandon shipping!

For comic #2045...

1. Nice legwarmers.  Nice legwarmers, indeed :-) .

2. Guess that is indeed Tai.  Unless Hanners just said, "You know, I have a friend who looks just like you and is also a Disc Jockey...."  Perhaps we will see a comic with Tai & Hannelore come next week to lighten the gravitas of Faye's coping.

3. Is it me, or is Faye's response in panel #2 smaller to indicate a small voice?  "I said I loved him too."  Or perhaps it is just text crowding the speech-bubble?

4. Having random people (even hot women) poke, molest, steal from, or draw on you while passed out drunk is one of the major reasons  I do not miss drinking.  At all.

5. @Carl-E... I thought the same thing with background panel #1 as well

6. Pff, who cares about the knife & fork.  Now the dish & spoon, I think they got something going on there.  But the rest of the tableware families would never approve of a union between the two...

Even if Faye does react in the way she seems afraid of, it is not the end of the world... right? Not every relationship needs to (or can)  last forever. She's come a long way with Angus, that progress is something to be happy about even if it does end. Maybe with the right person she wouldn't feel so afraid of commitment, and the fact that she does right now could be a sign that Angus is not the one.

My guess is Hanners is telling Tai why Faye was all bloody and such.

Or she's aghast at the thought of the Jennifer Beals look making a come-back.
I kinda like that one better, can I change my opinion?

Well, it could be Hanners telling Tai why Faye is all bloody and such, but Tai is too distracted by the thought of the Jennifer Beals look making a comeback. :)

I thought the Secret Bakery was close to Smif.

Would Tai have already known about the gang going to the party? I'm assuming that the invitation was made during the week on one of Marten's lunchhours, would he have not brought it up with her?

Have Tai and Padma met yet (in a strip)? I can't think of any strip featuring both of them, so was Tai just calling her "a hot-ass lady" based on third-person opinions?

Well, it's entirely plausible that Tai knows about her (as the hot Indian barista over at tSB), or that she based her assessment on whatever Marten has told her. Then again, I would surprised if Tai hasn't visited tSB on a couple of occasions.

Tai's reaction to Hanners was "interesting" still not sure what's going on, but hell this is the internet, we can speculate.

And Padma, don't poke the sleeping bear!  Gods above, does no one exercise the least amount of restraint?

Panel 2: camera is in Hanners' lap, pointed W. Padma heading to bar.
Panel 3 and 4: camera over Hanners' shoulder, pointed NW.  Hanners is simply out-of-shot in 4.

Maybe she got teased about her attire, and her comeback was kinda scary (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1753)?

And Tai is looking shocked because Hanners just told her that Combichrist is her favourite band, and requested a bunch of Aggrotech tracks.

There have been some dedicated attempts to pin down the QC timeline by people even nerdier than me. People have gone so far as to track hair growth. There are references in the wiki.

These attempts run into the problem that Jeph is not working to a specific calendar in the QC world and apparently doesn't want to.

One of the arguments that QC isn't real is that unlikely things happen in the name of humor. That could also be used as an argument that our world isn't real.
Title: Re: WCDT 2041-2045; Oct. 24-28 2011

There's the theory that if the forum ever figures out wat's going to happen in QC, the QCverse will be repaced by something even more beyond the forum's ability to predict. Then there's the theory that Jeph does that about once a week.

Don't panic.

PS: Monday (our time) would be a great time for the guy at the bar to pop up and yell BOO!

Nah, I think we'll find out that we are the Matrix, and QCverse is real

Then there is a definite flaw in this Matrix, as the QCverse is way more appealing than "RL".

Also, is it sadistic if I expect Padma to have a black eye on Monday, because the drunk guy got startled and lashed out?

Don't panic.
as long as we're paraphrasing Douglas Adams

"I refuse to prove that I exist," says Jeph, "for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing."

"But," says Marten, "The recurring background presence of Sweet Tits is a dead giveaway, isn't it? She cannot be there by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED."

"Shitcock." says Jeph, "Just for that, you'll have no long-term happiness in this comic"  and Padma promptly vanishes in a puff of Photoshop keymappings.

ok, so that sounded better in my head
