Title: Breaking Bad Thread

I watched the first three seasons at a rate of three or four episodes a night and I was very surprised that I liked it. Every time I started getting bored of it, the thing would pull me in with one of those ridiculous cliffhangers. Definitely one of the best dramas in a long, long time. It did take a while to stop seeing White as Hal from Malcom in the Middle.

No, Walter won't survive (unless they decide to make another season after the "final" season...) The way I see it, there are four possible endings:
1) Walter dies of cancer (this is the closest that the show would be able to get to a "Walt gets away with it" ending)
2) Mike comes back from Mexico and kills Walter (he has all the reason in the world, after all...)
3) Jesse kills Walt (perhaps after finding out about how Jane died, or about what happened at the end of season 4)
4) Hank arrests or kills Walt (Hank has been treated pretty badly throughout the show. This would throw him a bone at the end of the show, sort of, in that he finally catches Heisenberg).

Then again, I could be, and likely am, entirely wrong. I have no knowledge of the future. :psyduck:

While I agree, there's always complications with everything

1) Likely, but most obvious, besides he's been in remission since the end of season one
2) Mike has no more employer so there's no more loyalty Mike has to worry about, if anything he's been freed of obligations, the only thing I can think he'd be pissed about is being stranded in Mexico
3) Another likely but obvious outcome
4) I think Hank would get himself killed before he let's Hank take him to jail, so he might end up another Pablo.

My best guess is Walt would suicide by cops, although I don't know the future either, and I'm starting to think this Bandicoot is fucking with me.

Of course, I think it's completely ridiculous and altogether too money-grubbing for my taste that the network decided to split the final 16 episodes in half and show them a whole fucking year apart, but with Breaking Bad I'll take whatever I can get.

I could try to guess the future based on the future-Walt scene in the beginning of episode 1, but considering what they did with the scenes in season 2, any guess is 100% likely to be wrong.

One thing I'm thinking of, though, is who outside the drug community knows Walt's secret? Jesse's counselor could probably guess based on the information he has, but he has no solid evidence. Skyler's lawyer knows everything she knew in season 3, but can't reveal it due to attorney-client privilege. Gretchen Schwartz has reason to suspect Walter, but again no evidence (all she really knows is that he was getting money from somewhere and pretending it came from her). Any others I'm missing?

The only other one I can think who might suspect is Hank (who wouldn't let on till he had all the evidence) Other than that all I can think of is the nursing home, who might've spotted Walter coming and going before the blast.

the gun in the bag I knew what was going to happen as well. Actually, I've been saying since episode one of the season that Mike definitely had it coming before the end. It's sad, though! Mike was such a great character so this situation is making it really, really tough to root for Walt. But I think that's partly the point.

This half-season is just confirming the obvious: Breaking Bad remains the best show on TV by a comfortable margin

When I saw the scene in the DEA office where Walt finds out the lawyer was going to turn in Mike, I realized Walt was going to kill someone. At first I thought it would be the lawyer, but I realized that Walt doesn't know the lawyer, so it had to be Mike.

I'm probably going to wait until 5 is over before I start watching. I've gotten spoiled by watching shows with no interruptions, and a cliffhanger literally only takes about 30 seconds to clear up (as long as it takes me to start the next episode).

But yes, this is damn good television. There are very few series that I like anymore, and it has to be pretty remarkable for me to even notice it on TV - this one goes waaaaay above and beyond that.

On that note, I REALLY don't want to wait 10 months to see more. I realize that Vince Gilligan basically demanded that AMC let him do it this way and that it's for creative reasons and that, ultimately, it's for the good of the show. But god dammit I'm impatient at the best of times and BB really knows how to end on crazy cliff hangers (this most recent episode as an prime example).

I'm guessing the machine gun is for a confrontation with Meth Damon and his crew. At first I thought is would be for Hank but not any more

With the call between Hank and Marie, there's no way Hank is getting out alive. If a character gives an "I love you" call to his wife and then immediately gets into a shootout, he's as good as dead.

Honestly, as soon as Walt hung up, the obvious thing to happen would be they showed up anyway and killed every non-Walt person there. They did show up, and they started shooting, but nobody was dead yet when the episode ended. Yeah, Hank's probably dead, but this show rarely does what's obvious, and Hank has a pretty good record in shootouts and surviving against odds. So in other words...who knows? We'll find out next week.

For the shootout, I see two possibilities:
1) Hank survives but is wounded and thus can't prevent the Nazis from taking Walt (and possibly Jesse), and Gomie dies. I'm thinking at this point this may be the most likely outcome. They're definitely pointing hard toward Hank dying, but there are still three episodes left, and it seems too soon to kill him off just yet. If this is the outcome, this makes the "Walt blames the whole thing on Hank" scenario more of a problem for Hank, because he has to somehow explain Gomie getting killed and him getting injured in a shootout when he has nobody in custody and little to show for it.
2) Hank and Gomie both die, and the Nazis take both Walt and Jesse. I don't see any scenario where both Jesse and Hank die, though.

Of course, as usual, any analysis I have of this show is rectally derived.

When the knife fight happened I was sure either Skyler or Walt Jr. were going to get stabbed, but not necessarily die. Also agreed on Jesse (I think that's how his name is spelt?)
I'm really looking forward to the last two episodes and how all this is going to be wraped up. My assumption on what the machine gun is for: Revenge on Jack and the other nazis for killing Hank and Gomez.

Yeah, those are the only people he has to deal with that would require that kind of firepower. Perhaps the ricin is to do himself in. He might take it just before going to confront the Nazis as at that point he will really have nothing left to loose and that just reinforces the fact that there is no where else for him to go after that.

Thinking about it, I've convinced myself that Skyler is going to die, most likely in the next episode. Now that Walt has taken the disappearing wagon, the DEA and Jack are both going to want to find some way to flush him out. I'm guessing even with Walt's attempt to clear Skyler of fault, the DEA is still going to arrest her for the money laundering. They'll send her to the local womens' jail... where Jack most likely has connections. Everything Jack has done in the past couple episodes has been to exploit Walt's weaknesses, and he knows Walt has a big weakness for his family. They kill Skyler to flush out Walt, and he comes out of hiding with an M60...

Why would Jack want to flush Walt out? He already got roughly 70 million out of him, they don't need him anymore. Maybe for cooking and making even more money, but they got Jesse and while he's not as good as Walt, he'll be good enough to improve their product, provided he cooperates.

This show's characters are basically all irredeemable. I am enjoying that Walt is finally starting to show some regret after he's alienated Flynn. And the killing of Brock's mum whose name I never learned was so ruthless that I laughed at it.

So I've been thinkin'... this may be entering "epileptic tree" territory, but how do we know the disappearer guy is telling the truth about Skyler? The last we see of her in the episode is at the meeting with the DEA. From the phone call Walt places later, we know that Flynn is still attending the same high school, and that Marie is apparently still in contact with him (otherwise he would have caught on before Walt got him on the phone), but that doesn't tell us anything about Skyler. Plus, there's the scene where Walt asks the disappearer guy to give the money to Skyler after Walt dies, and his response is, "if I tell you yes, will you believe me?"

I doubt this is the case, but seems like an interesting possibility...

Seriously, I'm really impressed with how they managed to both make the end of this show a bit of wish fulfillment of seeing Todd and the crew get their come uppance, Walt's family will be taken care of monetarily, Jesse surviving but also still not backing down from the fact that Walt, even in the point where I'm sure the really creepy people who idolize Walt will think he's been absolved, the fact that he is content and still seems to think it was all worth it... it just goes to show how horrible and bitter Walt really was, even in the end. No pretending that anyone Walt ever came in contact with wasn't completely shattered by his presence in their life. Walt was the worst thing that ever happened to every single person he ever knew, including himself.

It was... perfect.

I really liked the last episode but I would've liked some kind of epilogue. Although I crave total closure and a, "Here's everybody five years later..." probably wouldn't have worked at all.

I just felt it was a bit of an anti-climactic ending.

Walt just gets killed by a ricochet? Some comeuppance that is.
Jesse has basically done nothing for what, six episodes? And then he just drives away. He's still a hugely wanted man by the police, isn't he? Where the fuck is he going, if anywhere?
Saul just disappeared a few episodes ago and never came back. Walt Jnr's last appearance in the entire series as a long-distance shot with no lines.
I just expected more. I felt the episode was a bit boring, and I assumed it was just tension, building to something, and I didn't think that something was up to much.

I just think the show would have been better off ending after season 4.

Actually, why would Jesse be wanted at all? Hank's the one who caught him trying to burn the house down, and I'm pretty sure only Hank and Gomez knew anything that could put Jesse away, as far as the other cops are concerned Jesse was just Hank getting caught up in something. As for Saul, well...he's not Saul anymore. As for the lack of comeuppance, well...yeah, there wasn't any. Walt won.

Could be long after the fact. A couple weeks after is the by far the shortest I've been behind to watch a finale in the last few years. Although like I said, I only started the show from the start a few months ago.

I didn't go into the thread at all while I was still watching the show. Maybe warn in the OP that this thread is full of spoilers and we can cut down on the tags. Although it is kind of amusing to look through the pages and see all the tags.

Walter was a pretty horrible individual by the time it was all over. I seem to recall Vince Gilligan telling someone that THAT was the point; that by the end of the series no one would be able to make any excuses for his character, unlike how easy it was in the beginning (in large part due to his circumstances and poor handling of the choices laid before him due to desperation, lack of knowledge/information about actually being a criminal). In that aspect, yeah, they definitely pulled it off.

Skylar allowing him to see his daughter one last time was touching - she definitely realized that he didn't intend to come back.

Walt's confession to Skylar was good, finally admitting that his intentions were never quite as noble as he would have liked for them to be.

All in all, I really only had the one complaint, and that was Jesse's ending - but to be honest, I couldn't call it unrealistic. How the hell would a person react after being imprisoned for so long, and made to do the one thing he no longer wants to ever do again? Probably a lot like he did.

Yeah that wasn't the part that bothered me. It was basically everything after that, specifically his very last scene. But as for what you pointed out, yes, very satisfying.

Me, and my now deceased car, are in several episodes of the show. Why wasn't I paid? Also, I love the incongruity of the scenes in the show. They start driving down one street, take a right turn and are suddenly on the other side of town. Also, all the open lots and deserts they use? The back lots of some of the areas they filmed in.
