Greetings denizens of CHATTER. I bring to you all a chance to join a game known as Mafia.
What is Mafia you ask? It is a game primarily composed of two factions, the village, the majority who do not know their own members, and the mafia, the minority who know their own members. The mafia aim to kill villagers during the night until only their own remain. Meanwhile, the villagers vote on who to lynch during the day in order to weed out the mafia scum. Lynches occur when over half the players vote on a target.
Though the mafia may have the ability to kill a villager once a night, some villagers gets roles of their own whether it be discerning the role of another person or the ability to protect a fellow player from getting killed.
The game I plan on hosting will hold 14 players and will begin when the slots are filled.
What do you say? Shall we play a game?

I don't get it at all but if there's lynchings I'm in!
-
It's actually pretty fun and not that hard to pick up.
That said, I'm not playing. :-P
-
I played it once, it was pretty cool
That said, I'm in
-
I'm in.
-
Ooo! Pick me! Pick me! I love this game.
-
Count me in.
-
I have no idea how to play, but hey, sign me up.
-
I guess we're playing in the forum? Do we need to check in at any particular frequency?
Sounds like fun...
-
I'd play, if that's cool (it's my experience on other forums that people with fewer posts than fingers don't tend to stick around long enough for a Mafia game, but I promise not to flake). I love this game so much.
-
i'm up for it if that's cool.

We would indeed be playing in the forum! After everyone is signed up, I'll open a new thread specifically to play the game. Mafia is divided into day and night, but since 12 hours is a bit harsh, "day" would last 48 hours, so everyone can debate who to lynch, while "night" would be 24 hours, so people can send in their actions for the night.
-
Sure. Screw it.
-
I'll play!
-
Sure. Screw it.
Please do!

-
Bah, fine. I'm in.
-
As long as you use the messenger system to get responses from the Mafia/ Police/ Doctor/ Jesus, etc, this game should work superbly! Count me in.
-
Only two more to go!
-
Are you counting me? 'cause I'm more intrigued than my initial post sounded -
Count me in.
-
If there's room, I'm down
-
Minimum number achieved! Expect the official Mafia game thread to be launched later today. Until then, if you still want to join the fun, post on here and declare your interest!
-
Better late than never! Mafia game has been launched. All roles have received a PM. If you did not get a PM, you're a regular villager.
-
Damn, I miss playing this back on my old forum. I'll just watch nostalgically and enjoy from the sidelines, if that's okay. :)
-
That's fine. Can we lynch you anyway if we get bored?
-
Only if it's creative. :P
-
I hope you all will take into consideration what I was saying before I was murdered! Considering I said a lot and it was probably why I was killed.
Also I'm going to hazard a guess that the mafia thought I was the cop. FOOLED YOU!
-
I imagine the joke is on you, what with you being dead and all...
By the way, now that you're on the other side, could you please water that plant I never watered?
-
Not really. I honestly like pretending I'm a little crazy paranoid in these things and being dead can just make you all even more paranoid. MWAHAHAHA!
And if I can't be bothered to remember to water plants when I'm alive, I most certainly won't now that I'm dead!
-
pretending I'm a little crazy
I'm firmly of the belief that everyone on this forum is completely and utterly nuts.
-
So what I learned is that acting like a fucking murderous lunatic is not a good way to go.
-
And the "paranoid mayor" doesn't go down too well either, I've noticed..
-
I did love this game though and want to play a new game immediately after this.

Thank you for noticing.
-
As if that's been made so difficult
-
I would have recommended a stronger prescription on his glasses if he didn't notice. :P
-
"Nice try, officer :-D"
Bahahahaha you's all suckas
-
Sorry for doubting you, Pat.
-
You were all murdering psychopaths! Stringing up innocent people!
Also, Patrick, can I have your police badge now that you've been lynched?
-
I am not a psychopath. I actually didn't kill anybody at all. Patrick survived the only vote I made, so WHATEVER.
-
Fair enough, we'll get a stone angel for you :-P
-
Here you go!

I was thinking more along the lines of a weeping angel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weeping_Angel). You know, just in case any of the crazies come and decide to mess with my grave.
Edit: Lols, you beat me to it!
-
The cop and the don in the same day? Oh heavenly almighty fuck this escalated quickly
-
They were running out of villagers...
-
I'm glad the corpses liked the game! I'm going to set up a new game after this one ends. I'm aiming for 18 effectives, as it lets us play a more complex version of the game!
-
And now the remaining members of the village are preparing to kill yet another innocent person. Duh, guys, and or hello.
Also Carl, I never expected you to be the supreme evil, so well done!

Ooo, yay! I died much too quickly and can't wait to play again.
-
The GM in me is saying "noooooo, metagaming!" But the player in me is saying "Oooh, tell me MORE!" It is my eternal dilemma.
Or maybe we just all start with oujia boards in our inventories?
-
I'd like to try this again. The GM fuck-up with votes kind of soured this round for me (sorry if that comes across as aggressive, I'm just irritated by it)

Woo! It looked fun.

To be fair, I didn't notice it either. Also I didn't know changing votes was even allowed...
-
yeah but
noticing that sort of thing isn't your job :-P
-
I hope another round is held, this is highly entertaining, and I'd like to be a part of it!
-
i'd totally be up for another round. but i'm also willing to sit the next one out and let other people have a chance if there's too many people wanting in.
-
Adding more people in would just make the game longer and more interesting! I'm in on the next round~ :-D
-

To be fair, you DID vote for Patrick first. Then you changed it to that bugger idontunderstand. Then back to Patrick again as far as I know. So I wouldn't say he fucked up that bad.
-
I thought changing votes wasn't allowed either, or I wouldn't have held back so often.
-
I don't think I've ever played or gm'd a game where changing votes was allowed. I mean, you can speculate by name as much as you want, but once you vote, your vote is cast and that's that. It's too confusing to keep track of votes if people are allowed to change their minds, even when the game is played in person.
-
I've always played a game where you can change votes. However, everyone was usually very good about bolding "Lynch <user>" at the bottom of their message. Dropping their vote change in the middle of a mass of text is fairly easy to miss.
Either way, what we play depends on how many sign up. I'm really shooting for 18.
-
Sounds like voting rules just need to be fairly explicit so that there's zero confusion as to who is doing what and what everyone can do in the first place. I think it's clear everyone has had different mafia rule experiences.
Also, I'd love to join next game. It's been too long since my last forum mafia game. Last mafia-like game I played was a game of The Resistence (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Resistance_(party_game)), and holy crap did that leave a bad, metaphorical taste in my mouth. :meh:
Edit: Despite my last game, The Resistence is usually a wonderful little game if you want to play mafia with some hard facts and probability thrown into the game so that you're not always feeling like you have to rely on your guts (though there's still plenty of that).
-
Sign me up for the next game anyway. This one was a load of fun.
-
I'm definitely up for another round.
-
Count me in, you don't know what a tickle I got when this goofy lot went and lynched my 5-0 ass
-
Good to know someone got off from it.. I'm getting a little tingly now myself..
-
I don't see suicides in games often.
I just got a contract for an online course - I need to see the details before I commit to another game!
-
There's only four people left. Two mafia, one insane cop and one vigilante...
well, things have just gotten quite interesting, haven't they?
-
You guys are fraked!
-
glad it's not my problem anymore.
-
Ah, good old eternal damnation for plotting out and executing the bloody murders of three townsfolk by their own hands... I feel accomplished.
Good luck bros! I'll be rooting for you!
-
I'll be smothering you!
this is how i read that okay
-
As you should. :-D
