It's FINALLY OVER!!!!
The NHL and the NHLPA have FINALLY come to an agreement, ending the months-old lockout!
-
HOCKEY!!!
It looks like we're still going to have a somewhat functioning season too :-D
I'm excited for the wings to get back at it!
-
Now we can end the back-and-forth monetary fighting, and get back to back-and-forth on-ice fighting! Yeah, broken teeth! Woohoo!
-
Bettman was just waiting for me to get home from Afghanistan to start the season. Now let's watch some hockey!
-
Hoping that whatever schedule they come up with doesn't involve St Louis in Boston, because I've developed quite the mancrush on Vladimir Tarasenko's playing from watching the KHL, and no way I can afford tickets this season.
Tentatively, this was supposed to happen on the 29th, but I know they'll retool the schedules.
The NHL coming back is brilliant. The girlfriend and I slept in late today, and upon waking up, she found the news on her iPhone and stuffed it into my face. I then did a little dance and have been wearing a Milan Lucic t-shirt all day. And her one of her Penguins hoodies.
-
Side note, a few months ago I picked up what clearly turned out to be a knockoff Bruins Winter Classic jersey, and had given it to my grandma for some sewing work (shortening the sleeves, re-sewing patches and a number). Last week she casually mentioned that she hadn't gotten around to it yet because there hasn't been hockey.
GET WORKING, BI...GRANDMA.
(I don't feel bad about getting duped, I should have paid a little bit better attention to the eBay ad. Also it was well, well below what they normally retail for. Can't complain too much for the price I paid)
-
Thank fuck, I only just got into hockey last season and I've grown to like it a lot. :D
-
It is highly probable that, given the season will only be 48-50 games, there will only be intra-conference play.
Which means no Boston vs. Saint Louis or Chicago vs. Tampa Bay.
-
Which gives me time to save up and go next season. Or go to a neutral site game and root for the Blues. The girlfriend's home is about 45 minutes outside of where the Devils play.
-
Newark, right? (You did get the memo about The Rock, right?)
-
Yeah, I'm aware. We're probably going down for the draft, as well.
-
Players started voting about 90 minutes ago as I type this. Goes on through Saturday 1/12 at 8:00 AM ET.
Unless Anonymous or some disgruntled Canadian hacker does something to the voting, I suspect the agreement will be ratified that afternoon, and camps will open Sunday. First games will be next Saturday, January 19th.
-
And of course, the season kicks off with HEY EVERYONE LOOK AT SIDNEY CROSBY ON NATIONAL TELEVISION
-
Whaddya expect them to open up with, Columbus at Nashville? They do that and they're acknowledging there's teams outside of the Northeastern United States!
-
I'm getting all my Pens hate out early before my girlfriend starts punching me.
Side note, I hate that it's a 3 PM game. Have a bunch of friends getting together for the Bruins-Rangers game at 7, but really wanted to also go to the Williams College game at 3. Whoops.

Hockey is the only real man's sport left. It is a game of violence, degradation, fistfights, and running the skinny guy into the boards.

Jon-a-than, Jon-a-than, Jon-a-than, Jon-a-than, Jon-a-than, Jon-a-than... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IguzgGx7y-8)
-
Now now, it's not that bad.
Though if memory serves, James Caan did dabble in hockey a bit at times.

I would argue rugby's corner, but from what little I've seen recently that's getting somewhat pansied up as well.

Actually, that game's apparently on NBC Sports.

NFL. MMA. K1. ... darts.
-
DARTS??????????
-
Darts is serious biznass (http://withleather.uproxx.com/2013/01/get-ready-to-get-realy-excited-about-darts), man.
-
I'm absolutely killing myself over a) missing the game and b) not starting him over Radim Vrbata on my fantasy team, but the kid I've grown fond of while watching Russian hockey, Vladimir Tarasenko, scored twice in his NHL debut for St. Louis last night.
-
A sport for real men, if you consider fat, smoking, drinking, sweating, hairy men to be real men as certain people seem to think.
-
Actually, it turns out Vrbata also scored twice. AND had an assist.
-
What's messed up: Nashville lost (albeit in the shootout) for the first time in like 20 attempts against Columbus at home.
What' REALLY messed up: the local high school hockey squad, which has lost something to the tune of 20 consecutive games in regular season play, FINALLY WON a game.
