Title: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: Aethien on 28 Feb 2013, 09:06
It looks pretty fucking badass (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-02-28-assassins-creed-4-black-flag-confirmed-by-ubisoft-has-60-minutes-exclusive-gameplay-on-ps3).

Kind of lame about the 60 minute bonus content for PS3 but whatever, that won't get me to buy a PS3 so I'll have to do without.

I'm pretty excited since the Aquila portions were the best in the last game.

Aaaaand, I think that makes AC3 the last that I'll purchase in the line.  Sorry, but a pirate's life is not for me in an AC game.

Ah well, I still have plenty of other games to get.

Why not? Seems like that's a good explanation for how the family ended up in the states. Plus, there's a lot of potential awesome and a new type of environment. It's also made by the same guys who made Brotherhood and Revelations so I've got good hopes that it'll avoid the lololpirate cliches.

First reports, at least Kotaku, are saying it's gonna be a lot like Wind Waker. Which, in my mind, makes it even better

This is the first AC game I've been pumped for in awhile, AC3 was... just not good imho. Put my pre order in though, and got a sweet map.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind playing a Creed game where they just splash the grey area all over. It'd be pretty cool.

considering the templars want to dominate and control, the map pre and post WW1 kind of shows the assassin's handy work for people to govern themselves... particularly in eastern Europe.  Hell after WW2 the british and french Empires started to break apart into their own governments (peacefully so with elections and stuff for the most part).

Hannah trying out AC:4 on the PS4

What a dull demo. I don't give a shit about shooting small mammals - show me combat, assassinations, sword fights, acrobatics. I already know the graphics are good and the game is set on tropical islands and boats.

I concur the demo in that vid was weak. Lots of stabbing and sword play to go about in game though! Woo!

I will be displeased if this game does not have Henry Rollins talking like a pirate somewhere in it.

How I play Assassin's Creed 4:
"Well, then, I confess, it is my intention to commandeer one of these ships, pick up a crew in Tortuga, raid, pillage, plunder and otherwise pilfer my weasely black guts out."
-Captain Jack Sparrow

So before the game came out Green Peace flipped shit because there is whaling in the game. I can safely say that the whaling "mini game" is absolutely disgusting and brutal. It may in fact be one of the best awareness raising devices I have EVER seen for just the concept of how terrible a practice whaling really is. It's just... ugh.

Mmmmm few things more satisfying then taken a 100 gun galleon and having the "win condition" be destroying her ensign. Standing on the top of the mast in the midst of the sea, that is some cinematic, victoriouness right there.

Oh man, the lower your wanted level option when boarding ships has the best animatic. The people are all tied up and you cut their ropes to free them, and they look so confused. One of your crew gives a guy a big hug as you shake the captain's hand. "No hard feelings mate, just wanted to blast some holes in your ship"

    Chorus:
Help me Bob I'm bully in the alley. Way, hey, bully in the alley.
Help me Bob I'm bully in the alley. Bully down in Shinbone Al.

Sally is a girl that I loved dearly, (Way, hey, bully in the alley)
Sally is a girl that I spliced nearly, (Bully down in Shinbone Al)

For seven long years I courted Sally, (Way, hey, bully in the alley)
All she did was dilly-dally, (Bully down in Shinbone Al)

I left Sal and I went a-sailing. (Way, hey, bully in the alley)
Signed on a big ship, I went a-whaling, (Bully down in Shinbone Al)

If I ever get back to her I'll marry little Sally. (Way, hey, bully in the alley)
Have six kids and live in Shinbone Alley (Bully down in Shinbone Al)

I thought I heard the old man saying, (Way, hey, bully in the alley)
One more chorus then we're belaying, (Bully down in Shinbone Al)

I was actually looking forward to this game, but AC3 kind've ruined things for me. I am wondering if all the horrible game-wrecking bugs are gone from AC4.
Title: Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: Method of Madness on 21 Dec 2013, 13:56
I liked AC3. I wasn't huge on the naval combat, which made AC4 a bit tedious for having so much of it (apparently I'm the only one), but I still liked it overall.
Title: Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: Blue Kitty on 22 Dec 2013, 08:44
I might be in the few with Method that enjoyed AC3, I especially enjoyed the hunting and the naval combat. I think we need to move back to a more vertical Assassin's Creed game instead of the horizontal ones the more recent have become.
Title: Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: GarandMarine on 22 Dec 2013, 08:59
I'm hoping for an all future AC game where you get to hop around skycrapers and make with the neckstabby.
Title: Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: blacksinow on 22 Dec 2013, 10:10
What killed it for me was the reliance of horseback riding and how linear the game was. Like having to chase someone through the woods, on a horse without having the option to say... plan out a trap. I hated how boats moved in the game which is one thing that I am apprehensive about.
Title: Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: Method of Madness on 22 Dec 2013, 18:43
I was disappointed that they didn't bother to make the character outside the game...a character. Although having
(click to show/hide)
show up was a nice touch. Yeah, the real life levels in AC3 could've been done better...much better, but the solution wasn't to remove them entirely.
Title: Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: blacksinow on 22 Dec 2013, 20:30
"Where do I go?! I could've SWORN I've been here already!" see, that was my thought in the real life sections of the game. To hear that they took them out, I was joyous.
Title: Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: Method of Madness on 22 Dec 2013, 20:36
Like I said, they should've designed them better, not removed them entirely!
Title: Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: blacksinow on 24 Dec 2013, 15:32
I really prefer the old world feel of the creed games though. But my big problem with any of them is that you start making a shit tonne of gold and nowhere to really spend it after awhile.
Title: Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: Method of Madness on 24 Dec 2013, 17:32
I never had that problem! I never made enough to buy a lot and would beat the game with early gear.
Title: Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: RedWolf4 on 25 Dec 2013, 05:54
Man, the only gear that ever made a real difference was armor. The combat has always been skill over stats, although of course early weapons always do noticeably suck.
Title: Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: blacksinow on 25 Dec 2013, 07:44
Well in this game, armor really meant nothing. But in AC2, armor boosted health and looked good.
Title: Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: GarandMarine on 25 Dec 2013, 08:49
You haven't even played AC4, so how would you know? The armor upgrades do have a visual difference and honestly the extra health bars are really nice, especially once you start raiding the Frigates and Man O Wars.
Title: Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: Method of Madness on 25 Dec 2013, 08:57
I actually got decent armor and weapons in AC4 somewhat early, it was the boat I never upgraded that much, and that made the water missions hard.
Title: Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: Blue Kitty on 25 Dec 2013, 09:10
I was surprised how early you can upgrade yourself. For most of the game I had all the pistols I could hold and all the health I could get.
Title: Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Post by: Method of Madness on 25 Dec 2013, 09:19
I never had more than three pistols but I almost never shot anyone because using swords or hidden blades was so much more fun.

I dunno, the first thing I do when I board a ship is gun down the first 4 people I see, and the animation for him doing it is great. It also makes the fight against armored enemies that much easier.

I beat the game, time to fight the Legendary Ships
