So, will the focus on Dora or Sam continue, or will it switch to a different part of the gang?
Is it just me or is the comic image broken/missing?
REAL PANTS ARE FOR SQUARES
I'm probably projecting my own experience and biases here, but Marigold appears to be depressed. Happily, she has Momo to look after her. I'd love a companion AI!
The Momo/Marigold relationship is hard to map into human terms (which may be the whole point!). Momo is acting like a mom, a kid sister, a big sister, and a close friend depending on the situation.

Momo is acting like a personal assistant to a CEO-type. Personal assistants often spend a lot of time managing their bosses - in the business world it's called "managing up" - and that's what Momo is doing. She's looking after Marigold's best interests, using whatever techniques are necessary to convince Marigold to do what she needs to do. This is clearly why Momo was matched with Marigold; Marigold needs help navigating social situations, as well as the occasional kick in the pants to get her motivated, and Momo will give her that.
this. A thousand times this.I'm probably projecting my own experience and biases here, but Marigold appears to be depressed. Happily, she has Momo to look after her. I'd love a companion AI!
Depressed? Clearly you don't understand the extent to which we night hawks loathe the morning. I've taken a swing or two at people trying to get me out of bed early and had almost no recollection of it later.
I approve of Marigold's choice of pants :-D but she should at least wash up a bit before heading out...I noticed she wears the same top she slept with, probably full of night sweat.
Why the soul patch hate?Good question ...
Both Marten and Hannelore have visited CoD in their underwear, so pajama bottoms should be juuust fine!
Wondering if our beloved author is projecting a little personal experience into the strip today?

THE HORROR!!! THE HORROR!!!
Jeph has got to start the obvious Marigold/Dale love arc somehow, I guess injecting him into Coffee of Doom would be a good way to start.
*Edit: Added the word obvious, because I didn't make it want to seem like I'm shipping, I just feel like that's what Jeph is going to do, narrative causality compels him. I mean the tsundere Anime relationship parallel is just too good to pass up for Marigold.
A CoD employee without a uterus? Inconceivable!
I hate it.
I don't want Dale working at COD. I mean, she's already got THREE employees, and is really so busy that she needs a fourth? Obviously, we have no way of knowing that, so clearly that's not what bothers me about it. It just doesn't fit that he'd work there. UUUUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHH i really don't like it. He's just a random throw-in character that no one really knows but Marigold? Why throw him into the COD mix? Why not just have him talk to Marigold and bring him in that way? Besides, it... just.... dammit, it's just not right.
Le sigh.
^this. I'm seriously hoping dora shoots him down.
I hope Dale hasn't been playing Beethoven while delivering pizza...
ISWYDT.
If he really needs the job, maybe they could use his help with..."Coffee and pastries Delivery", or getting rid of the spiders (? .Someone explain it to me.
I hope Dale hasn't been playing Beethoven while delivering pizza...
ISWYDT.
I hope Dale hasn't been playing Beethoven while delivering pizza...At least one more? Raven is still technically employed there IIRC, though on reduced hours…
I also hope he doesn't get hired at the CoD. It would feel a bit forced, I think. I mean... Dora, Fay, Hanners, Penelope, Cosette... How many baristas does Dora need?
ISWYDT.
Someone explain it to me.
And those furrin' to a more youthful culture.
It is difficult for a furriner to fully enjoy QC (and this forum) without occasionally peeking at Urban Dictionary. (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ISWYDT)
Best to bookmark it.
People, I know you aren't stoked of the thought of Dale working at Coffin of Doom, but you're missing the point:
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!
The Secret Bakery lost an employee recently. That actually would make sense.
I for one am looking forward to seeing more of Dale, and even more so Dale/Marigold if it happens. The "Dale is creepy" faction are just intolerant, or much worse observers of human nature than JJ. Dale is just clueless and over-enthusiastic about things -- an overgrown fourteen-yearold, in fact.
I don't squee.
The Secret Bakery lost an employee recently. But I don't see any of the usual suspects being quite experienced enough to carry out the duties of the day-shift manager of tSB or whatever title would best describe Padma's job. Faye possibly, but I doubt she is interested at this time with all the sculpting and such. HannerMom might like to see her daughter try out small time management, but I'm not sure Hanners would enjoy it? She might be a natural though (aided by generous amount of ativan)?
The idea that there isn't room for another person is a bit weird to me. I always wondered how she ran it with so few when there were always two people on shift for most hours (which makes sense fictionwise because its hard to have interesting work conversations without coworkers)
Someone explain it to me.I hope Dale hasn't been playing Beethoven while delivering pizza...
ISWYDT (I see what you did there).
The thing is, he isn't a compelling character yet. He's that guy who delivers pizza, is a good enough CoD customer to get secret menu privileges, and may or may not act in a creepy manner toward Marigold. And he takes video games way too seriously.
Have I missed anything, or is that pretty much the sum total of what we know about Dale?
I think he won't be hired, but he'll be hanging around just long enough to run into a slightly smelly, bed-rumpled Marigold as she gets her "morning" coffee.
Whereupon they will both embarrass themselves and each other with their bizarre flirting rituals, purple pants and glowing glasses.
The Secret Bakery lost an employee recently.
I'm still confused. Is there some connection between A Clockwork Orange and pizza?
Is the last panel calling back to this? (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1719)

I was gonna write the full sentence, but it sounds weird to me at that moment.
I think She was making a reference to this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Clockwork_Orange_(film)).*
*Probably; if that was not the case, sorry Akima.
EDIT: Now that you say it, Evangelion sounds more like it.
Oh no Storel, like...no. :psyduck:
I was thinking something more like: In the movie, they make the protagonist hear Beethoven when he's on "treatment"; then, he can't stand hearing his music again because of that.
Dale works everyday delivering Pizza, and now he can't stand it anymore.
But i bet it was an Evangelion reference :-P .
The "Ode to Joy", composed by Beethoven, is a popular song that you could hear playing in the TV series of Evangelion (not the manga). If you do hear it while reading the manga, either you or someone nearby has good taste in music or you need psychiatric evaluation.
Also, one of the charactes (Guendo Ikari) looks a lot like Dale (or the other way around) and his glasses are shining most of the time too.
We're right here.
We've been here all day.Jeph you magnificent bastard.

COMIC:DARN ! You beat me to it !
But Raven's still unaccounted for!
Freude, schöner Götterfunken,
Tochter aus Elysium,
wir betreten feuertrunken,
Strahlende, dein Heiligtum.
Deine Bande binden wieder,
was die Mode einst geteilt...

Dale works everyday delivering Pizza, and now he can't stand it anymore.Exactly so. I had in mind the aversion therapy/brainwashing scene from "A Clockwork Orange" with the stench of pizza standing in for the drugs used on Alex.
Do comic characters have a quantum existence, like Schrödinger's Cat; simultaneously present and absent until the cartoonist includes them in a panel and collapses the probability wave? This seems to be the case. "Bros, bros, bros!"
I thought Raven was in college studying physics and that's why she doesn't work at CoD anymore. I know Jeph brought her back for a summer job, but college could have started again by now.Characters are still wearing short sleeves. I'd put money down that it's still the same summer, so Raven should be around somewhere.
Hopefully we get to see more of Penelope again some time, I really like her. I have the feeling that characters become sort of boring to write when in a happy relationship, so they appear less (Penelope+Wil, Steve+Cosette). I guess I can understand that a little, but I still miss Penelope. And Wil was fun, too.Agreed. Despite her lack of screen time, Penelope is actually my favorite character.

Dora's missing a business opportunity here: Coffee of Doom Delivery. Dale delivers to your office coffee, pastries, and a cassette tape of Faye sassing you. Don't have a working cassette player? That's your problem.
Quote from: PenelopeWe're right here.Quote from: CosetteWe've been here all day.Jeph you magnificent bastard.
[slow clap]
Also, now you know where Penelope and Cosette have been all this time. Just to the right.

And he takes video games way too seriously. How much more do we know about Marigold Farmer? She's a computer geek instead of pizza deliveryperson. She's a gold farmer after all. She has poor hygiene. She takes video games even more seriously than Dale. She's been in orbit around the Earth.

I suspect it will be a long time until we see any of the Secret Bakery folks again, other than maybe Sam. Then again Amir reappeared after a long absence, so you never know. It's probably time we see Wil and Sven again.
Natasha is no more! All that remains now is the Spider Queen, tragic victim of a radioactive mutant spider robot byte that mutated her into a gestalt cyborg made of millions of tiny spiders. This wouldn't have made much difference overall, if it wasn't for her recent and sudden banishment from her new home under Coffee of Doom, which tipped her over the (very narrow) edge she was on, leading her to swear eternal vengeance on all barista-kind…
...she and Sven banged each other on a sidewalk...

...but now Jeph is transferring him from joke character (like the Bros) to cast.
Item 2: We've never heard about any of Faye's other jobs.
I just have to say that all those facial expressions are excellent. And that no self-respecting serial-killer would hold his knife like that.Definitely not. Of course, that's Faye's imagining of how a serial killer would act. Clearly Faye knows nothing about knife fighting...
bring back Padma! No, Padma served her purpose as far as Marten and the plot go. There's no reason for her to come back.
Well, he's still in the process of transfer. Until we get an explanation, I'm going to assume he's either blind and has a Geordi La Forge thing going on, or they're something similar to Google Glass....but now Jeph is transferring him from joke character (like the Bros) to cast.As long as his glasses are still shining, he's still a joke character.
...she and Sven banged each other on a sidewalk...INTO. Banged into each other.
Prepositions, people!
I was wondering if anyone else noticed that :psyduck:Maybe that commenter did it on purpose Or they wanted to stir up the shippers indirectly. Or it could be an honest typo in the last addition to a long list.
As long as his glasses are still shining, he's still a joke character.
aww
I'm still a bit disappointed that the only two things that spring to mind for most people when they hear "Beethoven" are the Ode to Joy and the beginning of the fifth symphony. Beethoven made so much great music! I'll admit, I'm a Beethoven fan, especially the sixth symphony and the "Coriolan" are amongst my favourite pieces of music at all.

I think first of Für Elise
I think of Schroeder.
Marigold, you did accept a peace offering.
You do realize that :psyduck: is exactly the sort of reaction to warm an online punster's heart.Of course. Did you think I was trying to discourage you? Also the agents were pulled back, she never said she would.
She just wanted to make sure she threw the hiss he fit. It's the biggest hiss he fit in hisstory.
The hissing could potentially be a mating call.
Dora isn't sure she has an opening.Though Marigold probably has an opening.
Fremdschämen.
One could call that a typographical error, but "H" and "K" are two keys apart

Fremdschämen.I added a new word to my vocabulary! Brought to you by the makers of schadenfreude.
I find Marigolds behavior so much weirder than Dales behavior.
Other than colour, are they not the same exact pants? Why does Momo approve of those and not the other ones?
It's also important to save some capability for being not grown up in situations where that's safe, appropriate, and fun.
I've said for a long time that maturity isn't acting serious all the time, its knowing when you need to take things seriously, and when you can be a goofball.Either my dad knows how to apply this philosophy very, very carefully, or he's still an immature prick sometimes.
