Title: Challenge my writing.
Post by: Thrillho on 03 Oct 2013, 14:06
I want to write, but I am short on inspiration and in the past forced writing exercises have helped.

So I have two requests from you, dear reader.

1. Suggest writing exercises for me so I can kick out the jams.
2. Give me a subject and I will write something about it.

Thanks in advance.

Well, you asked for it. Here is the first fiction I've written in more years than I can remember.  :psyduck:

This made me think of the Plants vs Zombies universe and what could end up happening if the plants got out of control after dealing with the zombie threat. LOVED IT!

That was awesome, and reminds me of one of my favorite writing exercises ever, though you need a few people to do it - everyone writes down a story idea they'd loathe to write - the most ridiculous idea they can come up with (mutated onions?!) - then you shuffle them all about and randomly assign them.  Then beauty happens.

Now I'm kind of itching for a writing workshop.

I'm on board with that idea.

KICK ass.  I liked it!  And it came from a direction I did not expect.  :thumbs UP:

I'm on board. Not unlike Gareth, I haven't written much in a few years, though I used to love it. I've also never written a whole story in English before, but I'd be up for it.

Maybe this will even get me to start on that story idea that's been floating around in my head for literally years...

We just had an event at the Kresge Library at my college called the "24-hour write-a-thon", and there were quite a few activities for inspiration there. One that worked well was a set of 5 bags with different pieces of a prompt; One for setting, situation, character, time period, and a mystery word. It worked rather well (I got a Lonely Gypsy in A Apartment in a Post-apocalyptic World who Lost his Reputation, and something to do with Engines)
If you can find a random generator for that, it's worth a shot :P

I am a published poet myself. I often find writing about mental disorders (I suffer from several) create the most dynamic of my poetry.

So if you are still looking for a topic try out Schizophrenia or Kleptomania and see where it takes you.
