And here you go!

EDIT: I should add, I had to go back through most of the entire archives to find each t-shirt Marigold wore. It's nothing short of amazing.

"I'll skip wearing the chemise today", said Marigold shiftlessly.

Is recommending that she wear clothes without holes in them a way of saying "Sack up, Marigold!"?

No, she's always been about roughly a half-head shorter than Marigold. Compare it to strip 2001.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to forget you're wearing a hat or other objects. Unless it gets in the way of some action (taking off headphones, trying to put on another hat) if I put on a hat in the morning I will wear it all day and forget about it. I've seen people already wearing their glasses look around for them in vain.
I completely buy that Dale would forget he has a helmet on, though he apparently is approaching this night very casually, as he didn't change the shirt he's worn all day.

I quite often forget to take off my cycling helmet when going into shops etc. I've been wondering how Dale can see if his helmet is actually a trash-can lid. I don't think I've seen one with a translucent lid/visor.

I absolutely love this strip's combination of buildup, callback-'punchline', and Marigold's complete unfazedness. Made me laugh out loud.

Marigold's attitude going from "Oh god" to "Nice helmet" demonstrates some superb pulling-yourself-togetheriness.

Bicycle helmets don't restrict your field of vision the way that thing Dale's wearing does. For me, at least, wearing something like that would be a constant annoyance, as every time I tried to glance to one side or the other I'd have to turn my whole head instead. I don't think I could forget it was on, but then Dale doesn't seem to get annoyed by much, so maybe he could. Maybe.

I have worn a hat for an entire presentation and not even realized I still had it on until someone mentioned it to me...get so fofucsed on everything else and you don't notice simple things like the feel or the impaired vision.

Here's a weird idea. Marten used to have the determination and initiative to rearrange his life and move across the country to pursue a relationship (not that it was a good idea, but it certainly wasn't passive). Did Faye break him? I don't think so, but it fits several facts.

(An idea that fits even better is that Vicky broke him).

The opportunity to leave a controlling mother (or at least very dominant) + Being young and convinced one is in love = A high probability of doing something rash and stupid.

He was broken from the start...dominatrix model mother would do that to you.

Faye just conditioned him, in many ways manipulated him into a person who now has a large group of friends who rely on him.

I don't believe his mother was controling, it was just her job. She has shown to be very loving and normal towars him,  his problems with her may be more along the lines of embarassing moments that make the usual teenage angst nothing in comparison.

It's been made very clear that our hero is A. a momma's boy and B. that she likes it that way. Not saying she doesn't love him or isn't a good mom, that's not the case. It's been made fairly clear that Ms. Reed can be a tad... over bearing. To say the least.

I saw it a while ago, so I voted for it. Sarah Palin is better as a shirt than as a politician. And she doesn't make a very good shirt.

Though I suppose before the modification, it could also be something completely different...

Momo might work toward this thing, but it seems like Marigold's even more hostile toward Dale when she has an audience, so it might be better to leave them on their own.

I could be wrong, of course, that's just how it seems to me. As though she feels obligated to demonstrate to people how much she doesn't like him if anyone is there to see.

I like that having touched a wiener has given Marbear just that...iota of initiative to ask the boy who's giving her all these confusing feelings if he wants to watch some anime. It's adorable.

Dale, though... somewhere in Robot Jail May would facepalm if she saw this.

(Can't really blame him, though, as he's got all these confusing feelings too! It's just...very evident that May's expectations helped him keep a together-ish attitude last time, and now he's like..."wait uh crap uh what do")

Well, I mean, Jeph did feel the need to replace it, and it had all that first-date awkward between Dora and Tai. Plus we learned that Mr. Bianchi is kind of a dick.

(Also today's strip was numbered 2259, when it is in fact 2559.)

He's probably been worrying about this very moment since the first time Marigold threw money at him.  He actually was hoping to have someone to talk to about WoW, and she got confrontational, so he escalated it online and in reality, but now they're finally alone.  Together.

I'm going to go out on a limb and call 2259 the worst strip ever.

I can agree with this. The main problem is that it is boring, but it is also awfully just... weird. They specifically set up this get together to watch anime so it was obvious that Dale already liked it. You could have replaced that with any number of other awkward ice-breaking questions and it would have made for a better comic.

Furthermore, check out his cool in 2512/2513. Maybe he was thrown off by the helmet incident (how could he have not noticed it was still on!?), but otherwise his personality is exceptionally awkward for the circumstance. Of course, maybe he hadn't internally processed his feelings prior to this point.

Long story short though, the main problem was that it was boring.

Interesting aside, 2513 was less than a week ago in the QC universe. It's been a busy week!

The number at the top of the latest comic is incorrect. It should (unless it was deliberate, ofc) be 2559.

I was commenting on 2559, not 2259

Am I the only one who feels Dale's personality got a bit derailed?

Nope.

Of course, he didn't have much personality in the first place, but he certainly seems to have been Flanderized a bit for plot purposes.

There has to be a "worst" comic among the 2560 that have been drawn to date, and I can't honestly think of another that simultaneously did less to advance plot and was less funny than this one.

Perhaps #15 (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=15)

And the last few comics are what happens when you don't date in high school - the awkward just gets postponed until your first dates as as adult and becomes at least ten times worse. At least they're both equally awkward around each other - if they each tried dating people with more dating experience they'd most likely look like complete losers.

Welcome new person. Nice to meet you here. Be advised that to work as a community, we have to follow a few easy rules.

1st off:
We have a public spelling announcement. (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php?topic=29097.0) You desperately need to visit it if you can't get the name of the main character right.

2nd:
As hard as it can be, we're not really supposed to be shipping characters. It's in the rules. (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,27466.0.html) There isn't really anything that suggests that Marten and Claire will get together.

Lastly:
It's Marten, not Martin. (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,29097.0.html) Sorry. It's a pet peeve of mine.

I don't see Jeph abandoning his main character. And you're not the first nor will you be the last to "call" that Marten will leave.

And for all we know, Marten could be doing quite a lot on his free time, Jephzibah just chose not to show him in the strip today.

I love Hamlet, and I'd love to see it in English one day.

Until that day, the Branagh version has to suffice. I don't want to see a translated version.

And the last few comics are what happens when you don't date in high school - the awkward just gets postponed until your first dates as as adult and becomes at least ten times worse. At least they're both equally awkward around each other - if they each tried dating people with more dating experience they'd most likely look like complete losers.
I didn't date in high school at all. My sophomore year of college, I dated a freshman girl in the beginning of the year for two weeks. It ended badly, but lots of firsts were had! Not all good ones. Several very bad ones. I'll always appreciate it, though.

(Interestingly enough, that was the first and only time I've dated a younger girl, everyone since has been older, even if just by a few months)

One of the general rules when breaking the ice is not to bring up a subject about which you feel negatively. Don't bring up a show you hate as a topic of conversation, it leaves you with nothing positive to say which backs you into a corner if the person likes the thing you do not. Bring up something you do enjoy, this keeps your conversation options open the widest. Even if they do not share your interest in the subject,  you can always shift to a new topic with far less awkwardness, or even explain why you do like it. After that you can ask them what they are into and the cycle continues.

There's an insight there, that Marten is a catalyst. He makes reactions happen and is more or less unchanged afterward.

I am calling it right now.  After the Dale/Marigold arc, Martin is gonna move back to LA because he actually has no purpose in this current group of friends.

Faye + Angus
Dale + Marigold
Hannelore + Marigold
Dora + Tali
Steve + Cosette

So either Claire and Martin hookup(which everyone is secretly hoping for), or Martin fads into obscurity(He hasn't had meaningful character interaction/development sense 2458).

Food for Thought, now argue! :D

I enjoy your implication that people not in a relationship have no place in a group of friends.

I want to make a joke on how they're both peaches, but I'm just not sure how to get there.

There isn't really anything that suggests that Marten and Claire will get together.

I'm just splitting hairs, since it's not like I want the place to turn into fanfic central or anything, but it's absolutely been teased. And it may be just that, teasing the readers. But the foundation is set that it could go that way and it wouldn't be out of left field.

Do AnthroPCs get tired and want to sit down, or do they sit down to fit in with humans? Clearly Momo is doing it here as an attempt to get them closer because they're as far apart as possible while still being on the couch. But it raises a good question.

Do AnthroPCs interact with the world the same as people do? They could see things way differently. Their color settings could be wrong, or they could see ultraviolet lights and infrared and stuff. Can they feel?

Also, touching his wiener in front of Momo would be like doing it in front of the family dog. Except it's a talking dog that can say "OKAY, I'M GOING TO THE OTHER ROOM NOW"

To answer the first question, the answer would be yes. We have seen in the past [archive-foo failed to initiate] that they do rest sleep. Heck they dream as has been shown in the past for our two main AnthroPC characters. [quote Momo bwuh+blush ]
The reasoning for downtime is not so much physical since we don't see anyone sitting in a charging station [it is mostly off screen like eating cereal, bathing or pooping]  but mental and for the same reasons other higher function Intelligence systems need downtime. [maintenance and archiving]

As for the touching of some else's wiener, leave that for the kitchen and she should use tongs once they are properly heated up.

The thing about dogs is, they're HAPPY when you have sex in front of them. They know damned well what it's all about, and their little doggie brains are thinking "Oh boy! Puppies soon!" (Even if there's no chance of that.)

AnthroPCs would have reactions depending on personality. Pintsize would... well, we all know how THAT would go. Momo would just roll her eyes, mutter something under her breath about rabbits, and walk away.

First time posting. Just wanted to throw in my two cents about Marigold's behaviour throughout this whole arc with Dale and why she has seemingly forgotten about the whole peace offering thing. My theory is that she took her cue entirely from how Faye and Angus used to snark at one another in the beginning. I get this impression from this strip (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1687) when Marigold confronts Faye about 'fighting' with Angus over her music selection (curiously, it's titled "Switching Sides".  Her behaviour in People are Funny (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1691)" also supports this theory).  Both of these strips follow on the heels of her second confrontation with Dale in this strip (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1680) where Marten quips that he wasn't sure if they were flirting or fighting-- a line that gets reinforced and repeated every time these two are seen interacting and other people are around. If Marigold is attempting to (poorly) adopt Faye's strategy in landing her man, it certainly explains why she seemed to get over the whole Faye/Angus thing so quickly.  She tells Hanners about she's over it in #1692 (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1692), and the panels that immediately follow are her first in-game confrontation with Dale and the infamous "this one has potential" line.

In which case, it makes sense to me as to why she's being so weirdly rude and confrontational with him despite the peace offering. I don't think she's forgotten. I think that, between anime, her lack of social skills and experience in the 'what to do when you like a boy' department, she's following the one flirting formula she's seen work from up close and personal-- Faye's!

Thanks for the welcome, guys.  :) I'm just following your lead. I always enjoyed reading everyone's insights/theories/speculations on the story in the forum, never had anything to contribute of my own until now.

And now it seems you got me on a roll.

Just to comment on the whole helmet joke from Monday's strip and why Dale might've not noticed he was still wearing it... I read that as an indicator that he was just as nervous as Marigold about this whole night. Sometimes when you're excited about something, you get absent-minded about things that you'd normally notice. (I once showed up to a friend's party, sober as a judge, in two different shoes. They weren't even the same height. I have no idea how I missed that but I did).

Also, as a side note, gotta say how I never noticed how great Jeph is at conveying the body language of all his characters. I was going back through the archives as I was trying to find the strips I linked and I never really appreciated how all the subtle shifts in expression and posture contributed to the scene. I'm hyper-aware of it this week-- probably because the best way you can convey awwwwwwkward is through body language.

Methinks you're going to fit in 'round here.

Feel free to use the intro subforum to Introduce yourself to us (and hold on to your lug wrench).

Haha. Thanks. And sure thing. (Lug wrenches are the only way to accessorize!)

Also, pertaining to tonight's comic, d'awwwww.  Dale totally loses his cool around Marigold.  Clever how Jeph set up that contrast with the coffee shop and Faye. You know when Faye doesn't faze you, but the curvy nerdy WOW chick does, you've got it bad.

Cute!

How about this: At some point (could be in the next few weeks, could be in a bit) Marigold and Dale get together, leaving only Marten out of the main group with out a significant other (Hanners doesn't count).

He realizes this, flips, and does something incredibly stupid.

This whole date really walks the line between sweet and cringe-worthy. I really hope it ends well just because it would be so painful to watch it go badly!  At this point Dale and Marigold are both so vulnerable that I don't think I could laugh if they got into another misunderstanding.

Now, if the evening devolved into absurdity for some reason unrelated to Dale and Marigold's awkwardness, and instead of snuggling on the sofa they end up doing something on the order of chasing a squirrel around the house or being attacked by a maniac with a Vespa, I could definitely laugh at that.

Right now they strike me as heading for a "let's, um, do this again sometime" and maybe an awkward hug. To be followed by Hanners way-too-eagerly seeking spicy details.

Yup - she is a girl in transition.
Before MoMo Mama Jama couldn't get her to either eat right or clean up after herself.
It took the help of unlooked for friends and combat level hazmat remediation to get things cleaned up and her on the road to joining the outside world.

Remember she is still on her first faltering steps even though she has come this far already.

This whole comic is about healing. Growing. Fulfilling potential.

I'm not sure if this is what is confusing people.. but when putting together at least older wooden ships, the very first thing you put down (or 'lay in') is the longer spine that runs the length of the ship... ie the keel.

One of my fond childhood memories is being driven in a horse sled around the Place Of Revolution. I remember the girl driving had long hair and I thought how beautiful she was. I was only what... five or six? I think it was less than that.

Moments like these in the dark of the night (heh) is when I wonder what could have been, and whether that other life would have been better. Consciously I know it wouldn't, but I suppose the grass is always greener in the hypothetical reality where little dwarves come out every night to take care of it.
