I'm hoping for not too much drama, because too much drama leads to people getting unreasonably angry at Jeph, which could go especially bad very quickly, given the subject that he's dealing with here.
As such, I'm hoping that Emily's idolization of Claire will be enough for her to keep it a secret.
What's the other 5%?ANAL (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1728)
FAYE: "I think I'm pregnant."Unthinkable. Puce condoms don't fail.
What's the other 5%?
Art-style is subtly different today. Can't place it, but it's especially visible in the first two panels. Darker lines, maybe?
...and also Claire's "if anyone asks..." stance makes me sad. I don't think I'm alone in thinking its going to bite her in the ass, and what makes it worse is that Jeph's almost certainly not going to go there, which is just going to leave the eternal sense something terrible will happen the moment the cameras stop rolling.
Even if the secret gets out I doubt that any of the gang will have a problem with it, but Claire might not be able to handle the thought of everyone finding out well, I really hope if it happens Martin will be there to guide her back to us.

I dunno… maybe it's a flying car?
Or a self-driving robocar…
Ooh, I know! A self-flying robo-hovercar!
Jeph would not have attracted such a diverse range of readers if he was going to set Claire up in any terrible way. Still, Emily... don't mess this up!I dunno… maybe it's a flying car?

With May in control. Couldn't say whether that would be epic, or marked down under "cause of death". Possibly both?

He might set her up for another panic attack, like when Clinton blurted out that she had snuggled with Marten. Then again, probably just to make her have another close moment with either Marten or Emily. Or maybe even Tai, IDK.

I could see perennial nice guy Marten-friend swinging in for the "Dawg, you okay?" after Claire has a panic attack, mostly because he's the person Claire's closest with at the library. The panic attack may not even based on Emily doing anything, just Claire's perception of Emily, and worrying that she might slip up and tell. (Anxiety issues aren't confined to rational or logical fears) then post pep talk Claire lets a bomb drop and BOOM Turkey Week. Reconciliation with Emily would be post turkey week one.

Maybe it is my eyes but has Jeph been drawing Claire more feminine lately? Besides showing more skin, he looks like he is showing off more of her...well, assets.
I like this change, I hope it's a sign that she won't have any problems when the "secret" gets out.
I think it'd be less a mentally challenged person and more a trained animal, perhaps? Otherwise I feel like Dora would have to have the machine on payroll...Hmm... Do espresso machines have any form of "brain"? If not, would it be any more sentient than a pair of scissors, for example?
The only reason people would treat a non-sentient machine any different that they would a hardware tool would be uncertainty - you would perhaps not know whether the machine in question wa sentient or not right away.
I dunno... I don't think our espresso machines attract creepy little robots.... yet.
The process is detrimental to the female's health.GEE, YA THINK? :psyduck:

Coming soon: A new Pintsize-shaped espresso machine at Coffee of Doom, to go along with the dinosaur-shaped ones (from when the allosaurus mated with the machine) and the Bonercat-shaped one.
Dora, you've already introduced Tai to Dale. He's very climbable.Yeah, only 25 strips earlier (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2550). Weird.
Damn, changing it might change the impact of the "girlfriend?" line...
Then again, what did Tai think they were? Still fuck-buddies(excuse my language)...

The impact of actually hearing someone utter the phrase is not to be underestimated. ;) Even if you know it already/have discussed it in private.
Warning -- not only did someone else reply while you were typing but apparently Jeph changed the comic too.
So 11 respondents to the quiz got it right (so far).
Then again, what did Tai think they were? Still fuck-buddies(excuse my language)...There can be a phase in which two people are going on dates, getting to know each other, and are clearly interested in each other romantically and not just looking for a fuckbuddy... but they haven't yet reached the point of actually regarding themselves as a couple. It's the phase of exploring whether they want to be a couple. (Some people's approach to dating skips this phase and goes from zero to "girlfriend" in one date.)
I think Platypodes sums up anything I was going to say, so I'll just ask why Tai is suddenly speaking Spanish? It's just a guess, but ... http://gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1274 :)
I think Platypodes sums up anything I was going to say, so I'll just ask why Tai is suddenly speaking Spanish?
Either Tai's just surreptitiously dosed herself with LSD, or she's been in some serious cognitive dissonance about her relationship with Dora.
Edit: Okay. What did I miss? What did Jeph change in today's strip?
Tai's confusion also reminds me of the time that Faye, talking about Angus, couldn't articulate the word "boyfriend" (ending up with "boyfling", if I remember correctly).
I think Platypodes sums up anything I was going to say, so I'll just ask why Tai is suddenly speaking Spanish?
It's common enough here in the US for people (even non-Spanish speakers) to occasionally drop a word or two of Spanish. I didn't think anything unusual of it.
graunchI learned a word today! Although if it's a portmanteau of grind and crunch, shouldn't it just be grunch? Where's the a from?
Between the r and the uYou know what I meant.
Dora started going out with Tai based on very tentative interest in someone she only knew as the "cute little redhead."
Ahem. So what was changed?
In 2550, Dora introduces the new employee as 'Dale'.
In 2575, Dale gets to introduce himself.
How does this fix anything?
I took a screenshot, but I'm not really sure how to put the image into the discussion here. The original text read: "Dale, this is my girlfriend Tai."Download the GIMP, open file one, open file two as a new layer, rename both so they have a number in brackets in the layer title (this is the display time in ms), save as .gif. That's the extremely compressed tutorial that skips a whole bunch of efficiencies and explanations but there you go.
I wish I knew how to make gifs so I could play the speech bubbles back-to-back. I had the original comic open in one tab and the new one open in another, and they look pretty awesome when I line up the images and click back and forth.
Thomas BarkalterI, uh...don't get it :?
Mousey TongueI see what you did there...
Google says "Did you mean: Thomas Burkhalter?"Quote from: TaiThomas BarkalterI, uh...don't get it :?
Is anyone else looking forward to Tai meeting Dora's parents?
It was "sexy little redhead (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2261)".Dora started going out with Tai based on very tentative interest in someone she only knew as the "cute little redhead."
Her original description of Tai was "adorable little butch girl (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=776)". But perhaps she used the phrase "cute little redhead" in another strip?

Plus contentment is bad for script ideas. The first part is a prediction, but this sounds close to telling Jeph what he should do. I'm sure that wasn't your intention, but you should know that's frowned upon here. Reverse shipping (hereafter to be referred to as "pishing", not a perfect reversal but sounds better out loud) is therefore no better than shipping in that regard.
Is that like, reverse shipping?

As long as we're on the topic of dog names: I used to joke that my dog could say her own name. Her name was "Ruth".
OK, so that's lame. But she was a great dog and I miss her.

...so that would be "breaking"?
It won't last, they never do. Plus contentment is bad for script ideas.
Oh oh.
...On the one hand, Tai, meet Dora's terrifying jealousy/control problem! Yeah she kind of helped break up Marten and Dora and she makes Dora, when angry, frankly even scarier than Faye! Faye might punch you, but Dora will cut you. With a sword.
But on the other, that smirk and that shitty expression on little miss Allie of the Reverse Raven Hairstyle seems to suggest she thinks Tai is the village lesbian bicycle! Which is a shitty fucking thing to think about a person and indicates that no, no one would be sad if Allie died! I wouldn't, anyhow.
Oh oh.Would we be lucky enough to have Aliie's last name be Saur?

I'll bet you the smirk was the outward expression of an internal dialogue along the lines of, "Ha, you're dating *her*?"Mmm... I wonder what Dora has in mind. The Thousand Cuts? Quartering by four buffalo?
Yeah she kind of helped break up Marten and DoraYou're giving Tai way too much credit here.

I am not sure why everyone immediately jumps to Dora's insecurities as to why she's so angry at the new girl. It's possible that she's doing the 'my girlfriend has an ex and now she must die!' thing, but that wasn't really how she was like with Marten. To me at least it looks more like 'Someone's giving my girlfriend shit, and now she must die!'
Could be the age thing, but I think it's more likely that the smirk's abut Tai having A girlfriend - after having been known around campus for her polyamory, the notion of her settling down may have inspired a "yeah, right!" reaction.
In a situation where monogamy is the norm, you need a discussion before you assume polyandry is OK. If polyandry is the norm, you need a discussion before you assume your relationship is monogamous. Neither can be considered the norm here and the discussion has yet to take place, although it looks like it's about to.
There's eight more strips before Thanksgiving.
I've been thinking "Tai, you had better not hurt Dora! :x "
I don't know what I think I'd do... Maybe I'd learn to draw like Jeph and draw myself into a comic giving Tai a piece of my mind and so bad she hangs her head in shame for weeks?

Oh my. I hadn't thought of it like that. I dunno if Tai would do that though*, she was so goofy head over heels for Dora, and has bitched to Marten-friend a few times to my memory about her prior life style.
*that being sleeping around

was Allie not the initially-naked TA in Tai's room that Marten(?) ran into in that one strip and started lighting up a bong?I went back and found the comic where she introduces herself, and apparently her name is Annette. (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1541)
If Allie were a regular at CoD, Dora would put a trace amount of arsenic in her coffee every day until it finally kills her. Time may not be on her side here.

Well, no. The word is not quite that restricted; for one thing, it is used in reference to animals, who presumably do not marry.polygynyDoesn't polygyny specifically refer to marriage?
Ah thanks. I stand corrected.I think the word you're looking for is "polyamoury" (the u being optional, I guess).
No "u", even in England. The OED doesn't recognise that form, and derives the word "polyamory" directly from the Latin "amor", not the French "amour".
Would you write "amourous" for "amorous"? Well, then......
How many Allies/Ally/Eilly/Whatever variants are there in web comics? Sunstone and Bloodstein have them as well IIRC....

Hmm¹. I don't think I'm reading a single comic in which polyandry occurs. (Girl Genius has been teasing us with the concept, but teasing's all it's been.) Not that I have any opening for a new comic right now ...
Hmm². Would you call Tai's past polyamourous relationship polygyny, or would that be unnecessary stretching of the word?
If you hadn't called attention to it, perhaps. But why do that? Just admit you learned something today :parrot:
A: "How've you been?"
B: "Good, good. This is my girlfriend Dora."
A: "Well, see you around."

Some of his works were written in "the shadow of Black Mountain", at the ANU where I teach.
