Title: Going, going, ...
Post by: pwhodges on 06 Jul 2014, 15:06
No, not gone - yet.

For reasons connected with my personal life*, I intend to stop coming to the forum from early next month.  You will note that Is it cold in here? has become an admin, so that all aspects of running the forum will still be covered.  Please continue to support him and all the other mods in the way that you have supported me over the past several years.

Paul

* Specifically, I need to devote more time to making serious preparations for retirement, and forums are taking a considerable amount of time that I could better dedicate to that.  I shall miss it (and some other forums that I will also leave), but sometimes choices have to be made.

Oh no! We'll miss you.

Well, I hope everything goes as you want it to. Come back and visit, m'kay?

Have a lovely retirement! Thank you Paul. You are hands down the best admin I've met so far on my internet-faring days.

Agreed with Masterpiece. I hope you'll still come around from time to time, you've been an amazing asset to the community and you'll be very dearly missed.

I will be very very sorry to see you go, PWH.

As an admin, a mod, and a fascinating, knowledgeable, insightful forum member, your contributions have been huge. My very best wishes for your future.

I've only been here half a year and I've already grown quite fond of you, man. You'll be missed by all of us. Best of luck with your retirement  :-)

Oh, crud, this means I move up on the seniority list, doesn't it?

Paul: retirement is fun. Planning isn't. Hope all goes well with you.

This doesn't have anything to do with wife's job seeking in South Africa, does it?

I will repeat what I've said in the blog thread recently: You're one of the most, if not the most interesting person I've met. Your experiences and stories are always great to hear and always make me learn new, very interesting things. You inspire me. That being said, I'll be sad when you're gone, but nevertheless I wish you the best of luck for your future. I'd love to hear from you every once in a while, even if you don't come here regularly anymore

Sorry to hear that, Paul,  You have brought a goodly measure of wisdom and erudition to this forum, which I am going to miss.
The very best of luck in your future endeavors.

Be sure to come back and visit whenever you can.

I drink to your health with a glass of Jura Prophecy!  Iechyd da!

And congratulations to Is It Cold In Here.

Paul: retirement is fun. Planning isn't. Hope all goes well with you.

I don't retire from my employment for two years more; but I have a scheme for earning income after that that requires work on it to start now.

No.  This decision was made before that possibility came up.  If that goes ahead, everything goes in the melting pot - exciting, but kinda scary.

Take care Paul, we'll miss ya and hope you have fun - eventually.

And one day, we hope to see you back here amongst us.

I have a scheme for earning income after that that requires work on it to start now.

Sounds ominous. I can see it right now.

Quote from: The Guardian, 05th July 2016
In a surprising turn of events, one Paul Hodges robbed the Federal National Gold reserves of the United States yesterday, while the majority of the population was distracted by the Independence Day celebrations. When briefly reached for comment, Hodges stated he had been planning the coup for two years "to secure his income after retirement", but did not comment on his further plans.

As I believe I have said before, I wish you the best of luck. Thank you for the continued watch of the forum and making it the place it is now. I too hope you drop by now and then.

It's actually to do with recording and organs and computers; but I would have to say that, wouldn't I...

Is this the part where we all wake up in a tub of ice water, and a note to call 911?

(organ pun. I'll see myself out now)

(Good luck, Paul)

Paul do you have Facebook? I'm planning on leaving Abingdon eventually but you must join me for a pub quiz some time before I do. Will you still check PMs on here?

I really appreciate the way you run and moderate the forum (and I am sure the other mods will continue with most of that); thanks for making it the way it is now!

I haven't posted in this forum in a while, but I have been lurking. The forum will not be the same without your insight. Good luck with retirement and possibly South Africa if it does happen.

Best of luck, Paul!! You have brought the forum to a truly wonderful place and I can only hope that we maintain it's positive energy after you bow out. I will miss your interesting teachings, delightful stories and tactful moderation. I'd love to be added on Facebook as well. Tried to locate you but my goodness.....so many results.

Paul do you have Facebook?

I never post on FaceBook.  I have an account, but only check it sporadically for news of my children and grandchildren, and two or three non-local friends.

my goodness.....so many results.

I went to the University of Oxford, and have this profile picture:

This doesn't have anything to do with wife's job seeking in South Africa, does it?

Further to this, my wife learnt today that next week (when she is interviewing in SA) she will be made redundant as the result of restructuring to save money in the library.  So life gets yet more unstable...

Oh, man...

I remember suggesting that you be made a mod when the whole self-policing idea first got tossed about.

And I'm nothing compared with the real old timers on this board.

You've taught me a great deal, and I've valued your presence, your vigilance and your tolerance.

Pax,

Carl-E

Good luck with your new income making scheme and glorious retirement. Remember if Batman shows up take all his gadgets and put them in another room after you strap him to your doomsday device.

I just realised that I sounded rather churlish earlier. It wasn't my intention, honest! I really appreciate all you've done here. In fact, I'd probably count this as my 'home' online thanks in no small part to your oversight.

Aww sad news! It's always sad when someone leaves, but you've been such a stable and constant poster here for the entire time I've been here (and in between when I wasn't) that it'll be even more noticeable than most. Like everyone else, I'll miss your spot on insight and knowledge. Take good care!  :-)
