Title: Destiny (xbox 360)
Post by: Blyss on 23 Jul 2014, 09:23
So, yesterday a friend of mine sent me an extra code he got for the Destiny beta, completely unexpectedly.  I now find myself able to get in on something I was absolutely not thinking I would, so I'll post stuff here as I play and frankly if I get kicked out of the beta for doing so, I've not really lost anything.  I'll spoiler tag stuff so as not to ruin anything for anyone, but yeah, I'll be commenting on it here.

It's very Halo-esque, and the names for people are really dumb so far

Okay, so first impression, non spoilery stuff:

Visuals - Pretty damned impressive.  Skyrim has been the measuring stick for me on the 360 for how beautiful a game can be, and this is either as good, or slightly better.  Bear in mind, I'm on the 360, and playing on a 40" plasma at 720p, so in all fairness it'll probably look better on current gen stuff at 1080p and who knows what 4k would look like.  That all said, there's something goofy about certain parts.  For some reason certain areas look very cartoony to me.  I haven't figured out why, unless it has to do with moving from a wide open space where everything is given such an eye for detail to a fairly small area that looks like 'videogame spaceport 1.111'.  It's actually a little jarring, to be honest.  Overall, the game is gorgeous but anyone following this release probably already knew that.

Sound - In all honesty, sound doesn't equate to much in games for me these days, unless it makes me notice it, and this one does.  I can't tell you how many times I was playing and immediately whipped around, looking in every direction to ascertain what the hell I just heard.  That is something I haven't seen so prevalent in a long time.  I don't know the specific mechanics used, but they did it right.

Presentation - You won't find a lot of innovation here, but the formula being used is not a bad one.  The HUD, the screen prompts and the like are all pretty standard stuff.  If you've played FPS games in the last 10 years you'll be comfortable with what they have here.  Where you'll notice a change is the Menu, and I really like what they've done with that.  It's difficult to describe, but I guess if pressed I'd say that it is an 'aim' and click interface.  It's very intuitive, very easy to use, and you can get around quickly which is important since if you 'pause' in the worlds where enemies exist, they can still shoot you.  That's certainly not pausing in the traditional sense.  That said, I was still able to use it, and I didn't die once while paused.

Okay – spoilery stuff potentially follows, continue at your own risk and so on and so forth:

(click to show/hide)

If I find anything else worth mentioning, I’ll post it here, and if anyone has requests or questions about the game please don’t hesitate to ask.  If I can make it happen, or check it out, I will.

Apparently, people are using the game to play Duck, Duck, Goose. In fact, there's a video floating around somewhere on youtube.

You're given a hover bike to travel to places quicker and it makes me feel like I'm riding a speeder bike in Star Wars. The powers are a lot of fun, my character can make a giant shockwave so I run into the middle of a group of enemies and take them all out. My friends power lets him summon some kind of flaming gun that takes out enemies quicker. It's nice that there are generally a lot of folks hanging around in the hub and open world, mainly if you need to be saved or destroy something there's someone there to help do it. My friend and I have crashed a few raids and helped take out the bosses and it was fun.

Sadly we haven't seen any duck, duck, goose yet.

Having made some bad decision in my gaming purchases lately, how would you rate the preorderability of this game at the moment? I probably end up doing it anyway to be easy on the cash, but yeah. . .

Okay, so supposedly if you log in on Saturday at 2:00pm (Not sure what time zone though) you will get a bonus if you purchase the full game.  I'm personally going to check Bungie's site to see if they specify a time zone, but I haven't yet.

Tried a different class today.  Had a blast.  Found some amazing places and creatures.  Even as I signed off, there was still some talk with a friend of mine about what we would try to explore tomorrow.  I want to say, I wasn't even interested in this game.  Now I may actually preorder it.  It's that much fun, and my friends are definitely already buying it, so I'll have people I know to play with.

Oh, and from what I hear, the beta is over after Sunday.  So, GM get that TV man.  You need to play this thing!  :)

The beta is now open to all. I haven't spent all that much time with it so I plan to check back in once it closes.

I absolutely love it, though.

I have not seen any duck, duck goose, but I did kick a soccer ball around the tower, and noticed some others batting what looked likea giant beach ball around as well.

Everyone seems to be having fun, and for the most part actually playing the way the game was meant to be played.    Last night, my friends and I got into (and survived) an area I don't think we were meant to.  It was surrounded by creatures that were marked with ?? for levels which means level 20 in the beta and are unkillable.  We managed to run into and then through their cave without dying.  Was pretty intense, but immensely fun.

I reached the level cap for all 3 classes and got the surfer as well.  I think I prefer the Hunter class over the warlock and titan, with warlock a close second.

Playing today as part of the stress test and to hopefully get the bonus offered once the full game comes out.

Playing this game has converted me to a new fan.  I honestly wasn't interested at all, but the beta has convinced me that I will indeed pre-order and get this game now.  So yeah, good stuff.

Also - this fuckin' guy right here...

lmao. It's been closed again now.  That mission was exceedingly fun and my friend and I explored everything we could while it was open.

Also, Bungie has now stated on their website that they will be keeping the beta open until they say otherwise, so the Sunday deadline is no more.  If you can at all, I highly recommend trying this game.  I haven't had that much fun with a game in a long time.

It's been a hell of a few days, that's for sure.

Title: Re: Destiny Beta (xbox 360)
Post by: Blyss on 28 Jul 2014, 08:35
I'll add you today LJ Felix, and yeah, it was a pretty bad move to do that.  I mean, my friends and I read it and thought, "well hell they're going to keep this open for a while."  Then they went and shut it down on Sunday, as was initially stated would happen.  They didn't exactly lie, they did shut it down when they wanted to, but boy did it feel misleading coming from them that Sunday wasn't necessarily the shut down day, and then to shut it down on Sunday anyway.

Kind of a bad PR move after how well everything else went this weekend, but then, they only opened the moon for 2 hours, and a lot of people were pretty pissed that they missed it because they were at work.  I think that overall the beta was a positive experience, but it genuinely ended on a sour note for me because of how they handled it.

Title: Re: Destiny Beta (xbox 360)

The servers started getting really chaotic towards the end so I guess that factored into their decision. They had an event planned for the Sunday too which they cancelled due to server instability / testing. I think they did plan to keep it open for longer but then either decided they had all the information they needed or just had other concerns / priorities.

I've been playing on PS4 so I hope it's okay for me to join in on here, but yeah I seriously can't wait until release, now. Folk have said the beta was fundamentally just the demo and I definitely see that.

It's so odd to me that the game is almost literally a mix of Halo and Borderlands but so, so much better than either of them alone, as far as I'm concerned. I was never really into Halo and Borderlands bored me to play solo but I've had an absolute blast with Destiny, even just running around in explore mode and grinding mobs / events. I think being invested in the aesthetic is certainly motivating my play, too; I want my character to look good which means getting new / better gear which means more interest in farming. I spent hours grinding glimmer to buy a new ship!

I'm certainly excited to see how the full game plays out; exploring class options, seeing how the content expands and so on. As a PS4 user, it feels like the first real 'next gen' experience I've had in terms of the graphical fidelity and general smoothness of the whole thing, which also makes me excited for the future.

Thanks to a lack of decent interwebs, it looks likeI've missed out, but I fully intend on getting the full game when it comes out.
RedWolf - My mate did it on the 'Bone and on his 360, said it was a lot smoother, and the graphics were so much more purty than on the 360, but I guess that's just to be expected from a next-gen console

It's absolutely fine to join in on the conversation.  I'd not meant to limit it to 360 experiences alone, was just trying to let people know what system I was using personally.  My friends played it on the PS4 as well, and they had nothing but good things to say about it.

About the glimmer grinding, I thought about it, and to be honest, even in only this limited release I got a ship and a speeder and a new banner for each class and while yes, I did indeed grind to get them it never felt like grinding.  I was just exploring, and would happen upon enemies that needed killing and I would get glimmer for doing so.  That is a major difference for me, considering how many times I've played the Coveted and Rooftop Rumble missions in GTA V just to grind for cash.  I would occasionally look around and go, "wow, I have enough glimmer to buy some shit," and then I'd go buy something.  That is a vastly different experience than I am used to.
Title: Re: Destiny Beta (xbox 360)
Post by: maxusy3k on 30 Jul 2014, 15:52
For sure... I said grinding because I was intentionally running a circuit to get glimmer to buy stuff, that was my goal, but yeah I never had that point of being like "ugh okay here we go again" or whatever. I found a great spot where some rare / tougher mobs spawned in packs and also random events kicked off in the same area so just hanging around there was great, plus a constant stream of people running through.

I think this in general sums up a lot of why I enjoyed thing. I did a lot of things I'm used to doing in MMOs in terms of grinding or farming for gear or drops or whatever but I really enjoyed the process in of itself, like I would do that for a while and then go "okay, need a quick break... oh wow I have all these engrams to decode", rather than the other way round, I guess.

September seems forever away ;_;

I'm hoping it turns up with today's post as it didn't arrive yesterday.

I'm really not sure what class to play! I played Hunter in Beta and loved it and was pretty much set on rolling that way now but between the sassy Warlock in the live action trailer and what I'm reading about the Titan's potential as a support class I've become really uncertain.

Yeah they've definitely tweaked the difficulty. I feel like the experience rate and item drops aren't really at the same level as they were in the beta either. I'm still enjoying it though, for sure!

Plowed through Moon Campaign missions lastnight / this morning and spent some time exploring. Managed to do the strike on the Moon as well and wow, insanely difficult (especially when one of your two teammates drops out halfway through).

Oh, and enemies spawn faster. I cleared an area, the old plane yard, only to find the enemies had already come back at the start of it. I'm not complaining, more guys to kill, but later on that may be a nuisance with higher level enemies.

Gotta say I'm definitely liking it so far, everything seems nice and well laid out. I do think there are some missed opportunities here and there, like having having npc garrisons in patrol mode, sort of to give you a start point to work from/learn a little lore/have another in world event at. Unless they're present in later missions or something.

They are currently running a special that if you buy it for the 360, you get a free digital download version for the Xbone.  Friend of mine went ahead and took them up on the offer, and according to him, they are essentially the same game, in that his character transitions seamlessly from one system to the other and back.  Just wanted to give you the info.  I'll likely be buying a PS4 in the future, and rebuying Destiny for that, so I'm not  interested in the Xbox one download, but it does sound like a cool deal.  I don't know if the special will still be running in October, but possibly.

I really should have done that, since there are actually people on my friend's list playing it and then I would also get a code to play it on the X1 with my other friends.

I didn't plan it this way, but all of my armor in Destiny matches to form a certain cohesive style, mainly blue and gold, which also matches the special sparrow I got for getting all the gold chests on Earth

So, it's been a week.

I have a hunter that is a hair's breadth away from level 26, and she is basically lethal to all but the toughest of enemies that I have seen so far.  The only thing I haven't managed to do is the heroic nightfall strike (which for me was level 28 enemies and emblazoned with a 'Very Hard' label with a skull next to it) and I did try, but the fact is, the AI is so cranked up that there was no way to do it alone, and my regular fireteam was already all done for the night when I attempted it.

(click to show/hide)

There is something about this game that I cannot put my finger on, but whatever this 'x' factor is, it makes this one of the most fun things I've ever played.  And I haven't even started my other characters in the other classes yet.  I don't often say things like this, lest I mislead someone just based on my biases, but this game is damned amazing.  Highly recommended.

You've hit the nail on the head as far as I can see. I wholly agree with reviews giving it 6 or 7 out of 10 and with a lot of the people saying it feels more of a victory of style over substance.

BUT I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

The story is pretty weird in that I feel like there are almost threads of story there that don't go anywhere in some cases, which I suppose is their way of shifting DLC.

I got a hunter up to level 19 but as I took a break to level a new character to play with a friend, the new apple of my eye is a level 16 Warlock in the Sunsinger class; it allows more supportive play and I'm having an absolute blast with it. I can't wait to get into the endgame stuff!

I've maxed out the stats on my Hunter's 'Blade Dancer' sublcass...

There are things I like about the Gunslinger subclass better, but frankly, I've never seen anything as lethal as that arcblade in action.  I'm not a PVP guy at all, but I played a few rounds to get the crucible bounty experience.  I had a moment that I'll likely never get again, but was amazing and I wish I'd had the ability to record it.  The other team (all 6 of them) were running at me in a narrow corridor and I'd just gotten my special ability ready - I went bladedancer and killed every single one of their team in about a 5 second period.  It was pretty awesome to behold.

That I really can't answer.. I haven't picked it up yet. A lot of people have said it's quite good. But I really want it on PC. I would be okay to buy it for my 360, but not to pay full price for it, then  have to buy it again later for PC. So I'm just waiting for it to show up somewhere half priced or less.

I'd be pretty sore on just playing the single player, to be honest. You'd miss out on the whole endgame (which seems to be where the game really takes off) and a big chunk of the incidental strike missions, plus all the PvP. If you wanted to see if you enjoyed it and if it would justify purchasing XBL, then maybe.

One of my friends used it to get to lvl 24, while another just played Crucible a lot.

Finally did the weekly strike challenge, and after tries finally got it thanks to the kindness of a complete stranger. Our 3rd man wasn't on so we messaged random folks in the Tower to do it with us, and one was kind enough to. It's pretty dumb that it doesn't connect you with players like a normal strike would, and I'm not a big fan of not being able to respawn, though that does make it more challenging

Also, we need some new bounties.

Hhaha yup, ran the Nightfall with some friends lastnight, I'm 27 and they were 26. Managed to finish it up with only one wipe though which wasn't too bad, bagged myself a nice legendary rocket launcher (the one sold by the FWC) which I guess I'll use for PvP. We ended up having to cheese the boss, though.

There's talk about possibly running the raid this weekend which would be exciting, but mainly I'm happy to have the rep bonus from completing the Nightfall for the rest of the week.

I found out yesterday that you can only carry a maximum of 200 reputation marks which means I've wasted almost half of this week's mark allocation, which was  really frustrating to find out. Had to buy some legendary gear from the Vanguard vendor which I don't really need, kind of annoying.

The rest of this week will probably be trying to complete the exotic bounties I've picked up, both of which now require me to seriously up my PvP game - one is obtaining a K/D spread of 25 (currently up to 16 but obviously bad games damage my progress) while the other is obtain "500 points" by killing Guardians with Void damage - it's only 5 points per kill and you lose 2 points per death and the Void damage modifier means kills with my primary weapon don't count ;_;

That actually sucks, and I wasn't aware of it.  I'm glad you posted that, otherwise I would've wasted some as well.  I've never gone over 200, but I am about to with Vanguard and Crucible marks, so yeah I would've been seriously pissed off, considering how few you get and how limited they are per week.

The rest of this week will probably be trying to complete the exotic bounties I've picked up, both of which now require me to seriously up my PvP game - one is obtaining a K/D spread of 25 (currently up to 16 but obviously bad games damage my progress) while the other is obtain "500 points" by killing Guardians with Void damage - it's only 5 points per kill and you lose 2 points per death and the Void damage modifier means kills with my primary weapon don't count ;_;

I had the 500 Points of void damage one, and abandoned it, as I am not good enough at PVP to get it.  Frankly, the highest I ever got it to was 35.  Bear in mind, though, that one of my clanmates is a level 28 Warlock and he's already up to almost 200 on it, after just a few sessions.  My character is a hunter and even with Void weapons, I couldn't pull it off.  But then, my kill/death ratio is pitiful.

Something I've noted after a few weeks of playing this:
I seem to be in the .1% of people that get a LOT of drops.  I honestly don't know why that is.  I have one friend that is just barely rank 2 with the Cryptarch, because he almost never finds engrams, whereas I am level 33 because I seemingly find a shit-ton of them.  I have found not only rare ship drops, but multiples of said ships, and during one of the Queen's Wrath missions we all got our guaranteed legendary piece, and I got a bonus legendary sniper rifle...  twice.

Something is off with their random number generator, if you ask me.  While it's all cool and well for me to get good shit, it's really not for all of the people getting screwed when it comes to drops.  Yesterday's patch is supposedly going to address that, and I hope it does.

My current setup.

Edited to add:  I recently figured out that if you are wearing the queen's emblem and shader that are available when you reach rank 1, you get bonus rank points when you turn in her bounties.  I imagine it's the same for any of the factions, and I'll try to confirm that.

So, I thought this was kind of neat - Destiny Tracker (http://destinytracker.com/destiny/player/xbox/sockeydad) shows you your, or someone else's progress in the game.  The one in the link is mine.  I guess I can't get to level 30 without doing the Vault of Glass raid.  So, that's definitely on the to do list now.

I'm doing some of the iron banner bounties, but frankly some are just ridiculous.  I'm not much of a pvp guy at all, so it's likely I won't get to rank 3.  I MIGHT, get rank 2, but it's not likely.  Ah well.  C'est la vie.  (Not sure if I spelled that correctly)
Title: Re: Destiny (xbox 360)

Yeah I think I've managed like... two Iron Banner bounties? I'm at like halfway between rank 1 and 2 now since I've been off work sick and bedridden but even if I smash it this weekend I can't see myself hitting rank 3 - I'm getting better at PvP but with quitters and pre-made teams in the mix my wins are few and far between.

EDIT: Oh! I ran (and completed) the Vault of Glass today! A lovely Australian gentleman I helped out on the Thorn bounty asked if I wanted to go along and invited me to his team. He was super chill and cool talking me and another new guy through the whole thing. I'm really excited to see if any new raids get added to the game now, lots of teamwork required and some really cool mechanics. I only got a couple of items; the legendary machine gun Corrective Measures and the shader, Chatterwhite, along with a bunch of Ascendant Materials, but can't wait to run it again next week.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to run again even with a pretty poor loot haul which says a lot I guess. It's hard to describe the mechanics I guess but considering the only way you can really interact with the world in Destiny is by shooting at stuff I think they've done a really good job, it's up there with the kind of thing you'd expect to see in a standard MMO in terms of raid / dungeon content - clearly influenced by heavy hitters like WoW etc.

Hopefully as the game develops they'll start taking some of these mechanic ideas and apply them to normal strikes instead of having bosses that are just normal mobs with 100x their normal HP pool.

I noticed today that there's a weird thing sometimes where momentum is carried over into melee attack force, which means I can do things like plummet from the sky onto an enemy, punch them on the way down and force their ragdoll into the ground so hard they bounce off into orbit.

I was saving for the Sparrow but after running the raid I bought Shadow Price and now need to buy the PvE gear. The marks cap is really ridiculous imo, I hit the cap by Wednesday from running the weeklies and a few additional strikes.

If you haven't done the Nightfall so far this week and you have 13 strange coins, Xur is selling the exotic sniper rifle Icebreaker this week which comes with fire damage and regenerating ammo making the strike super easy to solo.

The best thing happened yesterday. My friend and I decided to do the Weekly Heroic Strike on lvl. 26 without a third person, so armed with some void weapons we set out. Everything went pretty well, we even faced off the 3 waves of Vex and managed to gun them all down while only dying once or twice, never having to restart. Then came the part with the pikes. Instead of fighting them we decided to run for it. My friend made it....I did not, having been gunned down by the 3 armored Minotaurs. Thankfully I would respawn so I waited while my friend continued on. But while I was respawning the Minotaurs decided they would continue attacking my corpse/ghost. They circled my corpse and continued to fire, only they made such a tight circle that they would hit each other. After awhile, while waiting for the countdown, the Minotaurs chipped away at each others shields and finally two fo the 3 had been killed by the one. I respawned, killed the remaining one, and went on my way. After that the Archon Priest was pretty easy to kill.

Yep. It's probably a bug / exploit also but the regenerating ammo means you can switch Icebreaker out for another weapon on the fly and carry the ammo over, so just owning it means no more running out of secondary ammo.

"Nothing" or just shards / energy? :P

I ran the raid twice this week, yesterday and today (roughly an hour ago) to get up my experience levels more than anything. Running yesterday was my first time this week and yeah, I got a second copy of the shader and only shards / energy as loot, which was really disappointing. I don't know if this is how it used to be before they made shards / energy into legendary items as some of the very early raid walkthroughs I've seen suggest you got shards, energy AND loot but who knows.

I still really enjoy the raid and the mechanics, though both my groups this weekend wanted to do Atheon the easy (buggy) way rather than as the encounter is intended. In a way I'm glad as I don't think either group would have been able to complete Atheon otherwise but I'd have rather got the experience of killing him legitimately.

Yeah that's just RNG at its best unfortunately.

The teleportation 'bug fix' seems like the absolute worst idea. In the group I ran on Saturday who did try to do Atheon the legit way we had some players who ended up deciding they just didn't want to be on the portal team as they couldn't keep up with what was going on, which was perfectly fine. In the new way of doing things that kind of situation would just lead to a wipe and an encounter that couldn't be beaten at all : \

Yes, you'll have to have raid gear to get to 30.  That's why I finally went for it.  The gauntlets I have will get me to a higher level of 29, but I still need the boots and either helmet or chestpiece.  I guess there is evidence that playing it on hard will net you better gear.  That's next on the list.

I had a few Patrol runs today on various planets that worked out like that. There've been some server issues over here lately so I wonder if there's generally just some drama going on.

Finally hit level 29 today. Time to start really committing time to raiding rather than just waiting to see if a group asks me along. I expect I'll try and get a run going tomorrow. I'm still without my Heart of Praxic Fire though, which is like... the only piece of loot I actually really WANT at this point, hahaha.

Tried the raid last night and we got all the way to Atheon after a few wipes, but we had to quit cause some west coasters were getting dinner

My friend and I tried the Nightfall run again this week with just the two of us and we made it all the way to the last two yellow knights before we both got killed. With arc burn on those two are downright deadly, high powered attack with little room to maneuver. My friend got taken down the first time, I ran up and threw up a shield to get him. He died a second time and as I was running to get him I joked, "I hope my shield doesn't go down," so of course it did and the game kicked us back to orbit.

I really wish they would do more special events, aside from Iron Banner (http://www.polygon.com/2014/10/25/7070687/destiny-promises-a-beefed-up-iron-banner-before-the-end-of-the-year)

This week's Nightfall mission doesn't have any burn, which kind of sucks, but it's pretty easy to do. My friend and I did it with just the two of us and managed to do it pretty easily. All you have to do is find the different holes you can fall into and you'll be protected from Valus Ta'aurc's minions, then you just take pot shots at him. I guess each side of the room as a spot you can do this in.

Playing the Iron Banner hardcore to get the legendary item I need that can get me to lvl. 30. Twice tonight we have been robbed of a victory by a last minute surge by the other team
Title: Re: Destiny (xbox 360)
Post by: Blyss on 25 Nov 2014, 10:45
So, as of about 2 in the morning, I managed to get all three of my characters to rank 5 with the Iron Banner.  I was able to get both pieces of armor for 2 of them and 1 piece for the third, and the scout rifle.  I liked the fusion rifle as well, but was out of time and/or glimmer.  In all honesty, the hardest to get there was the warlock, but I never took her into the iron banner the first time they were around, so her rank started at 0 this time.

I now have 5 Timur's Lashes and 4 Jolder's Hammers from match rewards.  A friend of mine got the legendary ship, so that was pretty cool.  I had fun with the Iron Banner, WHEN I could find a match that seemed legit.  There was a whole lot of lag switching going on, as was evident by the new connection indicator on the roster menu.  When an entire team went to red connections and they all just happened to be teleporting around the map as well, it became pretty obvious.

I did get one match where I suspect everyone on the enemy team reported me for cheating, but was absolutely nothing but stupid luck on my part.  I got 44 kills and more than doubled the rest of my team's score.  There were literally several times where I fully expected to die in the middle of a huge clusterfuck, and then walked away with a tiny sliver of health.  So yeah, I honestly would have reported me too, because it was just ludicrous.

I still think Bungie needs to work on the things that actually need fixing, like the RNG and the drop rate (which is still incredibly unfair) rather than shit that doesn't need fixing.  I hate the response from game companies that ends up being, "You're playing our game wrong because that wasn't what we intended..."  It's like I'm being told I'm wrong for playing the game, and I've never understood that mentality.
Title: Re: Destiny (xbox 360)
Post by: RedWolf4 on 27 Nov 2014, 23:42
That's an easy mentality to understand. "We paid all this money and even with all this hype, we still had huge parts of the game that were about as polished as a pensioners ceiling fan. However, we also made a fuckton of money irregardless of what we did wrong, and quite frankly minimum effort is good enough for now. So fuck you, valued consumer."

So, word is that now they are going to reset everyone to zero when the iron banner comes back to town, because people complained it was too hard to reach rank 5.  I counter that argument with the fact that I did it with all three characters.  Yes, my hunter was already rank 3, because I busted my ass in there the LAST time the iron banner was around.  They didn't reset everyone last time (supposedly) because the community basically told them, "fuck no!"

If they do indeed reset everyone, and I lose all of the progress I made, I will not be playing the iron banner in protest.  In fact, if they do that, I'll never play Iron Banner again.  Oh, and I'm actually kind of pissed off at their "Drcrispy93" marketing troll, and his bullshit about telling everyone about how great the maps and weapons are that they can't have yet.  Because, you know, he can.  It is quite possibly the worst marketing campaign I've seen in my life.  It actually makes me not want to play the game.  Pretty sure it isn't supposed to work that way.

EDIT2: Patch is live, update should be live. If you don't see it, restart your game.

1.1 : The one about Exotics. And the Raid!

Today's patch includes the long-awaited arrival of Exotics weapon buffs, additional acquisition paths for destination upgrade materials, along with additional changes to exotic gear node upgrading in preparation for the soon-to-be-released expansion, The Dark Below. We're also correcting issues induced by our more recent update to the Raid.

Weapons

Exotics

Exotic Weapons are designed to look, feel, and sound overpowered. At the same time, they are not supposed to break the balance of the game. We hope these weapons challenge the way players think about their loadouts. Exotics will be a constant work in-progress!
General

In preparation for the Dark Below, Exotic Armor and Weapons no longer require Ascendant Materials to upgrade
The final upgrade node of all Exotic Gear will require an Exotic Shard
Exotic Shards can be obtained by one of the following means:
Dismantling unwanted Exotics
Purchased from Xur for 7 Strange Coins
Exotics now start at a higher base Attack value and have a narrowed upgrade range to compensate
Thorn

Projectiles now briefly highlight targets on impact
Mark of the Devourer DoT (damage-over-time) upgrade increased against PvE enemy targets
Damage is back up to 7/tick in PvP
Reload Speed increased
Magazine Size increased
Ammo inventory size increased
Stability and Weapon Handling increased
Bad Juju

Magazine Size increased to 8 bursts (was 5)
Ammo inventory size increased
String of Curses now also decreases the cooldown of your Super on kill
Adjusted effects to not block first person reticle
Hard Light

Stability increased
Perfect Balance upgrade replaced by Fitted Stock (increases maximum possible weapon Stability)
Suros Regime

Lowered total damage at the end of the mag on SUROS Regime upgrade to be more in line with the Glass Half Full perk on Legendary Auto Rifles
Monte Carlo

Stability increased
Range slightly decreased
Monte Carlo Method upgrade now also has a chance to fully charge melee ability on kill
MIDA Multi-Tool

MIDA rounds now have increased knockback against targets in both PvE and PvP
Hawkmoon

Send It upgrade (which was redundant) replaced by Speed Reload
Red Death

Rate of Fire increased slightly, but Burst Damage reduced to compensate
Plan C

Weapon Handling speed increased
Player Speed increased while Plan C is in hand
Pocket Infinity

Speed Reload upgrade replaced by Extended Clip which allows the option to increase magazine size (5 bursts)
Vex Mythoclast

Attack Power increased to 323 (from 300)
Base Damage increased, fixing bug we introduced in previous patch
Enhanced Battery upgrade by Extended Mag (this change still allows for a significant upgrade to Magazine Size, but less than before)
Invective

Reload Speed increased significantly, auto fires slightly slower
Ice Breaker

Send It upgrade replaced by Lightweight (which was redundant as Icebreaker already had maximum range)
New effects for enemies killed by Ice Breaker upgrade
Patience and Time

Snapshot upgrade replaced by Custom Optics (provides a lower zoom option)
Super Good Advice

Stability increased
Truth

Magazine Size increased to 3 (was 1)
If you only see 2 in your mag, head to a planet and RELOAD.

Holy crap they made materials easier to get.

Just when I stop loving them, they go and do something like this. . . *Sniff*

Cept now you can't trade in materials for Crucible/Vanguard points

In other news, wild packs of Hive have been roaming the Cosmodrome, and if you kill the knight you get his sword

Sooooo....  yeah.  The DLC unlocked the content on the disc.  Big surprise there.

I have to say, and I like this game remember, that the money paid for the "expansion" was far more than they should have charged.  I'm very disappointed, to say the least.  I honestly cannot recommend buy the expansion, unless you are such a ludicrous completionist that you simply have to.  It's just not worth it, and that really bothers me.

I'm also upset with Bungie about HOW they released it.  Not having a secondary Nightfall strike for the week for people that didn't buy the expansion was just poor planning, and looks lazy/greedy.  This is not how a game company should be treating their players.

The whole thing really kind of took the wind out of my sails about this game, to be totally honest.  I'm still playing, and still having fun, but I honestly can't recommend anyone get this now.  It really looks like you're going to be screwed unless you're will to shell out more and more money along the way.  Terrible business model, that.

 :-(

I guess it's a matter of how much they actually want to REALLY listen to the consumers. Because they kept SAYING they were.

And then we got the Dark Below.

Smells more like they were listening to the pure gameplay stats to me.

I was considering returning to Destiny for The Dark Below but everything I've heard about it has dissuaded me - I got a Season Pass so it wouldn't have cost me anything, either.

I stopped playing a few months back because of something really trivial and haven't felt any desire to return so far. I basically solo'd a Nightfall (a significant time investment, as I'm sure you can imagine) and got like 9 Strange Coins out of it. Realising I could've just run the Heroic instead and the fact that I hadn't used my stack of Strange Coins for anything for months due to Xur constantly having the same gear, I made the connection that I could either play the game for hours with the very real potential of getting nothing useful - I still hadn't had any raid drops aside from shards and energies - or I could just do something else with my time.

So far the 'do something else' has been staying on top and I've not put the disc back in my PS4 since that day. I want something incredible to happen and shake things up but I feel like they're happy enough with the formula that nothing is really going to change. House of Wolves is apparently going to unlock some more areas already in the game so it won't be until the next DLC after that where we have the potential to see some completely new, fresh content.

Or it'll wait for the inevitable sequel.

Well this is a new experience for me.  Apparently I was in a crucible match with a twitch tv'er named crynowplease.  According to him, I was "redbarred" the entire match and he recorded it and all of his viewers are going to report me for cheating...  just, wow.

I didn't even do that well.  It's kind of mind baffling that this guy thought I was cheating when he killed me repeatedly, and I only killed him a couple of times, and another guy on the other teamgot a five kill streak on me alone because of how the game kept spawning me.

I honestly don't even know what to say to it.

Amazing night in Destiny. Did the raid with my main and got the chest piece I needed to hit 32. After we'd finished we decided to run it again with our secondaries, one guy dropped out while another stayed just to help us. We manage to get all the way to Crota with a 5 man team, some how we made it through the lanterns without trying to and we managed to cheese the bridge even after the fix, two of us made it through the closing doors and we managed to kill Ir Yut. She dies, everything finally starts despawning, and I get fucking GJALLARHORN!!!! I also get enough Radiant Shards and Radiant Energy to hit 32 next week in time to do the raid on hard mode.

THE HUNT HAS BEGUN. The update has dropped, and with it the Queen's Emissary has returned to the tower with some new bounties. Now instead of the Blades of Crota we have drop ships from the house of wolves on Earth and Venus to fight, each defeat brings a special bonus. You have to search for a chest for a limited amount of time and you can get gear, upgrade materials, engrams you can't decipher yet, and even keys to the Prison of Elders. Also I guess coins have started dropping in Crucible

I'm having a lot of fun, but here's the thing that bothers me about this: ALL of this should have been the initial release.  Had they done that, no one would have been complaining about the amount of content.  The prison of elders is fun and I definitely want to try the trials of Osiris, but I'm still bitter about the fact that this was not how this game should have been released.

And with the announcement that The Taken King will be $40, I'm done with Destiny.  I'm still playing the House of Wolves stuff, but I'm not going to drop another $40 on a game that I've already spent $95 with the game and the Season Pass.  It never really lived up to my expectations, and I'm just done.  I could have MAYBE seen another $20, but not $40 more.

Absolutely agree Blue Kitty.  I'm not sure why Bungie doesn't pay more attention to it, but it deserves far more scrutiny than it is getting.  I have managed 8 wins - once.  At this point, lag switchers have basically ruined any chance I've even remotely had to get to the lighthouse.  It's incredibly frustrating.

Decided I wanted to try Trials again so I found some people on looking for group and we did alright. Not gonna lie, they basically carried me through. We got 5 wins down on my token before we had to split up/I had to leave so I got the awesome looking Titan helmet.

But man, they talked like they were in middle school despite the fact that I'm pretty sure they were both older than me. What is it about playing with random people that always seem to think it's okay to use the words gay, fag, and retard constantly?

I don't know why it seems so acceptable, but I tend to stop people from song it when they're on with me, or else they get removed from my friends list.  I make it known to them up front and some of the people I play with did it at first, but no longer do it.  It really bugs me, truth be told.
