Title: 2 songs you think everyone should hear:
Post by: Jamoky on 20 Dec 2004, 23:53
Topic stolen from another forum.
you only get 2, so make em' good. (and no cheating!)

It could be a song that changed your life in a way, or just your favorite song, or a good song by a undescovered band that you think needs descovering, or whatever.  preferably give a links to where we could listen to your songs.

ok 1 2 3 go!

Xasthur - In The Hate of Battle (or Soul Abduction Ceremony)
Anorexia Nervosa - Enter The Church Of Fornication

With both of these songs, you'd have to listen the whole way through, not just get put off by the vocals, to understand why I'd suggest them.

Good topic BTW.  I'm gonna give an effort to try and listen to everyone's 2 songs that they post.

Rage Against The Machine - Wake Up (changed my life)
Slipknot - Wait and Bleed

Great thread idea. 2 is an excellent number for this sort of deal.

Halo - "Feel" (Good luck getting hold of that one, damn record company dropping them :( )

My Dying Bride - Grace Unhearing

Neither are groundbreaking or anything, just two of my favourites right now

Jeff Buckley - Dream Brother.
The Smashing Pumpkins - Soma.

First one, just a very beautiful, very calming song i think people should hear. The last one is being pimped because well..it's my favourite song (which has influenced many an online alias may i add).

The Postal Service - Such Great Hights
I Am Kloot - Proof

Just happens to be my two favorite songs at the moment and has been ever since I heard them the first time. I guess they aint that special but they have somehow helped my mood and life during some bad stuff.

Yay for good music and nice lyrics (in my humble opinion).

what a bastard topic! only 2 choices...

Rearviewmirror - Pearl Jam
Feeling So Real - Moby

Neither of these are my "favorite" songs, but they both had very profound effects on my life. These are both songs you have to *feel* to appreciate, Rearviewmirror being particularly powerful when youa re feeling a bit angsty or down, and Feeling So Real having the exceptional abilty to lift ones spirits. I suggest that your first listen to feeling so real be done with your eyes closed, with the volume at high level and the bass turned up.

Oh yeah, if you want to give Feeling So Real a listen, make sure you get the album version (from "Everything is Wrong) because moby had a tendency of remixing all of his earlier work 435645 times. Say what you will about him now, but "Everything Is Wrong" continues to be one of the most relevant and exceptionally produced electronic albums of all time.

Both of mine are from one artist, but he's had a huge impact on how I write, and play music.

Hawksley Workman - We Will Still Need a Song
Hawksley Workman -  Tarantulove

This is actually a difficult thread too, to decide on just two songs, especially for those of us who delve deeply into music.

Joe Satriani - Day at the Beach
Joe Satriani - The Forgotten (Part 1)

Some of the best guitar work I have ever heard.  Satriani is, in my opinion, the best guitarist alive today.
(Those both count as one song since they are so short and are really almost continuations of each other.)

Talvin Singh - Butterfly

The man can take a Tabla and a Sitar and make some of the coolest music ever with them.  It's frikking amazing.

I will be linking these up to MP3s later tonight when I get home and have FTP access, and I ask that other do as well if at all possible.  Makes it easier on us that don't have web crawlers to find our music files, and/or don't want to wait for P2P downloads.

John Cage - “4:33

And since I can't think of another song that'd have the same universal tone, I'll say “nothing.

So, “4:33â€? and nothing.  :D

Seriously, since most of my appreciation of music is wrapped up in my personal tastes & feelings, I don't feel qualified in figuring something has universal appeal.  Particularly when even my best friends often hate songs that I absolutely adore.

This Is The One by the Stone Roses

I'd have to put Waterfall in at the same time This is The One as I did until last year play it every single morning.  for a period of about 3 years.

The second one might change, but right now it'd be Current 93's "Dormition and Dominion".

Wire - Outdoor Miner

and

The Velvet Underground - Sunday Morning

are required listening.

The Decemberists - The Legionnaire's Lament
Against Me! - Beginning in an Ending

This was uber-difficult to decide but in the end I chose the Decemberists because everyone should like that song and Against Me! because it's the best acoustic song I've ever heard.

Guitar Vader- "Perfect Bird" from the album "From Dusk"
Judy and Mary- "Brand New Wave Upper Ground" from the album "Warp" (and others)

I might upload some Flash versions of those songs later, if time permits. '-'

exliontamer- Dang dude, last thing I thought I'd see was a Pillows fan on here. '-'
(unless your avatar refers to your username and nothing else)

Love The Pillows, but couldn't really think of a single song to place as a "must hear".  All their stuff as a whole is really , really good.

Nick Drake - "Time Has Told Me" always relaxes me when I'm stressed out. As does Opeth - ...well, any Opeth song.

Also, uhh, I guess Rush - Entré Nous. Nobody really pays attention to that song, but it owns.

There are many others I love, but I feel that everyone either has probably heard them or would be turned off by their metalness.

some great listings here.

there is no way I can narrow it down to only two songs, the more you think about "2" songs, the more songs will pop into your head.

the first one that pops into my head as -life altering- is "I Know You" by Henry Rollins (Nine Inch Nails "A Warm Place" is the music, Rollins just supplied the perfect voice for it).

as for a song I feel everyone needs to hear at least once?  the cover of "One" by Johnny Cash.

Yeah, you should definitely check out their other stuff if you get a chance. It's all equally as catchy and awesome. Plus some of the songs on FLCL were edited/re-recorded for the show. Also, if you can find it, check out the side project Nine Miles and their album "Solomonic Polar Bear". Its the best Japanese ska/reggae I've ever heard.

"Blackbird" by the Beatles. Yeah, you laugh. Some people have actually never heard this song, which I consider to be almost a crime.

And a better RL Burnside song is "Stole My Check."

The Smashing Pumpkins - 1979 (You can´t die before listening to it!)

Agreed, sir. On both counts.

This thread is even harder than top albums/bands/whatever... you've raised the steaks Jamoky!

I'm sure everyone has already heard both of these songs, and I'm not repeating any that have already been done.
"Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometimes" - Beck
I'm a big fan of Beck's work - he covers a lot of ground without losing depth. This song is simple, almost classic in its lyrical styling, but evocative. Oh, and it comes from a great movie.
"Paranoid Android" - Radiohead
I don't think there's been enough Radiohead in this thread, so I'll add this song. It was originally three different themes, but they put them all together and the result is one of their most diverse and intricate songs. I think it showcases not only their talent, but also the diversity of their styles.

Dimmu Borgir-Puritania

It stomps, it crushes, it destroys, it fuses classical music with industrial techno and heavy metal.  Emerging from the static it marches straight from hell and starts eating things. It's got every cliche, every stomping military march-beat, a sample of one of Hitlers speeches in the background, the greatest use of sweep-pads ever in music, and it ends with a crackling radio voice saying "Earth successfully erased" in a heavy norwegian accent. Wonderful. Like nuclear war set to music.

Finntroll-Slaget Vid Blodsalv

Death! Evil! Black Metal! Accordions! Finntroll were once described as the soundtrack to a barn-dance in hell. They're that and so much more. This song  is so wildly energetic and insanely powerful that it just blows you away. Reeling in like a drunken viking horde and looting everything in site, the song builds up to a peak before blasting off the most insanely spirit-soaring keyboard section ever over a primal war-cry that carries the song back on again to even more dizzying heights. It's a bar brawl of a song, a mad screaming drunken dance tune, filled to the flim with a sense of cheerful malice. This band isn't just going to kill the christian scum, they're going to make a party out of it, and the word 'quaffing' is definitely going to be involved. It's the musical equivalent of the Gremlins. Choosing a single track from this amazing band was very hard indeed, but it's the war cry thingy at 1:20 that really makes this song stand out from the crowd. Other really good finntroll tracks include Trollhammaran, Fiskarens Fiende, Jaktens Tid, Midnattens Widunder, the acoustic Forsvinn Du Som Lyser, Der Hornkronte Konungen and Svartberg.

For once, two I've heard both of... yay!
'Oxygen' is a recent find thanks to someone on my lj flist.. it is very good.  I need to put it on a mix soon, so I don't have to bring up my playlist just to hear it anymore.

The 'Bright Eyes' was my fav. in '01... I actually karaoke'd (sang horribly from memory) it for a boy I didn't like yet, but was on the verge of liking... that moment could've ruined it... not sure if it's a good or bad thing.

Willy Mason - Oxygen
Bright Eyes - Haligh, Haligh, a lie Haligh

about 100 more to add, but will be good...

That's funny...I have memories of singing that song with an emo boy I really like in the middle of my local indie club, to the point where you could hear it above the music.  Again, nothing's happened as yet, but I have my fingers crossed.  If it doesn't, I shall blame it on that song, and not my shameful drunken rendition of it...or all the other reasons people never hook up...

Heh.  in my case, something did happen, but it ended in a lot of drama, so reason for whether or not it was a good thing... if only the song scared him away!  oh noes!

Anyway, g'luck with that!

The Cure: The Lovecats
Cursive: The Rhyme Scheme

when I was a kid I think my moms taste in oldies really influenced me too. the first time I ever heard music that I thought was moving was when I was 7 or 8 listening to buddy holly or diana ross with her. I'm sure that had to have rubbed off on me in some way

YES! Lovecats is the best Cure song in ever. I listen to that every time I... do... stuff. That song is my theme song almost virtually. Anyways:

My two would have to be:
Trilogy - Emerson, Lake, and Palmer
(If you can find a better classic prog rockout than this, I will most certainly love you forever. The piano at the begining is the definition of keyboard mastery and then Emerson kicks it into electric, and still plays better than almost any other person has ever played.)

Please, Mr. B - The Sugarplastic
(This song is three things. Firstly, it can relax me even when i am majorly pissed off. It doesn't make me irritable, or more angry, or get me ready to vent. It just calms me. Second, it is the Topangan theme song. The second verse is about Topanga. Thirdly, it is beautiful, slow, and nirvana-inducing to the point of complete serenity.)

The Echoing Green -- She's Gone Tragic
depressing lyrics set to very cheery, techno, this song somehow never fails to put me in a good mood, and it's just enjoyable

Gackt - Last Song
personal reasons-- essentially, it's a song about losing someone and keeping a good attitude about it, and current events just made it relevant for me

or, to keep both songs in English, substitute Athenaeum -- Lifeline for "Last Song"

"Everyone's your friend
in New York City
And everything looks beautiful
When you're young and pretty"

Hell yes. And I most definately agree to "Paranoid Android" as well. It is likely my fave radiohead song. That or Subterranean Homesick Alien. Just cause of the way Tom Yorke says "Lost it completely". So much awesome. And "P.S. You Rock My World" holds some of the world's best life philosophy set to music.

Anyhow. I'm putting two more.

Carousel - Mr. Bungle
Has ever a song been co-ordinated as well as this? And with horns, and Mike Patton singing and about an evil circus? Nothing can compete.

God's Away On Business - Tom Waits
Evil incarnate.

hm.. Guess I'll throw in two of my own, both being of the kind that I listen to when I wish I could just dissapear. (Instead I end up forgetting things, which is almost as good I guess)

Yoko Kanno - Space Lion
A song most would recognize from the Cowboy Bebop OSTs, it really gives the feeling of life and if I didn't know better I'd say that it was heavily influenced by Jan Garbarek

Sarah Brightman - Eden
A song that makes me just as apathetic as Space Lion, albeit in a completely different way.

Hmm...  gonna have to go with

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works vol. II - Lichen

and

Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days - Each Coming Night

Honestly, I'd tell people to go listen to the entirety of Aphex Twin's ambient works...  the more I listen to it, the better it gets... it's just a work of pure genius.  Using the simplest of compositions and sounds, he conveys a broader range of mood, motion, and color in his sound than most artists could hope to in a whole career.  It's the audial equivalent to a painter drawing a simple circle that summarizes the emotional range of human existance.

Keasby Nights is easily one of the top ten third wave ska songs ever.

Also, I think it is by now realized that everyone should have heard "P.S. You Rock My World" at least once. Get to it, the old woman is honking her horn, and the happy man's taking a walk.

Now, at first, I'd think of this as quite a challenge... picking two good songs out of the god-knows-how-many GB of music on my computer, not to mention the hundreds of old LPs that my parents gave me (since they have no turntable anymore, I inherited automatically when I bought one).

But no, the decision, once I set my mind to the task of whittling down the choices was pretty easy. Well, not really, cause I've got 3 instead of 2... :'[

Praise The Day, by Flashlight Brown Fsck... this is an awesome song... it's about a dude who, when he's a kid, is mistaken for a girl by all his teachers and classmates, and he's all pissed off until he gets old and find's out he can get into ladies night(s) for free.

Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels), by The Arcade Fire Sure maybe it's only because it's playing right now in the background, but this song is my favourite of the album, and Arcade Fire is one of my favourite bands (best live show ever)... it's even higher on my list than before because of the fact that someone stole my CD and the autographed case...

Pulmonary Archery, by Alexisonfire I saw them live, and this was by far the best song of the set (I missed Waterwings, that's why... that's the best moshing song by Alexisonfire), and I've had some good times screaming it with my buddies as we cruised aimlessly on those boring summer nights.

So I cheated... so what? I'm not the first, and probably not the last <O.o>

the first one that pops into my head as -life altering- is "I Know You" by Henry Rollins (Nine Inch Nails "A Warm Place" is the music, Rollins just supplied the perfect voice for it).

Does ANYBODY have this and can send it me somehow, or let me know where to find it? Have looked everywhere and, since 'A Warm Place' is currently one of my super faves I must have it, heh.

Two songs everyone should hear... firstly I'd say 'The Great Below' by NIN, blows me away every time.

Secondly... hm... most of the songs that affect me the most have personal memories attached to them while the song isn't particularly groundbreaking in any way... I'd go with Rob Dougan's 'I'm Not Driving Anymore'. Much good.

Just two songs? Well I believe everyone has to have heard a maiden song in their lifetime, and it still depresses me that some have not.

So here's the first Iron Maiden song I ever heard.

Iron Maiden - Rainmaker

http://s41.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0TBQIIUVXJCOR1FT104A11Y4WH

Next is, I think, the first song I ever heard from Iced Earth - part of the Something Wicked trilogy. It gets better every time I listen to it.

Iced Earth - The Coming Curse

Happy Cycling - Boards of Canada

It's beautiful and you're a tin man if it doesn't pull some strings.

Steinbolt - Squarepusher

I don't know... It's not the most insane piece of music I've ever heard, but I think it treads the line of rhythm, chaos, energy, and melody very well. It also holds a place in my heart for a personal reason. So maybe not everyone would think it was as good as I do.

I have another song that I would love to put down, but it would be terribly weak of me to divulge.

It's just that it's a song that I can't imagine anyone objecting to. The only reasons I could think of that someone would say they didn't like it would be that it didn't "ROCK!" enough, or something like that, in which case I think that's more the fault of the listener.
Title: 2 songs you think everyone should hear:
Post by: Robbo on 01 Jun 2005, 13:12
Well, people do object to it, and not just because it doesn't "ROCK!" enough...what about those that dont think it's "old enough" for Classical purists, or that electronica is the way to go, etc, etc.

Consdering I listen to some very low-fi ambient stuff, I dont think it being too soft is an issue for me. Specially when some of what you consider to be "HEAVY ROCK!" is some of the stuff I think of as soft.

I guess you're comfortable with failing then, such as missing the point of my post. The point was relativity. She likes metal, so if she doesn't like something, it's because she likes Metal, which I'm guessing is a lot different than that.

The Metal Gods and I are on fine terms. I love Iron Maiden/Judas Priest/Dream Theatre. It's called variety...and not liking some asshole cookie-monster impersonator making me laugh when the music is supposed to be dark and powerful.

*Shrug* doesn't mean we view Eels as a good example of anything like that.

Merkava, if Khar doesn't like something, it's not gonna be just because he "likes Metal" as you he likes more that just that. Will be something to do with the fact it doesn't fit his idea of good music.

Man that cookie monster comment has gotten old real fast though. People use alternate vox for a reason, because they suit the music and they're part of it. Just like Opera.

Damn, I knew I should have qualified that. But I was just heading out to the pub.

It didn't make me go all 'AAAGGHRRR I MUST TURN MY SPEAKERS OFF AND LISTEN TO SARCOFAGO AND MAYHEM BOOTLEGS AT THE SAME TIME TILL MY EARS BLEEEEED' or anything like that, it's just it's....well...why on earth would it be a song anyone would need to hear? I mean, it was pretty boring. I mean, it was kinda like Simon and Garfunkel, except if  they were on Ketamine. That's my opinion of it anyway. It's ok...it's just not revolutionary or even really interesting. I mean, there's tracks that have just hit me in the face, like the first time I listened to 'Strange Volk' by Ewigkeit, or 'Born to the Fight' by Waylander, or the first time I properly listened to a Burzum song, stuff like that. Compared to which that was a vert light biff on the nose. With a feather. That's why I made the comment about musical taste: because that would qualify as a 'MUST LISTEN' track. Surely a 'MUST LISTEN' would be something insanely revolutionary, or astonishingly profound, or mind-blowingly virtuous, or something?
Title: 2 songs you think everyone should hear:
Post by: blindsuperhero on 01 Jun 2005, 14:20
I chose it as a must-listen song because it's the most positive-outlook triumph-through-adversity song I know, sure, your sister may have killed herself and your mum's just died of cancer, but, you know, maybe it's time to live. I personally think it *is* astonishingly profound, the way the music and the lyrics just perfectly capture what is (as I've just demonstrated) quite a hard-to-describe emotion. It's positive without ignoring the bad stuff, happy without being joyous, just, amazing, really.
Title: 2 songs you think everyone should hear:

But...it's not uplifting at all? It's a dull song...how does that stir and inspire you? I don't get it man, it's not even a particularly happy mood...I mean, this may sound a bit one minded, but compared to the songs that uplift me, that's nothing. It's like a cup of weak tea to an amphetamine addict. I'm talking about stuff like, I dunno, Nightwish - Elvenpath, Bathory - One Rode to Asa Bay, Finntroll - Slaget Vid Blodsalv,  Waylander - Sunrise, Skyclad - Polkageist!, Blackmore's Night - Village on the Sand, ANY Hammerfall song, not just rock stuff, folk and so on as well...I dunno, stuff that's really uplifting, powerful, mighty, the much mentioned 'power of metal' comes into it I suppose...I know many may not get it, but how can you argue with this?

Hammerfall - Hammerfall

Silent screaming, you're on your own
Balancing on a blade
Between what's right and what is wrong
Don't loose your faith, don't sit there in silence
Show your strength, let's hail the metal Gods,
Bare your heart

All for one, our burning hearts will live forever
One for all, together standing strong

Hammerfall - we will prevail
Hammerfall - let us hail

Hammerfall - we will prevail
Hammerfall - let us hail

We share a dread, the future is ours
A Metal Heart is hard to tear apart, heed the call
A flash of light calls out the providers
We run this race, but we will never crawl, all hail
Hammerfall

All for one, our burning hearts will live forever
One for all, together standing strong

Hammerfall - we will prevail
Hammerfall - let us hail
Hammerfall - we will prevail
Hammerfall - let us hail

Just follow your heart, don't listen to the crowd
The wisdom, the voice is calling from inside
The time long forgotten will soon come again
Prepare for the meeting, the Gods of Metal reign

I mean, seriously. Add to that some good soaring choirs and uplifting guitar...that's how to live.

But that's the point! It's about accepting the reality of a cruel, heartless world, not creating some fantasy where everything is fantastic, but realising that, when it all comes down to it, maybe it's better to live. I could think of thousands of songs that are happier than that one, but if you're feeling really depressed, and you play one of those songs, you just can't relate to it, it just doesn't fit your mood. This song does fit your mood, yet leaves you thinking that maybe everything will be okay

No no, you've missed the point! The Hammerfall song isn't about living in a dream, it's about sticking a big middle finger to the world and then doing whatever the fuck you want with your life. Basically, the whole point of metal is dissatisfaction with the world, beyond a sort of teenage 'boo-hoo, nobody loves me'. It seeks not to fit in with the world and live in bland, boring obscurity, it seeks to get out there and go toe to toe with everything it doesn't like, to bite it's armoured thumb at every value, creed and event that it doesn't like and, most importantly, to Keep rocking the fuck on. If metal ever becomes safe, boring, and pedestrian, then it has either succeeded and transformed the world, or it has failed totally.

The reason metal is never going to change the world, of course, is because it is a vastly political and philosophically disunited force. But it doesn't fucking care. It keeps rocking on, and extols it's fans to keep rocking the fuck on too. And everyone not rocking and breaking the envelope? They can bugger off.

Really, this could be expanded into a vast essay. But, basically, metal is awesome and rocks. I'm listening to Wuthering Heights - Land of Olden Glory atm, and ye goodness, do I feel great.

Hmm, but it's still kind of fighting against the reality of a cruel world (or whatever it was that I said), instead of accepting it. I mean, it's just a different approach to the same problem, and I suppose some people are more inclined to one or the other. But maybe, if you (in the general sense; 'one') ever get tired of fighting the world (which, I presume, will not happen so long as there is ROCK! to fuel you), then that Eels song will help :)

As a fan of both indy and metal and just about everything else, I'd like to say that the music one listens as compared to the music of others doesn;t really matter. What's really important is that you love the music you listen to, not what other people think of it. Especially living here in lack-luster LA. Oy Vay. Anyone who thinks this ass-town is cultured, go get shanked; hard, fast, and mercilessly.

Quiet man, you sound like you may be talking moderation, maybe even sense!

See, dude... where I listened to the Eels song and didn't particularily like it too much (finding it a bit uninspriring... don't kill me, hero :(), I'm not going to run out and say the person who suggested it has a bad taste in music based on that song alone... hell, I wouldn't even have brought it up if not for the insane twist this thread suddenly took... prolly woulda just raised the horns and said, "Rock On, Eels fan" or whatever...

Just 'cause you dislike something doesn't mean you have to piss all over that something, to which a certain group - whose views may just differ from yours - has shown devotion...

Now, Khar, given that you are perpetually extolling the virtues of Metal - which, to be fair, you've suggested some pretty killer music, I must admit - and under MOST circumstances no-one tells you your music sucks (I can't know for sure, I haven't read all the threads), it was probably a bit hasty to jump out and start Eels-bashing...

But oh well... whatever.. can't really change the past... but maybe (hopefully) we can get back to the core issue of this thread (read: Suggested Listening)... 'cause there's been some pretty good music suggested so far.

(I'm probably going to get attacked by everyone involved in this argument for writing this, but oh well)

You'll only be attacked if everyone involved is a retard, which I don't think they are. Given that this thread is probobly about one mod read-through away from a lock, it's high time it headed back on topic.

Two songs, eh?

Boards of Canada - Turqoise Hexagon Sun
65daysofstatic - Retreat! Retreat!

Damn. No Hip-Hop. Oh well, I guess times have changed.

Submission Hold - Source of Fuck
Fugazi - Merchandise

Oh, and since Skullflower were mentioned a little while ago, I'll just add that they're fully mint. Listen to them people, for they are good.

@ Jeridus: You're obviously not a cunt! Get more angry and bitter! RAAGGHR

I can't remember what I picked now.

Hrmmm.

Burzum - Ea, Lord of the Deeps

Skyclad - Vintage Whine

angry huh?

GRR... *anger sounds*, */me yells*!

*Jeridus' brain suddenly explodes with the feeble attempt at anger*

Now, even though I've already put two songs (well, actually, three... :$), I
ve got a couple more:

Darkest Of The Hillside Thickets -- The Math Song ... ... it's actually about math, and the whole song is a big, hilariously done equation where you try to figure out the value of Y... fun stuff for people like me who are out of school right now and trying to stay smart(ish) until university starts back up

and

Rush -- 2112... okay, you can hate the vocals (Geddy Lee may be high pitched for some, but given that I listen to Coheed and Cambria, it's not an issue for me), you can hate some of the miscellaneous synth that gets thrown in, hell, you can even hate the guitar at times... but listen to the drums, people... Neil Peart is goddamn amazing

I shall politely step over the debate and rejoin as the now on-topicness that has begun on the other sid... ;)

I did a couple ages ago, but time for more...also, Asturge has made this easier by using two tracks which are high on my list, so..

Maria Taylor - Song Beneath the Song (so pretty! Even prettier than Azure Ray! And I get to include a song with Bright Eyes cunningly guesting on it without it actually being Bright Eyes!)

and...

Flying Burrito Brothers - Hot Burrito #1 (I want to marry Gram Parsons for his voice alone, though I think I missed the boat by a few decades. Oh well.)

Please, I listen to Power bands that make Geddy sound like a manly man~! 2112 rocks all kind of shit, like lots of Rush does.

Mad Season- Long Gone Day(My favorite song of all time, simply amazing)
Grateful Dead- Touch Of Grey

And since everybody's doing it, the third would be

Mother Love Bone- Chloe Dancer/Crown Of Thorns(not just crown of thorns, must be the full version)

so many more I want to add...

They certainly do... me, I like the Necromancer, but most people tend to pass over The Caress Of Steel, cause it's seems so nerdy

I thought that debate was quite well-conducted. I'm surprised at everyone implying it was some kind of flame war, or that it would get the thread locked

Indeed, it's one of the better cival convos that I've seen. People just want to think talking about Metal is banned it seems.

Man, this thread is so impossible. Today, I am in a space rock mood, and am totally convinced that it is an act of severe criminality to go to ones grave without having heard:

Pink Floyd - One of These Days

Hawkwind - Masters of the Universe

!! whoa... Khar... you've got Floyd on there? dude... that song IS awesome, but seriously woudn't have expected it from you

"ONE OF THESE DAYS I'M GOING TO CHOP YOU INTO LITTLE PIECES"

'Tis an awesome bass-line to open

Lol, it's pretty common for Metalheads to like Prog Rock, specially the generation that grew up with Prog-heads are parents.

*Plugs a bass into an echo box and starts rocking along*

My good sir. I love Pink Floyd. I have inherited almost their entire decent* discography on vinyl, apart from Animals, which I bought on CD. They are very rockalicious, and were my gateway into progressive and experimental music.

To be honest, people who don't like Pink Floyd are silly people, and probably not my sort at all.

*The Final Cut is called that for a reason, people. Though there is some ok stuff off A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell.

Heheheh... yeah, didn't much like the new, Waters-less stuff quite so much... especially not that song where, for some reason, the Steven Hawking voice keeps coming in... personally, I prefer Meddle, Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, and Wish You Were Here (between Have A Cigar, Wish You Were Here, and Shine On You Crazy Diamond, I'd say that's the best)

No, the "you suck, you listen to metal, no you suck because you don't" 'debate' was just fine the first, second, third and even fourth millionth time it was had. It was more than fine in the numerous topics where it actually had some possible relevence to the topic, eg The topic Khar made a while back on uh... metal. I love to see some debate that doesn't (often) dissolve into pitiful flaming in those threads. That's what this forum is here for, as well as scenster points contests. My problem is that an obscene number of threads seem to end up with the same people having the same argument. Again. And again. And again. And again.
That being said, it was pretty civil this time, except for maybe "Downloaded that Eels song and listened to it, and my but you all have crap taste in music." and possibly "you are now officially stupid".

Pretty civil? That was downright nice when you look at most of the net. We have a vocal minority and a vocal spearhead of the majority, of course they're going to keep clashing, it's what happens. I see it as a good thing, because you find new ways to express things and get a point across and that is happening here.

And there's a limited range of people here, so there's only so many view points that will occure on all the possible music topics, it's still advancing. And as I've said before, if Khar and I said some of the things about Indie that people hear have said about Metal (eg judging everything on a set of 30 second amazon clips) we've be against the wall.

The "two goths" is best taked about here. "So, you're a goth then." "Yep, me too." "Cool." "So, yeah....see you later, bye." Sort of what happens if everyone likes the same things or just talks about the stuff they like. Doesn't really get you anywhere.
