So Akira Toriyama is taking the dragon balls out for a spin again with "Dragon Ball Super." More shouting and dialogue spanning 6 episodes before a punch is thrown? Probably. It suppose to take place sometime after the Buu saga.

They say "after the Buu saga", but didn't Z end right after that? Are they saying GT doesn't exist, or does it take place after that? Or does Buu somehow come back in GT? (I've never watched GT)

I think that's what they're saying. From what I remember he didn't really work on GT or was heavily pressured into doing it, though I hear it was the same for the Buu Saga.
Here's what I had to say about this on facebook:
Am I the only one that heard the news of a new Dragon Ball series and thought, "No, please, let it die"?

Oh ok, so I don't need to watch GT before this?

If you can help it, do not. Nothing good comes from GT
