I'm Tichy, have been reading the comic since 2008. I check the forums about once a week, thought I might finally make an account so I can discuss the latest strip with you folks. I like to hear other's opinions and I'm not afraid to voice my own, either. I spend most of my time living in GMT+1.

In spite of the rumours I'm not Ankh's professor (as far as I know). However, that professor may in their spare time be a space travelling Münchhausen, ever in search of adventure.

So, hi again! The last few weeks I couldn't access the forums, instead it had a message saying I was subject of a ban which was "not set to expire". Glad to be back, of course, but I'm still curious - how do I find out what happened? I thought of messaging one of the moderators, but I don't assume everybody knows what the rest is doing - and of course they have better stuff to do than answer questions from newbies. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to argue. I've been on the internet long enough to know that message boards are under absolute rule (and they work well that way).

I wrote a reply yesterday, but then seem to have blown it away...
The only way I can imagine this happening is for a previous IP ban to have included an IP which gets recycled, and for you to have received this IP for a period. That's a pretty big coincidence in the timescale involved, but it's all I can think of. I can try checking the ban lists and the logs of hits on them to try to find one that is likely to be in the same ISP block as your current address, but identifying one such might be difficult.
All I can suggest is that if it ever happens again, you contact me from another place, or using a browser or Tapatalk on a mobile phone, and let me know your IP address at the time of failure - then it would be a quick fix.

Nice to see that someone cares about this :-) I don't know if that's really what happened, unless the IP ban uses browser cookies for extra stickiness.
* I tried from three different locations (two different countries, even), no difference.
* I could access the forum with "private browsing" (or "incognito mode" on Chromium) too, but not login to my account or create a new one.
* And the message had my name in it...
Reversing the polarity didn't help, even after I commutated the neutrino matrix. Thanks for the suggestion with Tapatalk, I will try that next time!

That enabled me to find the cause. You have indeed shared an IP address with a former user, now banned. I have removed the two addresses in the same block as your present one, so the trouble should not recur.
