Inspired by this xkcd comic (http://xkcd.com/1563/) I'd like to start a new forum game. Here's how it goes:
Somebody posts a synonym for a movie title. For example in the aforementioned comic, 'Star Trek' becomes 'Space Trip'. Then other people try to guess which movie is meant and whoever gets it right posts the next movie. Simple, right?
We'll start with an easy one:
The morning meal society
-
Obvs The Breakfast Club
Also easyish: The Interminable Chronicle
Points to House Akima with a small deduction for incorrect grammar.
-
The Never Ending Story?
Travel to the Setting Sun.
-
Journey to the West?
The Unlight Chesshorse
-
I thought it was Go West?
In answer to yours, Batman: The Dark Knight.
My turn:
The Melancholy Siblings
-
No Batman. Just the Dark Knight. As for west, both are movies so both are correct. Yours is the Blues Brothers!
Solitary Flight Above the Clockbird's Abode
-
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Monarchal Insanity: Revenge of the Sith
The Madness of King George III. I was riffing on the early American audience confusion that it was the a second sequel. Revenge of the Sith being the third Star Wars Film.
-
We give up.
New one!
Contemptible Self
-
I figured that it was The Madness of King George, but The Madness of George III was a play, and the film was renamed to make it more obvious that it was specifically about a king and not a person with the same name as two prior generations.
-
Despicable Me!
A Few Enjoy it Vey Warm
-
Some Like It Hot
The Entertainment of the Terminator
-
It's a stretch, but...Night of the Hunter?
The 24 Hours of the Doglike Mammal
-
It's a stretch, but...Night of the Hunter?
Ender's Game.
-
Ahhhhh.
Well, can we still use mine as the next one?
-
Day of the Jackal
Perhaps a little too twisty: Searching for nobody
-
Ha, I thought about doing that one earlier: Finding Nemo (Nemo is Latin for "nobody")
The Muteness of the Baby Sheep
-
Silence of the Lambs.
Information for the Celestial Wayfarer
-
Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy
Aerial Manouvers of the Cartographically Inclined
-
Flight of the Navigator.
Return From to A Upcoming Moment
-
Back to the Future ("Return From to"? )
Meat Products from northern North America
-
Canadian Bacon.
Feline on an elevated temperature housetop.
-
Back to the Future ("Return From to"? )
Hey, cut me some slack, time travel really messes up grammatical tenses (http://www.slate.com/blogs/lexicon_valley/2014/10/20/back_to_the_future_tense_big_bang_theory_and_douglas_adams_on_time_travel.html)
-
Feline on an elevated temperature housetop.
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
Arachnid-Male
-
Spider-Man
An object travelling in air above a home for birds
-
One flew over the cuckoo's nest.
Simon Dish
(A religious background might help)
-
Peter Pan
Big cats with previous owners
-
Secondhand Lions!
A mashed untrue story
-
Pulp Fiction
Visual emission of the power to defy physics
-
The Colour of Magic?
(A religious background might help)
Or rather a Christian one. :P
The Wet Edge.
-
Beat me to it, consarn it.
Pacific Rim? Or am I wayy off?
-
(A religious background might help)
Or rather a Christian one. :P
I nearly wrote that, but then decided to keep the clue just that little bit vaguer.
-
Spider-Man
An object travelling in air above a home for birds
Hey, I've already done that one :p
Also there doesn't seem to be one right now.
-
Spectre within carapace.
(My first version was "Spectre under Remove" - there's an extra e-prize for anyone who can explain that).
-
Ghost in the Shell
I can't explain the remove bit, but I did wonder if a deleted (Unix shell command rm) file that hasn't had its space used for something else could be termed a 'ghost'.
This planet is insufficient
-
The World is Not Enough

-
I can't explain the remove bit,
In the British Public (i.e. private) School system, the classes in secondary school are typically named, starting from the most junior: Shell, Remove, Fifth, First-year Sixth, Second-year Sixth, Upper Sixth; thus, Shell is the class under Remove.
but I did wonder if a deleted (Unix shell command rm) file that hasn't had its space used for something else could be termed a 'ghost'.
I don't know a special term for a deleted file. A process that has stopped responding but is still using resources is called a zombie, though.
-
Weird Science
The Mockery Guy
-
Pacific Rim? Or am I wayy off?
I had in mind The Water Margin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_Margin#Film), but that works too.
-
Jwhouk, I think you've stumped everyone.
-
*Sigh*
The Flim-Flam Man (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061678/). You whippersnappers.
Okay, maybe one you might actually all get:

-

And now, a cartoon!
Bourgeoise Felines
-
The Aristocats
No Canines go to Hell
-
All Dogs Go To Heaven.
Are Aristo-cats bourgeois? À la lanterne!

-
Uh, back the truck up Felix.
We have a WRONG ANSWER on the board.
Try this: Sticky-Spheroid Support Party
-

OK, I propose an informal rule for this game:
If nobody has guessed the right answer after 12 hours, the poster shall re-word the title to make it easier. And if no one still has gotten it after 24 hours, then someone else can post a new title.
And in keeping with that proposed rule:
The Vacation Home in an Arboreal location.

Anyone figured this one out yet?
I'm stumped, all I keep coming up with is The Brave Little Toaster, and I know that that ain't right.
-
Honestly I thought it was that one Wallace any Grommit episode, but then I remembered they went to the moon, not mars
-
That crossed my mind too DF
-
all I keep coming up with is The Brave Little Toaster, and I know that that ain't right.
Eh, close enough. Same series, anyway, the third one, Brave Little Toaster Goes To Mars.
Movie was made for the 5-7 age range, came out the year I turned 5 and taught me that based on the unified field theory, if you tear open a bag of microwave popcorn and hook it to a ceiling fan, you can fly to Mars. Also, the concept of planned obselescence and that there are warrior toasters up there.
I understand why you might not remember it, but oh my god, that movie made an impression on me, and it's on Netflix.
-
Suppose I should have done the whole series instead of just the one, but I was watching the one and lost in childhood reminiscence. There was a song sung by a bunch of balloons, can you blame me for being distracted?
