So does Jeph's new comic dord.horse get its own forum section?
-
Nah, I think one thread is enough for now.
-
I laughed, I cried, it was better than City Face.
-
City Face?
-
It should get its own link, though:
http://dord.horse/ (http://dord.horse/)
-
City Face (http://gunnerkrigg.com/?p=560)
-
Someone needs to to rework that Katy Perry song into a parody.
"Cause I'm comin' at you like a Dord Horse..."
-
Or a Dark Dord.
-
I'm just here to mention that the name he came up with for DORD (Derelict Orbital Reflection Devices) is fucking excellent.
-
New comic up.
-
I think that DORD might be my new favorite comic. I don't know why, but that's how I feel.
-
I love it based on the URL alone.
In my headcanon, DORD is the missing link between QC and Alice Grove.
-
The DORDs were the ones who blinked. They just got tired of being DORDs and wanted to be FORDs (Functioning Orbital Reflector Devices), and that required someone to make them F again.
-

Given that the DORDs have mentioned that all the humans have ceased to exist, I would think it was a long time after Alice Grove...
-
Well, no one knows what happened to the humans.
-
The DORDs only mention "creators", they don't know their shape.
-
Do we even know the sun they're talking about is Sol?
-
I think you're all reading far too much into this. I guess it's just supposed to be fun, and quite frankly, that it is.
-
Must... overanalyze... all the comics! :-D
-
I think you're all reading far too much into this.
No such thing.
-
Are you guys seriously not seeing this?
SGHLSG3606380 is clearly Hanners.
XVSFN45735 is clearly Alice.
I'm also pretty sure GENGDN29359 and AGNGSN4350 are the Vicissitudes, but I haven't figured out which one is supposed to be Ardent and Gavia. RIP.
-
Clearly.
-

I almost detect a note of surprise as I read this post. But clearly I'm misreading, because you appear to have been around here for at least 2,535 posts.
-
Okay...
Next come the fart jokes?
-
Left satellite is us. WE ARE ALL LEFT
SHARK SATELLITE.
-
Also, Right Satellite doesn't fully understand that if their concept of erotic involves boning, there's a good chance that boning at least existed.
-
Okay...
Next come the fart jokes?
I would say "called it", but I think "triggered it" is more likely :)
Thanks, Jeph!
-
FWIW, I'm more and more certain that the right-hand DORD is in desperate need of a hug. This would probably be awkward as it is likely several kilometres across.
-
He doesn't admit it, but he enjoys the company that left DORD provides.
He feels very alone.
-
there's a good chance that boning at least existed.
Of course. Without boning, how could one have a proper corset?
-
I just realised; the DORDs were programmed with Emily's software... :psyduck:
-
"We can't destroy them - let's just keep them as far away as possible..."
-
"We can't destroy them - let's just keep them as far away as possible..."
"Hey! What about the orbital reflectors? They're sentient; shouldn't we do something for them before we quit this universe for a better one?"
"Nah; have you heard their poetry and politics? It'd be like having hundreds of copies of the asshole uncle no-one ever invites to parties around for the next eternity!"
-
L-DORD should've used the Scooter technique. "Bring us along the ride and we will NOT read our poems to you!"
-
Is there any way to get it to display more like Alice Grove, with just one comic per page and links to "Prev" and "Next" pages? It's cumbersome to have to scroll down the page to find the last one I read, and then read back up the page.
-
You just need to read it MORE OFTEN! :-D
-
I'll take that as a "no".
-
Nah, there's no way to get it to display differently from our end. Jeph would have to post the strips in separate pages for that to happen, and I doubt he's going to do that, as he seems unsure whether he's going to keep posting the DORD strips for very long.

You could start at http://dord.horse/archive (http://dord.horse/archive) and open all the new ones in separate tabs, then go through the tabs.
But prev/next links would be very nice, yes.
-
So did Jeph forget this exists?
-
Jeph never promised a regular strip. He drew these because he had the ideas and wanted to get them out of his brain. He said that he would carry on until he'd got them all out of his head. I guess all the little satellite ideas have been used up!
-
Poor orbiters. Abandoned because their creator lost interest in them.
-
The DORDs have been DORDed :(
muh feels.
-
They're DORD, Jim.
-
Bembo VII: The DORD Awakens.
-
Since we're all overanalyzing:
I think DORD is Jeph's tribute to Ryan North's Dinosaur Comics. In fact, I think most of the DORD captions could be pasted into the DC template and (with a few Jetsons/Flintstones modifications) still work.
And this is not a bad thing.

!! :-)
Jean-Jacques Dordain, the former Director General of the European Space Agency (ESA) and advisor to Luxembourg Government on SpaceResources.lu, said:"This initiative is a clear demonstration that Europeans are innovative and able to take risks when the stakes are high. While futuristic, the project is based on solid grounds, i.e. technical prowess that already exists in Europe and around the world."
from here (http://www.gouvernement.lu/5653386)
To keep this more on topic (the above is a bit off topic but somehow combines the amusement of the original word dord from before the strip, the name Jacques, and something much closer to the context of the strip (in order to mine asteroids, some sort of orbiting robots are going to need to be sent there and back :-o what would their lives be like if they had language capacity? )
in the amount of DORD strips at the moment there is really as much development and unpredictable humor as could happen with as specific a set of art materials in a short amount of time! i think it may return some day and just at the right time too! for now it has temporarily concluded on the perfect last line of dialogue!
-
Forum lurker posting to say that I would love some more dord. DOOOOORD!
-
I wonder if the title of this series is a bacronym of the ghost word 'dord'. (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nb0YoRMXIY0)
-
It is, IIRC.
-
DORD seems to be gone :(
