Vet, or city/county animal shelter employee (who could also be a DVM).  If they hold animals for a specific period then offer them for adoption, that suggests the latter.  Either Jeph is adding Ms Doggo to the cast or introducing her owner (who may be a new beau for Magustus).

This is pretty much how my mom got her old dog, minus the pot smoking! Wandering street dog, owners didn't claim her, mom claimed her. Good dog!

For what it's worth, although the drug has worn down their emotional control a lot, I think that Mrs Augustus's reaction to 'Cosmo' (who knows if she decides to keep that name?) feels really genuine and I suspect that this is the Good Girl she's wanted in her life. I also think that Cosmo is going to be in the position of having to be the sane one in the household sometimes, which makes her plain puzzlement at Claire and her mother's actions funnier!

Where did Claire get the confetti, Tai? Well, she's either an animé character or a Disney Princess. Having accessories like that always available is part of the job description!

Dora's reactions in panels 2 and 3 are wonderful. Once again, we see the reaction of the saner characters to the comedic excesses of the universe in wonderful detail!

It's mandatory in most states of Australia.

In the UK it's a legal requirement that it's done by eight weeks; though it's often not done till later as so few people realise there's a law, and of course strays don't know either.

The gang will incur the wrath of Spookybot, but will be spared due to how well Agustus-mom has been taking care of Cosmo.

Poor Claire! It's all been a bit too much for her! I wonder if she's going to wake up tomorrow and find her blurred memories and perceptions of the previous day a source of panic? Fortunately, reassuring frantic and highly-strung young women does seem to be one of Marten's life specialities.

I think that Marten should consider these events to be a positive indicator of progress. Claire does not seem to be the sort of girl who inadvertently injures him whilst intoxicated. I'm sure that they can build on that! :-D

Why wrath? The dog showing up on their doorstep is no fault of theirs.

I was imagining that the wrath would come from something completely unrelated to the dog. Like, years from now, after most of us have forgotten that Cosmo has a mysterious past.

"You have thwarted us, and there are normally consequences. However, Cosmo is very happy in her new home, thus we shall not destroy you today"
"Oh, that's where she came from!"

I understand where they both are coming from with the Brain thing.  I liked the feeling, I liked being around the few close friends I had and having a good time with them all.  I did NOT like being in mid conversation about something History related, getting going and having a good back and forth, and then suddenly, mid sentence...  Completely forgetting the point of the conversation or why we were talking about that subject in the first place lol.

Oh and cotton mouth.  Hated that almost as much.

...Of course, it doesn't do much good if you don't register the chip.  This is how my mom's cat ended up being part of the family.

Heh luckily you can activate the chip at any time. My cat came chipped with a free trial, but I didn't bother renewing it. A year later, she went missing. Immediately called to pay for and activate the chip, and 9 months later when I thought she was long gone, I got a phone call from the local shelter :)

They're truly incredible and make such a difference. I was heartbroken and would have always been wondering what happened to her. I'll never have a pet without one again. I highly recommend one for all pet owners.

Ever since Jeph made a few posts about Beeptrice on Twitter, I started getting worried. I thought that she was going to be like Tilly - a new character that he considered cute and funny that he was going to shove in our faces and leave there. It's pretty obvious what role she was created to fill: She's Roko's new supervisor at whatever her new 'real' job is (I've got the feeling it's a community advisory/advocacy service). However, I'm concerned that she might end up becoming too prominent too quickly in a way that sours people towards her.

All that aside, I do agree with Beeptrice's employers. If there is one thing that any consumer product manufacturer should know it is that there is no upper limit to the abnormal use to which your products will be put and the capability of people to have a bizarre definition of 'intuitive normal usage'. Best to prepare in advance rather than get your butt sued for injuries after they use one as a flaming torch or something. I'm pretty sure that sex toys suffer even more abuse, given the weird places some people can go!

Welp.. I ship it.

Yeah, I'm not one to jump on a ship on first sight of a new character but Jeph is honouring at least one animé trope here (constant over-reaction to double-entendres) that suggests he is at least deliberately teasing this because he thinks it's cute. However, I do believe that this feeds into the overall Roko arc that she desperately needs a romantic sexual partner to the point where even hints are making her overheat!

I'm thinking it should be Beep-atrice (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockatrice). Sort of self-censored. And would go nice with a Basilisk (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DontExplainTheJoke).

Beepatrice? I think I have a new favourite character.

I love the easily-flustered ones - it's why I like Hanners.   :-)

Did anyone else read that last part in Metaton's voice?

The archangel Metatron?
... No.
Sorry, I misspelled it.

That gets more clever the longer I think about it. I absolutely love it.

Fun fact: in Polish there's no distinction. Both tend to be called "bazyliszek" (similarly, and this has nothing to do with anything, both a mermaid and a siren are translated as "syrena").

In the original mythology there wasn't much of a distinction either. The names were sometimes used interchangeably. And apparently in at least some cases, the difference was whether it was a cockerel egg raised by serpents or a serpent egg raised by a cockerel.

(also I think the notion of a cockerel, a male chicken, laying an egg was also related to the myth, so no, I didn't misspeak  :-P )

Okay, for some reason, some posters have decided that Beeptrice's name is a reference to the mythological beast known as the cockatrice, which is similar to the basilisk in its mystical properties and special abilities. The word 'cock' is how some versions of English language refer to roosters (male chickens). It is also a slang term for penis and it appears that some have, for no reason I can grasp myself, have assumed it's a double-entendre and a shipping hint.

FWIW, I think that Jeph intended the name to be a robotisation of 'Beatrice' but maybe I'm conventional and boring.

I see it as a take on the scunthorpe problem (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ScunthorpeProblem), I.e. computers inability to see the difference between a bad word used as a bad word or as a part of something innocent, and in order to censor bad words they add weird forms of search-and-replace which causes the clbuttic problems of completely incomprehensible words. Buttbuttination, Bdonkey guitar, Mbuttachusetts and Bleepake mushrooms are examples from TV tropes (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ScunthorpeProblem), as is the movie Octokittykat.

Indeed.  There are people shipping Roko and Bee when the former has never given any indication of being anything but hetro (a yeasty hetro but still hetro) and we have no idea of Bee's orientation at all.  Might we be sex obsessed?

Now, I can see them serving as each other's wingbots.  And a double date with Roko & Clinton and Barry & Bee could be hilarious.

It is good to see Roko hitting it off with a new friend, albeit awkwardly.

Interviews gone wrong:

Years ago I worked in value village/savers. New hires had to go around and ask current employees harmless things like favourite whatever.

SO this very attractive redhead comes over to my area of the store, and we chat a little bit. So she asks what's your favourite food. Now I had just been at an art gallery opening and they had those little store bought pastries that were chilled and filled with whip cream, and I was obsessed with them. So things had been going well, and I look her right in the eye with a smile and say

"I like creampies."

I stood there a couple seconds before the look of horror hit me, a moment after she looked absolutely shocked. I start trying to explain the above that I meant the little pastries, but I lose it and start laughing at myself, and she starts laughing (thankfully). Between gasping for air I tell her "cream puffs, that's what I meant! please...pizza, just write pizza, I swear they'll never let me forget this otherwise..."

I vaguely remember interviews mostly as terrifying things, but I sorta remember getting one interviewer talking about government conspiracies, another to over-share past traumas, and I think some story about when they got too high or something.

The birth of the reader is the death of the author.  What Jeph meant is irrelevant; from now and henceforth forever, Beep-atrice is a reference to the mythical animal.

Yeah, that 's why I hid the cock (rooster) picture. It was an attempt to be funny, thinking about people clicking to see the picture, not expecting to see a rooster at all, but I think most people didn't get it. My bad.
