A friend of mine has her birthday next week. I always like to give her something special. This year I came up with the idea to draw her rpg character and put it on a t-shirt.
I've been working sporadically on this sketch for some weeks now. Now it's finished and I'd like to start to ink and colour it tonight or tomorrow. But first I'd like to have some comments and criticism. So if you were her, would you like to get it on a shirt? Does it look ok so far or are there some serious mistakes that I don't notice? Or ist it just crap?

I think it looks spankin'! :) I especially like the details of her wings and her boots. The foreshortening on her right arm looks a tad odd to me though.
P.S The way you've drawn the hands is EXACTLY how i end up drawing them. But for it is because of my totally inability to draw the blasted things. We should all have stumps on the ends of our arms.
-
Wow, that's really strong art. You're quite sure of yourself, I can feel it! You have to show us the finished product, too.
-
I like it. The hands do look as if they're lacking detail but that's not always a bad thing at all. Sometimes it's just the artist's style. Look at CAD (http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/index.php?t=archives&date=last) for example. If that's something you know she'd like in theory, then I'm sure she'll like the practical product definitely, because the bottom line is that it's very good.
-
That's really solid. I like it a lot. Get workin' on that, I wanna see a finished product!
Keep up the good work. Hot damn.
-

Yes, that's what I thought, too, but wasn't sure of....

Yeah, the guys at MacHall and Applegeeks do it that way, too, and that's where I stole the idea *g*. I thought, that would be better than drawing crappy hands :)
Thanks for your comments!!! Of course I will post it, when it's finished....
-
That's really solid!
I can't really comment on the arm foreshortening because often it's all in how you color it. I think it looks fine so far though.
-
Thanks, Jeph!
I tweaked the arm and I'm curently 'inking' the pic....
-
That's pretty awesome! Nice.
-
for those who are interesetd... i managed to 'ink' parts of the pic.. wings are not done yet... but i fixed the forshortening of the right arm (actually her left arm)
this pic is reduced in size... in the end it will be twice as large
inking is a hard job.... *sweats*
-
your style reminds me a little of Chugworth Academy, also. which is a compliment, as his art is rather good. it's just the writing that i can't seem to get into.
-
actually the face is inspired a lot by CA... I am really bad at drawing faces, and the faces at CA seemed easy to draw *g*
-
it looks really great and solid.
I think maybe yo can add a little more detail in the clothing in certain areas (chest, for example)
I'm not being a perv, it's just that with the wings, and all of their glorious linework and detail, the chest looks like this open expanse of white. Good fix on the foreshortening.
Maybe the empty space thing is something that can be corrected in the color stage? I don't know what you have planned. Maybe some textures or patterns, or with shading.
It looks great. I'm just trying to be constructive cause I think you can make it look amazing.
-
Yep... I am going to do some heavy shading after the coloring. that should also fix the "flat chest syndrome" *g*
-
This is lovely! I agree that the lines are very strong and able-looking. The wings are nice, and I don't mind the chest at all. I just thought it was leather, which doesn't tend to conform to curves like cotton and polyester. :)
If she ended up not liking this, I'd be quite surprised. Too much detail can, in some cases, kill a picture. I don't see a problem with it at all, since you fixed the arm.
-
That's nice. I would spank her. I like the leg stance particulalrly.
-

Hehe... good eye. Obviously I did something right. Her torso is covered by a leather amour, the skirt is from leather, too, but from softer leather.
Damn it took me nearly 10 hours just to ink one wing. I am really slllloooowwww at drawing. :)
-
Slow, but at least the result is great !
I really don't know what comment i could make, it's really good.
-
Ok, after lots of hours of hard work (I needed around 20 to 25 hours just to ink the wings) you can find the completely inked version HERE (http://www.branitar.de/IMAGES/art/Angel_inked.jpg).
I will start colouring it this evening...
-
Man you would get along with my pal Yuko. Meticulous bastards, the both of ya. I do not have the attention span to do ANYTHING for that long!
Although I guess I do spend about 30 hours per week working on the comic...hmm.
-
*laugh* well... i guess i can be a real perfectionist on some things.... and to be honest, it's my first work ever, both on the computer and at all... i never tried drawing rpg-characters before. so i guess, i will be faster the next time :)
and "fallen" is great, i like it very much...
-
and the colouring is done. You can see the result HERE (http://www.branitar.de/IMAGES/art/Angel_basecolour.jpg).
Tomorrow I will start shading it....
-
Woah, the lineart looks great, and I think the colors you've chosen work nicely. Can't wait to see it shaded!
-
I 'm finished... and I am dead *ack* well.. turned out not as bad as i thought it would for a firstie....

Wow! She must be some friend to go to all this effort. I'm sure she'll love it!
-
well... best friend now... i had a crush on her for two years *g*
-
That explains it :) Seriously though, if she has any sense she'll love it, not just because the picture's great (which it is) but because of the effort you've gone to for her.
-
well she's worth it... :)
-
Damn, that is really well done. Good job!
-
Very very very nice job, you have some talent. I'm sure she'll love it
-
It's so pretty!
If she doesn't love it, she's dumb.
-

slow is okay, the result is very, very good.
i in my early 20s was a student of the good old sakura-on-bristol school, and that takes a looong time to get good results. Since then I let my skills fade over nearly 13 yrs, until late last year, when I decided to become a graphic designer.
i don't know how old you are, but please, don't ignore the talent you have, and let your eye leave you. It sucks getting it back. :)
-
well.. I am 27 and software engineer... *g*
-
I really really like it. The final product is beautifully done. Nine thumbs up.
