you know something I figured out how Dora sells the coffee shop but it stays in the family:
Hannelore comes back for the wedding meets the new characters realizes she misses everyone and she's tired of wandering around and buys and runs it
and Claire can take over Tai's spot at the library .....
-
Or...Jim can decide to expand, (they already use the same baked goods and coffee) Veronica can run it, and Sam can be her apprentice.
-
Dora owns a comic shop? Since when?
-
Hmm. Why would she sell it though? The only mention of doing so was a hypothetical, like "If you had to move for your job I'd do this", not "Hey, quit your job and I'll sell Coffee of Doom and we'll go live in Tahiti!"
It's not that much different from people speculating about what they'd do if they win the lotto or what they'd do if they ever got arrested - not a plan, just an idle thought.
-
Hannelore has been living on a small scale but don't you think she's destined for bigger things than a small town cafe?
-
Her mother would certainly think so.
Which might be enough reason for Hannelore to choose otherwise.
-
Insightful. The other side of that is that Hannelore has mused about how to use her current and future wealth and connections for the greater good.
-
But then Beatrice would still win, because Hanners would still be using her wealth and her connections (because I imagine that any business/corporation would want to work with a Ellicott-Chatham, if only for the connection to Beatrice).
Hanners' father has changed the world with AI.
I'm pretty sure her mother is trying to take over the world.
And sometimes its not about trying to change the world, its about living your life by your own principles and ideals. I imagine Hanners would be quite happy running a coffeehouse.
Which goes back to the original topic, where the hell are you getting the idea that Dora could be selling Coffee of Doom?
-
When Dora and got engaged, Dora made the statement that if Tai got a better job offer and had to move, Dora said she'd sell CoD and move with her. So...hypothetically.
-
Still, its putting the cart before the horse. And lets be honest, this forum has a woeful record when it comes to trying predict whats going to happen in the comic anymore than a couple of days in advance.
-
I love the idea of Dora starting a franchise, opening a new CoD in Amhurst or something staffed by Clinton, some of the long-absent friends of Nat and maybe with Roko as the branch manager.
-
If it was franchising he key demographic is a mix of college Students in need of caffeine, hipsters and Starbucks refugees.
That pretty much covers every college campus zone in the world.
I suggest Toronto's St George Campus for the first international location.
I would avoid dealing with the language issues in Montreal - Café de malheur - just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Given the 'Frenglish' trend sometimes seen, I'd almost want to see "Café pour le Doom" as a name, just to watch native Francophones literally spontaneously combusting in horror and rage.

You know there are some native Francophones on that forum, right? Me, for one.
"Café pour jouer ŕ Doom" makes a lot more sense...

@traroth,
Sorry if that seemed offensive. I suppose that I find humour in watching people react to linguistic crimes. I post as someone who actually has a difficult time with grammatical structures and correct spelling myself, even in my native language (a significant amount of what I know about spelling and grammar I learned from MS Word's default English (UK) dictionary).

There is a French franchise - Café de la Mort - featured in a Patreon-only strip https://www.patreon.com/posts/september-bonus-14612944
For less than 2 of Dora’s cappuccinos!

That strip (I assume it's the same one) made its way into the main comic as #3641 (https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3641).

Yeah, that was so great!
