I vote for Yay because, in 2019, Jeph turned a walking, talking deus ex machina into something resembling a real character with understandable motivations and a solid set of limits (even if they're only self-imposed).

Other, Brun.

She's one of the characters in media that I've been able to relate to most AND she's a human instead of an alien or a robot.

^ Seconded. I haven't really warmed to most of the AI characters much but I always enjoy Brun's appearances and similarly find her relatable (as a fellow somewhat-literal-minded night owl with bushy eyebrows and a fondness for croissants).

Hmmm.....since they were very patient with her and considering the hour, I'm guessing it was either online or at some 24hour store with shoes.

Well, Tai, it's all a matter of personal scale of embarrassing, isn't it? You're so adapted to being intoxicated that you only get ashamed when you do something pretty major. For Millifeulle, having to be persuaded not to buy one hundred pairs of designer shoes with her life savings is deep into 'biting your fist' territory!

It's that way for Dora too and now I desperately want to know about the shoes she bought when drunk!

Something tells me that drunk!Millie is very raucous, shrill and demanding to the point where she may have developed a reputation at a certain retailer. I'm starting to wonder if Jeph is planning to make this another 'drying out a friend' story.

Strip 4160 has been rewritten

Jeph decided that having Millifeulle's memories passoword locked was incompatible with the 'Bubbles' Lost Memories' plot arc so has rewritten the strip to simply make Milli even more embarrassed with her behaviour the previous night!

https://twitter.com/jephjacques/status/1209066765197688833

He probably needs to tweak Strip 4161 too, IMO. We'll see.

SCENE: The office of the Honorable David Narkewicz, Mayor of Northampton

The mayor looks out his office window and sees thousands of pairs of shoes scattered the length of Main Street.

The mayor mutters under his breath, “Again? This friggin’ town,” and picks up his phone to call Public Works for a cleanup crew.

Nothing can't be improved with the addition of a cat. Nothing. I haven't seen that cat in so long I was beginning to wonder if it had died or something (Or more likely Jeph had forgotten about him).

Well, that's the final proof that Dora and Tai were meant to be together: Mieville has adopted Tai as His human! I note that he still retains a healthy degree of fear about the various weird personalities that enter His humans' lives though. I'm pretty sure that Millifeuille is harmless but a wise cat is never too careful!

Yeah, I think I see what this strip is trying to say: There is a liberation about being intoxicated - You can escape reality for a while and I think that being free of her social anxiety is something that Milli pretty desperately wants sometimes. No matter how much she regrets it afterwards. There is a chance that this is going to turn into Dora and Tai finding out why Milli keeps doing this to herself and at least trying to help.

Tai should talk to Hanners if she wants to see space. She has that technology at her disposal.

This is how Tickle-N-Grin Technologies confirmed that their flagship product did not respond well to wireless charging whilst in 'active' mode and whist lying on a commercial hotplate set to full heat. Why they needed a lab test to confirm this, no-one is sure but Beepatrice suspects that 'for the lulz' was in the authorisation email somewhere.

I dunno. I guess we’re supposed to assume something’s going on that we can’t see, but to me it just looks like the dildo caught fire and exploded because it was left on too long. And that’s expected?

Personally, if that’s how things work in-universe, I’d stick to non-powered sex toys. Unless the unpowered versions also have catastrophic failure modes.

I used to date someone who liked toys that . uh. words.   Were Violent.  those are good words. None of them caught fire, though.

Seriously, some of her favorites would leave her with serious bruises that lasted for several days.   There was one that was a rebuild of a hardware-store reciprocating saw.  It made me cringe whenever I saw it.

She could have made good money doing on stage what she did in her own room by herself.  But that's probably true of a lot of people with much more ordinary toys.

My brother is an electrical engineer with the best job, doing safety testing of products.  He's told some fun stories of products that failed spectacularly, like a vacuum cleaner that bursts into flame if you jam the motor.  (Standard safety regulations state that appliances are required to shut down if they get jammed, so stuff like that doesn't happen)

Bursting into flame would be a failed test...  although as far as I know, he's never tested dildos before.  :P

This is so cute and heartwarming. I can really see Bubbles and Faye being like this - Being unintentionally self-parodaic when they're flirting and still being intensely embarrassed by admitting their physical attraction for each other like a pair of  teenagers.

What's the bet that this is the result of Bubbles searching for glamour shots on-line because she wants to impress Faye? Not knowing, of course, that she doesn't need to go that extra mile!

The point is that it failed in the expected way. That's a passed test. I think that it's been established that Beepatrice's employer do 'test to destruction' - Basically, how far can you push these things before they fail and in spectacular ways?

I don't think he'd be able to if he's an electrical engineer- unless it's a plug-in or rechargable model. Then again, what would he be doing with it anyway? Simply turning it on and testing it x amount of hours until the motor blew to see if it fizzled, melted, seized, or exploded? It seems like it'd fall under a similar QA tester, like the materials tester(for the plastic/latex outside) or the chemical tester(to see if there's any harmful chemicals leeching out)

Of course, you could always get a laugh and bring it up and see what he'd think about someone testing them!

I was organizing my personal archive of QC files and noticed a folder of character pictures.  After flipping through to see what they were, it occurred to me that, even without Bubs, they could have a pretty hot roller derby team.  Hanners and Claire probably should just root from the sides, but Brun, Faye, and Marigold as blockers, Dora as Pivot, and Tai as a jammer...

Then if you wanted an AI team, have Bubs/Millie/Swordsmary as blockers, with Momo as Pivot and Roko as the jammer.  I'd leave May on the sidelines - too aggressive (always in the penalty box) and, at least at this point (4160), delicate considering the punishment usually inflicted.  I'd expect an AI league would not across over against a human league as the AIs seem to be denser - weigh more than similar sized humans - except maybe professionally.  The possibility of grisly human injuries seems pretty high if a mixed league was allowed.
