Title: Genesis P'Orridge dead at 70
Post by: hedgie on 15 Mar 2020, 14:38
As a fan of quite a bit of industrial music, and owner of a few of TG's records, this was big news for me: Genesis P'Orridge: Troublesome Legacy… (https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/mar/15/genesis-p-orridge-troubling-catalyst-who-loathed-rock-yet-changed-it-for-ever) After reading both this article and the Guardian's obit, it seems like s/he was a rather shitty person, but still quite influental.

Edit:  Extrordinarily shitty person.

A not infrequent affliction among that type of artist.

Well that's sad.
Are Kraftwerk and KMFDM assholes too?

Not that I'm aware of.

Edit:  I don't know exactly what sitnspin was referring to, but it may be that early TG/COUM work aimed to be highly transgressive in ways that Kraftwerk, KMFDM etc have never done.

Basically. There is a type of artist that exist in all media that aims to be as far outside the mainstream as they can get. More often than not this involves a massive ego which only compounds over time as they get more attention.
