Remember, it's not porn because it's not erect.
EDIT: BTW, this feels like Jeph's twitter.
-
...and he should have been more specific in his request.
Also both Jeph's comics and the ones in the link are groaners more than bad, they're like dad jokes on steroids with puns added in to round out the flavor
-
Bepis? Vabumba? :psyduck:
P.S.: Yes. Those are ... bad.
P.P.S. Just had a look at the 200 bad comics (http://www.nedroid.com/bcpage1.html). I think it might have done something to my brain ...
-
I have to admit I may just stay away from the page for a week.... :-P
-
Uh oh... Jeph's drawing dongs again.
-
Remember, it's not porn because it's not erect.
He drew Yelling Bird with a huge erection once. Then Shelby punched him (the Bird, not Jeph.)
-
I’m pretty sure that it’s “Shebly”, ever since Jeph’s typo.
-
I really hope that the next comic will be better, this one didn't do it for me.
-
Gremlin Billie Eilish is not something that I expected to have needed in my life.
-
Is that Grimes?
And now I run away.
-
That's what this reminds me of! The tone difference between this and this
-
I had to Google who Billie Eilish is...I wish I didn't. Makes the comic all the more understandable, just another kid who got lucky and is using the fame to be a spoiled brat.
Other than that one, I freely admit that they had me giggling at their sheer groan-inducing qualities.
-
Now seems as good a time as any to drop QC from my daily reading.
It's been fun.

On the plus side, at least these things are short.
-
They're even shorter if you dont bother reading them in the first place, though.
-
I mean... I'm not a huge fan of them either, but it's only for a week and the whole point of theses comics is that they're bad. Why stop reading the main comic over an annual low-effort comics week?

I enjoy some of Jeph's breaks. Like Bembo. The last couple of days, not so much.
What's nagging me right now is Billie Eilish's mouth-thing. A "w" is not a mouth. Mouths never look like that, ever.
-
It’s a “cat mouth”. A pretty common anime meme.
-

I'm guessing it might be the straw that broke the camel's back?
-
This is like... 2020 Oglaf bad.

More or less.
I’ve been visiting for this place more than the comic for awhile now.
-
I gotta say, I don’t love Billie Eilish but she’s not annoying enough or attention-hogging enough to merit this type of comic. Taylor Swift is WAY more irritating.
-
Today's actually made me laugh.
-
This was both stupid and fun...you want to hate it but it was too cute to hate.

Same here, really.

Jeph calls these posts 'Bad Comics'. That probably tells you everything that you need to know.

Same, and I still genuinely *like* the comic.

I like Tay.
I still don't know what a Billie Eilish is.

she's the bad guy... duh
-
So she was straight up 17 when Bad Guy started playing on ever radio station, huh?
-
I’m not familiar with her work, but she seems like a nice enough kid. And yes, she’s young enough that she’s still one.
-

Not sure I've even heard that song. On a tangent, I've still managed to avoid hearing "WAP" (I have no great opinion of Cardi B as an artist.)
-
All I can say is...Jeph seems to have a penis fixation this week. Plus OUCH to the shark bite!
-
On a tangent, I've still managed to avoid hearing "WAP."
That is a good thing. That is a very good thing. Long may it continue.
-
I’m not familiar with her work, but she seems like a nice enough kid. And yes, she’s young enough that she’s still one.
She’s very young, yeah, and a certain brand of dude-bros have been super critical of her clothing choices because she prefers baggy clothes. The one time she wore a tank top to perform there was online drama, and she ended up using her platform to talk about slut shaming, body positivity, etc.
She’s not my jam but for the high school and middle school girls at my school she seems pretty important.
I think she’s one of the class of artists (like NBA Youngboy) that is SO not for me but is SO important to my students that I feel very protective of them lol
-
Her music is mostly just "meh, whatever". Nothing noticeably bad or good, just okay. My issues with her is that in interviews she mostly comes off as an entitled kid who doesn't really know shit and was given a platform way too young. Which isn't her fault, she's a kid, she's just acting her age. I put the blame on every adult surrounding her. But I also have no interest in listening to a teenager try to act cool and spout nonsense, so I try to avoid her.
-
I never realized how much I had forgotten that Jeph can be a jerk when it comes to being a music critic: we get it, you don't like Billie. Just because you liked obscure bands that you heard because you live off of the money made from subscribers doesn't mean you are right about music!
And your dick fetish is out of hand...it was funny once, but not in every one of the strips. Even intentionally bad, it's annoying.

It's not the first time Jeph has done something like this regarding musicians...he is an "artist" but the way he is doing it this week he's coming off as more of a douchebag like thos shamers.
-
He hasn't even said anything about her in the comic. Literally all she has said is "I'm Billie Eilish."
Everyone is right about music, it is personal taste.
-
Wow, the last time I read Chickweed Lane was over a decade ago (2008).
I didn't realize it'd been that long.
-
Looking forward to 2021. It can only get better from here.

Here's a link to a couple tweets of Jeph's where he actually talks about what he thinks of Billie Eilish, as opposed to the comics that you're drawing these ideas from:

So either he thought that it'd be fun to cyberbully a teenager because he ignorantly jumped on the bashing bandwagon or he drew them because he was bored. Either way is horrible.
-
Cyberbullying? Is that what we're calling this now? If drawing a caricature - and not even a particularly (or even really "at all") cruel one at that - is cyberbullying then I guess we'd better shut down the Internet because it's populated entirely by monsters.

Wow. Why are you so insistent that these comics are anti-Billie Eilish? I thought from the start that he was including her because he liked her. I didn't really understand why other people were getting the idea that this was a negative commentary on her, but whatever, harmless enough. But now it's cyberbullying?
-
I’m glad he likes her!
I was under the impression the comics were to make fun of her since generally when you have a character whose one line is announcing who they are, and they’re consistently doing it in inappropriate settings, like surgery, you’re making a joke about them being attention hogs or overly self promoting.
Also, out of curiosity, can someone on the Patreon say whether these were written before or after the tweet?
-
I think he just found the concept of gremlin Billie Eilish saying "I'm Billie Eilish" funny. I know I do.
Some of y'all just read too far into things.
-
Same day. From the patreon post:
Last weekend I was inspired by Anthony Clark's 200 Bad Comics Challenge and decided to do some bad comics of my own. Here are 25 of them. I might do more at some point. Billie Eilish is cool. Well bye
But it doesn't matter because there is nothing malicious or antagonistic in these comics. He included her as a running gag because she was on his mind after listening to her music. He didn't tease or mock or insult her. She is simply present. Anything else is reading into the text that which is not there.
-
I've seen less projection at an Imax
-
It might be time to take a break from social media, awkwardness.
Multiple studies have found that it's good to unplug for a bit from time to time.
-
Oh, has another of Jeph's meaningless comics turned into an inkblot test?

Maybe?
-
Maybe!
You know, even if Jeph is poking fun at Billie Eilish here, it's a pretty gentle poke, and I would find it pretty hard to get worked up about it myself.
BTW as an ageing curmudgeon that dislikes a lot of new popular music, I think that hers is enjoyable enough.
-
Despite all the comments on the previous page, I'm just glad Jeph hasn't taken QC in the same direction as a number of other webcartoonists. Whether it be turning it into a wall of text soapbox, or just an excuse to draw fetish art (I'm doubly glad it's not creepy fetish art).
Maybe!

There's actually a tango arrangement for Bad Guy
-
I am grateful for the departure of Ass.Golf and the return of QC. I was beginning to think the dick strips would never end.
-
Same, but even webcomic artists need a break at some times.
-
I found some of the comics funny, actually.
And I wouldn't mind them even if I didn't. It's free entertainment. As hedgie said, Jeph deserves a break once in a while - if anything, *more* often than once a year.
-
"Don't know why I'm bitching, 'cause the comic is free / But this is the Internet; it's all about me"
-
Even free comics aren't immune from criticism, y'know.
But I mean, you're both right in pointing out that it's Jeph's comic, and that he's perfectly entitled to do whatever he wants. Which obviously continues to please a lot of people. So, power to him.
No need to be quite so bothered by those who openly criticise it, or simply express the opinion that there were some comics they didn't like. They're entitled to do that as well. It doesn't make them as egocentric as that little couplet makes them out to be.
-
Oh, I'm absolutely all for criticising stuff one doesn't like. I just said I like some of the jokes, and I don't mind that the comics, well, involve considerably less effort. I see them as trash, but purposeful trash - in a "I'm taking a break from making comics, but here's at least SOMETHING that I've made" way.
Granted, arguably no ocmics would be better than bad comics, depending on one's perspective. But personally, I give a pass to a low-effort update of anything when the creator of said anything is technically not supposed to work on it.
This isn't to say discussing the badness is somehow wrong. I just thought I'd share my general reaction, which is indifference mixed with mild amusement with the jokes, which I find so stupid they loop back around to being funny, much like I'd find it funny if someone farted during a solemn speech or something.
