Happy New Year! Good Luck and Prosperity in the Year Of The Ox!
新年好! 恭喜发财! 萬事如意! 牛年!

Let us hope this Year of the Ox is better than last Year of the Rat! This New Year has already been strange, in that Reunion Dinner last night was just my immediate family. Back home, of course, the annual Chūnyùn (https://i.imgur.com/xmmEXDP.jpg) migration has been very heavily curtailed by government restrictions on travel. This is especially very tough on the millions of migrant workers unable to obtain residence permits in the cities where they work, who often only see their families and children at this annual festival. I'm sorry I've been so inactive here, but you are in my thoughts.
Although I was not born in an Ox year (I am a Dog) the ox has special significance to me as a Chán Buddhist. For at least a thousand years, Taming the Ox (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Bulls) (or Bull, the character 牛 can be read as either) has been an important metaphor for our struggle to achieve spiritual progress and Enlightenment. I find it very easy to identify with hauling on a rope against a recalcitrant beast, with blistered hands, and my feet slipping in the mud. :)
