Title: Lightyear (Pixar)
Post by: LeeC on 27 Oct 2021, 09:04
I'm getting some Ad-Astra/Interstellar Vibes. I wonder if we'll see Zerg.

Folks on the internet are wondering if Buzz Lightyear is a real person in the Toy Story universe or just a media property, and if it's just a media property is this the movie that inspired the toy line or some kind of remake of it? Also the lack of colors, Buzz Lightyear was sort of inspired by a sort of 90s retro futurism.

All I know is that I really liked the Buzz Lightyear cartoon that came out after Toy Story 2 and I hope they put it up on Disney+

I have a theory that they are doing a reverse of the Avengers. The toy story movies were the Avengers movies, and now these are the toys' origin stories. First we'll have Lightyear (and perhaps sequels) and eventually we'll get a pixar cowboy movie called Sheriff Woody. If they go this route then I can't wait for the Mr. Potato-Head movie.

But in all seriousness, I think its a soft reboot. Looks interesting though. I like the Zaku looking Zerg robots.

My crack-theory is that this is set in the future and these are real humans. The space program/corporation/whatever is funded by an eccentric billionaire who really loved the old Buzz Lightyear toys.

I've got  the feeling that this is going to use the plot device of Buck Rogers and Dan Dare. Contemporary pilot goes to the future and saves the day because of his less cynical less technology-dependent habits.

I know there's a few folks with some pretty negative opinions of the character model, though. Mainly this image that falls just short of the uncanny valley for me.

EDIT: I think it's the hair and the top of the head reading as normal proportions and hyper realism sitting on top of that face. Maybe if they'd just made his eyes a bit bigger?

It has the same sort of feel as the character models for Tintin, which I know freaked a lot of people out but I could deal with.

I'm guessing it's the same sort of thing? Filming before green-screen and then modifying the performers' appearances into the characters in post-production?

Just trying to imagine what that dude's skull must look like.

His jawbone doubles as a gourget if he opens his mouth.

Maybe we can x-ray Jay Leno to get an idea.

I assume a piece of neck/head clothing (commonly armour) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorget). When I searched for it. Google also wondered if I meant a tool for lithotomy (https://www.baus.org.uk/museum/125/gourget) or a courgette.

The armor piece.

I don't recall hearing or seeing the word lithotomy before, which is weird considering the kidney issues on my mom's side of the family.

The robo-cat will have its own spin-off movie and merchandising. This is guaranteed.

[Kiff sigh]

I suppose it will.
