Didn't get it today, but I would be interested to hear other's opinions on today's word. I feel like it's kinda cheating me here. What do you mean by that?

Because yesterday's word was a name, not a noun or a verb. Unless I'm missing something, which is eminently possible.Thought that might be what you meant, but didn't want to assume. It didn't even occur to me as a name before I read your previous post, though. I can definitely see how the main definition I associate with it would be less familiar for non-Americans.
Too many options!
@pwhodges I mostly know yesterday's word from this song:
@Tova: Don't know your song. Interesting though :)
How do you guys choose your starting word? Do you have a fixed or favourite one?
I use a different word every time, always with two vowels.
What a lucky guess!

"If wishes were horses, beggars would ride".
Funny how with a 5 you’re disappointed but with a 6 you’re happy you dodged a bullet.
Feeling smug, or at least lucky.

My heart was in my mouth for a moment!Well done!
The bar-chart of my guess distribution is strange. Success in three guesses or five is definitely more common. I'm not sure what distribution I'd expect, mind you. Mine is certainly not Gaussian.

It's a word I use quite a lot actually, as it's a key concept in some of the (hobby) work I do a lot of*.It's a term in musical notation, or software for composition/scoring? I did not know that. I only got it because it's a word that quite often pops up in science-fiction to describe alien writing systems. It seems some people got quite upset about i (https://www.womanandhome.com/life/news-entertainment/wordle-517-shocks-players-with-hardest-challenge-ever-i-dont-think-ive-ever-seen-or-heard-this-word-before/)t.

I make scores for three purposes - to make decent copies of music I want to play on the piano which is not necessarily published (e.g. anime theme songs); to make scores for the choir I sing in (often making a new edition, and also making instrumental parts when we have supporting instruments); and recently, making scores for publication of the music of a recently deceased composer (Justin Connolly) of whom my son is the executor - in which role he is trying to get all his unpublished work into print.
I still prefer 'glyph' over 'piney'.
Yay!
Where do you find your average? Do you mean your guess distribution?
I really thought I'd pulled it out of the hat with my third word - but no...Same.

Normally it's best to chose the most mundane word. But not always.
Have you noticed that Wordle is getting easier?Wordle is Getting Simpler, Along with Other Things. (https://riverdaughter.wordpress.com/2022/12/19/wordle-is-getting-simpler-along-with-other-things/)
That comparison can of course vary with the person, but I think that most would agree that the game has gotten a good deal easier. I know that the New York Times has given the job of picking words to one of their staff; it is no longer the originator, Josh Wardle, with his list of many words which were used for about 500 games of Wordle.
Now, I do not at all mind an easy one every once in awhile! But these are coming up very often. I got Sunday’s word in three tries. I usually play carefully, and do not early guess very often, if I can be more certain by trying a word which is unlikely to be the answer, but might give me a letter or two to help fill in. Well, this time I had all the letters in two tries. a e r p t. Prate would have been a good word, but it is too difficult for Wordle now, I think. I thought of pater, but that might also be too hard! Anyway, p could not have been first, so it had to be taper.
<snip>
I have perceived a run of more obvious words recently, but I'm not betting on that lasting.
"Wordle is getting harder!"
"Wordle is getting easier!"
As the world turns...
I generally ignore the whiners and just play. :D
I haven't been playing long enough to have meaningful opinion. By the time I discovered the game, it had already been acquired by the New York Times. That article has heavy ageing hipster vibes: "I was into <thing> before you'd ever heard of it, and it used to be better." This question should be readily answered by statistical analysis, which I am quite certain the author has not performed.QuoteHave you noticed that Wordle is getting easier?
