Title: WCDT - Mar 21st to Mar 25th, 2022 (#4746 to #4750)
Post by: Gyrre on 20 Mar 2022, 02:47
So, we all know Marbear is a bit of a goblin sometimes, but which diminuitive mischief maker do you identify as?

[I know there are more little troublemakers from assorted world folklores, but listing all of them would be a bear, so here's the ones I know off the top of my head. Plus, some of them like dokkabei and tsukumogami used to be objects, and that just feels weird including them as options.]

EDIT: There seems to be a touch of confusion regarding the purpose of the poll. Marigold has her 'goblin mode', what sort of little troublemaker are you?

EDIT 2: Oh tight, nisse and tomte are the traditional names for gnomes. Sorry 😐

Other: Hmm, nope, I can't identify as any of these critters as they're all too small - my image of myself has always been large and awkward. If any fictional being fits my mental image, it would be the Goons out of the old Popeye cartoons...

Marten, Marten. He wants to IRONICALLY look like a JRPG character. You should know this, after his previous whacky outfits.

Same. I'm 5'10". Way too tall to be one of these. Besides, I much more align with Coyote when it comes to tricksters.

A "that's fair" to all of you tall folk. I just didn't want to name specific trickster figures, so I went the small ones since Marigold has her 'goblin mode' despite being ~5'6".

EDIT: Granted, naming specific figures would have given a better global representation.

No, I get it (as otherworldly as it seems). Pintsize wants to dress in the same way as a JRPG character not dress as a specific JRPG character. That's why it isn't cosplay. He's adopting an aesthetic, not paying homage to anyone.

About the poll, as mentioned before I'd pick the dark, mysterious, passionate, secretive and very stylish darkelf.

I also like halfelves.

And Gnomes, if they are pretty, which they never are, so nevermind.

Goblins, if I can make them look intelligent.

Orcs, if I can make look them manly. Or, well, womanly.

Err ... comically oversized swords are simply not useable if they are "real". Youtubers like for example Skalagrim have made videos about that.

And not thats not only a problem of strength. Its also a problem of weight and center of mass. Even if you have unlimited strength, you cannot properly swing such an item, like you can a regular sword.

A regular sword is something like around 3mm thick on the blade, weights around one kilogram, and is properly balanced.

And its QUICK. In any reallife scenario, the user of a comically oversized sword would be long dead before they manage to attack.

Sure their attack would be deadly. But everyone would just step out of the way. Its just that slow.

I greatly appreciate the pedantry Pintsize is displaying in this discussion.

Also, I vote 'goblin' for a few reasons.

One, I sometimes refer to my own anxiety in my internal monologue as the 'negativity goblin'.

Two, I have a distinct position that I squat down into, leaning against a wall or something else usually, when I am vaping or smoking, which is known amongst my loved ones and friends as my being the 'vape goblin' or doing the 'goblin squat'.

Three, I often talk about how our cats, who will look like butter wouldn't melt in their mouth one minute and be eating the most disgusting things ever the next, as being 'bin goblins.'

So, uh... goblins.

Swords:

real
comically oversized

Choose one.

Where was Yemisi when this outfit was assembled?

I predict that she will appear with an armload of 'going outside' clothes which Pintsize will reject en montage.

I fear that Yemisi is about to fade from the scene like Gabrielle, without narrative function or fan following.

I'd identify more with a (Roman) faun, more at home in the forests and meadows.

I like the humanoid version of Pintsize much better than the pervert version.  While I'd never wear something like that a part of me wishes I could.

Re: swords: I agree with all of the above: it's either comically oversized, or a real sword, but you can't have both. Well, I mean, you can have a sword shaped object, but you'll be getting tired of it pretty fast. I have a steel basket hilt, that, while not comically oversized, is rather a bit of of proportion. As a result it weighs about twice what it should, and that makes that it's not something you want to be wearing for any stretch of time.
Now, that's probably less of an issue for AI.

Re: poll: I'll take alverman, though they're not too mischievous when treated well.

Oddly enough, no I don't think we have. We've seen AIs with chassis that look like drones but not actual RC aircraft.

Would the pizza delivery drop-pods classify as drones?

Well, about the rombas, its definitely not a robot, but a drone. Willow holds what seems to be a remote control.

And I'm no expert - but this design doesnt look practical. A good part of the wind from the fans is clearly hitting the chassis, thus reducing the efficiency of the fans. When you look at current drone models of the net, they always carefully avoid doing exactly that, giving the fans a lot of room for its wind to go as unhindered as possible downward.

Comic!

Pintsize, do NOT fly drones indoors. Pretty sure it's a safety hazard, especially in a café with light fixtures and lots of breakables.

I wonder why Claire seemed so apprehensive about Willow? Surely she knows about Marten's tendency to pick up new friends like magnets pick up bits of metal?

They can have that stuff. Pintsize got his current chassis from a... questionable seller, so there's no telling what options he has installed. I wasn't asking a rhetorical question; I really don't know if he has a tongue.
