Title: WCDT - July 4th to July 8th, 2022 (strips #4821 to #4825)
Post by: Gyrre on 04 Jul 2022, 02:47
Could have done a 4th of July poll, but really not feeling it.

EDIT: Normally I wait until late Monday or Tuesday (occasionally Wednesday) to vote in my own polls, but I'm just going to lay my cards on the table this week.

Regarding today's strip - Funniest Outcome:

Marigold approaches Aurelia and the two have this entire detailed 'getting to know you' conversation, ultimately ending up becoming good friends. However, Marigold's anxiety is so strong that she can never 'come out' as Burger Oni or ask Aurelia if she's MommyMilkers. They go their separate way and the meeting in the evening is all the more awkward and confused as a result.

It could be funny, but they obviously already communicated their first name, so it's unlikely, I would say.

"...How statistically common is Aurelia as a lady's name?"
Interestingly, not as uncommon as it used to be: https://nameberry.com/babyname/aurelia (https://nameberry.com/babyname/aurelia)
Still, the odds are probably pretty high against you running into two Aurelias in one day...

Seems that way.

Surprised they didn't tell each other "I'll be wearing this and here's roughly what I look like".

Along those lines, I was wearing a Twitch t-shirt at the grocery store the other day and a guy came up and asked if I streamed. It wasn't because he recognized me, he just wanted to plug his own "stream that's going to take over the world when I start streaming!" I wasn't annoyed, though, that kind of enthusiasm and hustle was rather cute, so I followed. I did, however, keep it to myself that I'm Twitch partner, because I could sense the potential of lots of messages asking for advice or networking hookups, lol.

Seems unlikely as the next letter looks kinda like capital Y or maybe W.

Hm, where are you seeing that? I see one page where it kind of looks like there's the start of something after "free," but it's actually just the bottom of the g from "Bootleg" on the line above it.

Okay, for Marigold it might need a quarter dropping to get her attention.  Assuming kids these days still know what a physical "coin" is :{

But a penny would still work for Aurelia, yes?

Speaking of, how long will we be teased until Aurelia hears Marigold's name?

The white line to the right of "free" is actually from Claire's glasses (you can see it in other frames).

IMO, it's been clear for a while that Aurelia really enjoys the attention of her celebrity, while being insulated from most of the usual drawbacks by the nature of her preferred medium and presentation.
(And so far, everyone who has gotten close to her real identity has been incapacitated by her powerful mom vibes.)

Hey, confirmation!

It's going to be real awkward when Marigold shows up at her house later. Unless she wears a disguise!

...No, wait, Marigold, that's not a good idea, don't--

Look at 4820, panel 3, just left of Marigolds head.

From trying to do this, I noticed there are actually two comics nnumbered 4820. Anyway, assuming I have the right one, what you're seeing is, again, the bottom of the letter "g.'

Well spotted, I'm looking at the 4820 after 4819.  And it appears on review that you are correct.

In today's Panel 4, I think that Aurelia broke Marigold's heart. She honestly had thought that the cookie offer made her special!

New comic;
Well, she raised twins with a clear sibling rivalry, so it shouldn't be a surprise she's strong. Just look at Aurelia's forearm muscles in panel 4.
That's not a dig at Marigold. I'd wager the two of them weigh about the same, if not Aurelia being a bit heavier due to muscle mass.

[I'll point out that I'm 5'5" (165cm) and I weigh 225lbs (102kg).]

The footer texts have basically explained what this is about and a lot of people on the Subreddits agree: Aurelia has been carefully written to be a reflection of Jeph as he currently is in many ways: The music, the streaming and the social awkwardness. Basically, this arc is about how he himself would interact with his characters if he were in-universe.
