I thougt since there was a thread for favorite squaresoft games that id start one for favorite squaresoft characters. My favs are Rinoa, Garnet, Rikku and Yuna. Gotta say Mog was kinda cool too.
-
ive only played ffx and kingdom hearts, im working on getting into it all.
so yeah...i like auron
-
Not being one of the retro-FF-ers, I can't comment on the first 6. Otherwise, I'll say Auron, Irvine, Vincent, Garnet and Squall (moody bastard that he was). Rinoa was also very cute.
And Sephiroth was of course excellent.
-
Shadow.
So hardcore.
-
Er, favorite playable charecter or any charecter?
Shadow is awesome but I also liked Locke so that's a tie. I'm partial to the Turks in 7. What was the name of the gun slinger in 8, I remember playing for several hours before realizing the gun slinger was suppose to be a dude.
-
The FF8 guy is Irvine.
My favorite is either Sephiroth or Vincent.
One of them has a backstory that dosent make me laugh from the stupid mistakes in the plot.
The other has a reallly big katana and a theme song.
-
since it's entirely too hard to narrow it down to just a few from all the games, i'm gonna list some from individual games.
ff2 (4) - kain and fusoya were my favorite playable, and golbez was an awesome villain.
ff3 (6) - locke, shadow, and mog for playable. general leo for non-playable (oh i was so pissed off when he died).
ff7 - red XIII, vincent, and, of course, sephiroth as the coolest. villain. EVER.
ff9 - vivi, for ironically being the most human among the cast. i'm also partial to freya.
chrono trigger - frog and magus both have an extreme coolness factor.
-
Argh. I'll pick a villain and a hero. Kefka and Squall. Magus gets an honourable mention.
-
I really liked the protagonist who wasn't wracked with whiny self-doubt and angst!
What was his name again?
OH WAIT THERE AREN'T ANY
-
hehehe... funny, but true. and looking over my list, i don't see any main protagonists. that's probably why. ;)
-
Kefka, because he was really, REALLY, fucking nuts. I mean, he poisoned a town and burned another.
-
Tidus didnt have much self-doubt and angst. He was some straight-up california-surfin' dude without a care in the world except to DEFEAT SIN and play blitzball. Which is why every word out of his mouth had something to do with defeating sin or playing blitzball or TOTALLY RADICAL.
Aeris (no im not going to call her Aerith fuck off) was my favorite character probably because I loosely associated her with someone i knew in real life. I cried when she died, I did.
-
i have to agree, shadow is way hardcore. him and kefka that is!
also, i always thought that wedge and biggs were pretty cool, no matter which side they happended to be on!
-
Wedge and Biggs. By far the bestest!
-
what was the frog in chrono trigger called?
he was a wanker- i wish he had died
-
I think his name was... get this...
Frog.
-
the bastard.................
-
Kefka and Seifer will always be my favorite characters.
Seifer should've been the protagonist of FF8...bloody stupid game...
-
VIVI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dammit, i don't care what anyone says, IX was the best fucking game ever, and vivi was awesome. can't belive i'm the only one....
oh wait, AbsolootGeek said he liked him...
-
yeah! vivi rocks! he should have a game by himself. i'd sure as hell play it.
-
Sorry, but IX was far from the best. Tha rankings for FF go like this.
1: FFT
2: FF8
3: FF7
4: FFX
5: FFIX
6: all the other games.
-

Ahh, except when considering characters! The overly dry nature of FFT's story drops it a few rankings...
Character-wise, the rankings SHOULD be
6: FFT
5: FF8
4:FF9
3:FFX
2:FF7
1:FF6
That's right... 6 takes it. And Kefka ROCKS. Anyone who denies it denies themselves any kind of old-school cred.

...remember yo' ROOTS, boy!
-
Yah, charachter wise, FF6 Rules over all. But with downright play-againability, FFT crushes all resistance.
-
yeah, thats true. tactics hooked me for years. ff6's characters were so great. i loved shadow and locke!
-
Yah. Old-school FF had better charachters. But the new games are just so much more fun to play! So many more options!
But FF X2 should be launched into deep space and forgotten. Even though a more intellignet species might consider that an ac of war.
-
FFX2 DIDN'T HAPPEN. Just like SW Episode 1. By simply denying their existence (except to tell others about this concept), they no longer enchroach upon the franchises that we love and cherish!
~U
....the mind is a terrible force...
-
Frog and Magus from Chronno Trigger, without a doubt
-
sephiroth and cloud. easy.
any and all black mages and cactuars get honorable mentions.
-
Frog
frog!??!? what!?!? are you mentally retarded!!!??!
magus was a bit cool though i have to agree. i let him live everytime
-
OH WAIT THERE AREN'T ANY
It occurs to me that Chrono was incapable of whining, or he damn well might have. Seemed pretty manly, insofar as you can be, dressed like that.
-
As manly as any other Akira Toriyama charecter concept...oh...
-
Frog
frog!??!? what!?!? are you mentally retarded!!!??!
magus was a bit cool though i have to agree. i let him live everytime
blow me
Glenn was a Pimp ^_^
-
I will list, as that is what makes the kids cool these days.
FFI: The Monk, he looks freakin' sweet.
FFII: Not far enough to tell yet
Jump In the games I played.
FFVII: Yuffie, come on people
FFVIII: Selphie
FFIX: Vivi, hands down
FFX: Rikku
FFX-2: Payne
FFT: The Mime (as a class, the characters are iffy)
FFTA: Everyone but Monblanc, I hate that loser.
Final Fantasy Unlimited (The anime): Cholby, if that's how you spell it.
There... That's how I see it.
Jeph really was right, though. The heroes are kind of whiny, but it's the circumstance that makes them endearing.
-
1.) Squall
2.) Tidus
3.) Sora
4.) Riku
5.) Sephiroth
6.) Vincent
FF6 can go to hell, I hate it.
-
I know I said it before......but isn't it Square-Enix now?
But i don't play FF, so i dunno what character i like the most......whose that blonde one that has a bunch of pornos of her? I like her the best......oh yes.....she gets the job done....
-
If you don't play any FF games, why bother posting in this thread?
I'm not a superfluity Nazi, but consider your signal to noise ratio please.
-
I liked Tidus. Mainly because he dies at the end of FFX. There is no FFX-2 shut up.
-

well, there goees my reason to play ffx anymore. :-/
-
Aeris dies in FF7.
Oh, and Darth Vader is Lukes father.
Sometimes spoilers just stop being used for something, and there's nothing you can do about it.
-
FF 1- Monk
FF 2- Golbez
FF 3- Locke, Shadow, and Kefka (oldie but goodie bad guy)
FF 7- Cloud, Sephiroth
FF 9- Vivi (and all his kids, too)
FF10- Khimari (less is more)
FFT- Ramza
Xenosaga- KOSMOS and Jr. (don't you think Albedo is a cheap knockoff of Kefka? He tries so hard and fails so completely in the whole maniacal laugh and merging-with-superpower thing)
-

Actually, if you watch all the credits at the end of FFX, you may get a surprise.
Kefka was indeed a totally sweet maniac. However, his mania was put to shame by the utter awesome-osity of Sephiroth. You can't play an MMORPG these days without seeing at least 25 variations on his name. So perhaps he's a little too popular, but he is awesome.
Cloud was cool cuz of his sword, but other than that he might as well have been Crono, since he didn't really do anything. As far as oversized-sword wielders, Auron takes the big FF cake. Auron was not only sweet to use in-game, but he had some of the coolest lines. For an overdrive he used to say "Pray...NOW" Thats SWEET!
On a more personal note, all you guys know that you lost your girlfriend when Sephiroth puts his sword through Aeris. I played the game after all my friends did, and I brought up the fact that she died in class right after I played it (I was 16) and they all looked at me and said, "Hey man, I'd rather not talk about it. I'm still pretty upset." I have Aeris' theme on my computer, and I play it every once in a while when they're around and watch their faces. It gets em every time!
-
Sephiroth was lame.
Seriously.
Sure, he looks badass and has a neat sword, but his motivation was lame and his biggest moment was killing Aeris.
So what?
KEFKA BLEW UP THE GODDAMN WORLD!
Kefka > Sephiroth.
-
I really liked the protagonist who wasn't wracked with whiny self-doubt and angst!

OH WAIT THERE AREN'T ANY
Zidane. His name was Zidane.
Climbing up a ladder, he grabs the female protagonist's butt.
"Ooh... soft!"
"AAAAH!"
And that is why Zidane is the best FF hero ever.
-
Yeah, but he got some angst later on.
It didn't last that long, but still.
-
That guy from Vagrants Story, Cecil from FF4, X-Death or Bartz (also know as Butz) from FF5, Shadow from FF6, Zell from FF8, Vivi from FF9 and Auron or Lulu from FF10.
-
"Ooh... soft!"
"AAAAH!"

Anything to do with the Breasts, Ass, or other parts of FF, Jiperly has the image.....[/size]
-
Hotlinking doesn't seem to work...
As for Zidane's angst... he does angst a little bit, but that was just a ploy to get in Dagger's knickers, and it was just that one scene.

vincent owns all
-
Quina! I mean, come on. S/he was genderless as we could tell, couldn't speak english for shit and travelled with you for the sole purpose of FOOD. If thats not a great character I don't know what is.
seriously though, Locke is a great character and Zidane was definently a good character. The aforementioned "ooh, soft..." bit rules too.
-
Mog... kupo!
-
Here are my top five...
5. Garnet/Dagger (FF9)
4. Yuffie (FF7)
3. Setzer (FF6)
2. Locke (FF6)
1. Zidane (FF9)
I've played all Final Fantasies through 9 (excluding FFT). My favorite is 9, for the characters alone. The characters, and the banter between them, was brilliant. Just my two cents.
-
Final Fantasy isn't Square's only game...
Frankly, I am surprised nobody has mentioned any Xenogears characters.
My favorites were Citan and Id.
Out of other square games, it'd have to be Kefka. What a nutjob
-
Wait. Xenogears had characters?
-
Hmm...good point. I have been neglecting my other favorite Square game. Saga Frontier. Please...don't stone me.
That game was awesome. Sure, the graphics left something to be desired, but I really liked it. As far as favorite character, Gen, the drunken samurai.
Captain: "Nice kids you've got there."
Gen: "They're not mine."
Captain: "Oh."
Gen: "Where you keep the booze on this thing?"
Oh Gen, you wacky drunken samurai, you.
-
i was a big fan of the BIG CHOCOBO!
i also enjoyed locke....and kefka....and dude with the airship...the gambler guy whose name is ecaping me at the moment.
-
Meh. Thou shalt not speak ill of Xenogears. For it is good. Most of the characterization issues are just from a relatively lacklustre translation, but, you know, I'm sure Square was very tentative about bringing Xenogears over in the first place. I mean, it does have very religious themes, something that the American audience has trouble dealing with.
At any rate, Mog is sweet, the whole cast of FF6 is awesome (they somehow managed to develop all of those characters fairly well. Not great, but hey.) Vincent is cool, and so is Auron. Some of my favourite non-Square characters, though, would have to be the cast of Earthbound (Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo! Whee!), Viktor and Flik from the Suikoden series (I and II, at least, III AND IV NEVER HAPPENED) Other sweet RPG characters are slipping my mind for some reason.
-
Never played Xenogears so I had to go look at some screens. It seems like Square going "Hey, HEY look! We can do giant robots too, looooooove us." I jest. I thought you were talking about Xenosaga at first. Wasn't that by Namco? More robots, at least in the first one I vaguely remember.
The imp who does a couple of tutorials in FF3 at the begining had the best music in the game. I also like the bar/tavern theme that is ragtime-esque. And I am thinking the owner of the first airship is Setzer.
-
Chrono
Or Cactular (whatever his name is)
A GIANT CACTUS! HOW COOL IS THAT?
-
(http://guidesmedia.ign.com/guides/3847/images/cactuar.jpg)
Xenogears is actually Squaresoft saying "hey, lookee here, we can shove enough zombie-gameplay and quasireligious crap into a game to garner ignorance from the average gamer and disdain from the well-travelled gamer. Also, hey, crucified pink thing."
-
Digs, I now would love you if I went that way.
